Spurs face challenge of the Chiefs on South Africa return

The Vodacom Challenge has invited Tottenham back to South Africa this year after a four-year absence. The original idea had been to bring out a new team but Spurs had the enthusiasm to visit the country again.

Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs have both given foreign teams a good game and there will be no easy rides this time, either. The Chiefs are the defending champions of the Challenge while Orlando Pirates won when Spurs were out last under Glenn Hoddle.

That trip found Tottenham the talent of Mbulelo Mabizela who, unfortunately, did not adapt to his new life in the UK and his inability to break into the Spurs team led to him eventually serving a ban for drug abuse. He has since kicked his addiction and after a stint in Norway now plays for Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa under Gordon Igesund after winning the Norwegian League with Steffen Iversen in 2005.

The full Tottenham squad is making the trip, including Ledley King, Robbie Keane, Jermain Defoe, Aaron Lennon, Danny Murphy, Paul Robinson, Didier Zokora, Ahmed Hossam and Dimitar Berbatov.
