Is this the same goal king who managed 14 league goals in 2 seasons at Spurs?
by Mesmo on June 12, 2007
The very same 'Goal King Kanoute'... with a scintillating 14 goals in 60 appearances. Another case of the wonderful hindsight wisdom that we Spurs fans love to bore everyone with.
by London_Guy on June 12, 2007
The fact that Kanoute has cracked it in Spain does not mean he would have done so in the Premiership, he is lazy and it showed, that wont work in the Premiership and that showed too! As for Keane, he just signed a new contract and Defoe it seems turned down his chance to leave because he wants to be st Spurs. What a load of old tosh this article is, were you bored and could think of nothing to write?

I remember Fredi being a big hit for the first few months, and who knows maybe if he had been given time and patience he could have become a great!
Yes he was a little lazy, however i think scoring that amount of goals in Spain does go some way to show what he can do. I agree that Defoe is out of the door, which i think is a shame

Does anyone think he could have been a hit at Spurs, i do! Maybe still could!
by Waxy on June 12, 2007
I think all that needs to be said is Diego Forlan! The pace of the premiership, the intensity of the premiership and the defensive ability in the premiership is totally different to that of La Liga. I was glad to see the back of Kanoute from Spurs, as were West Ham when he left them...

Firstly BMJ was in charge in 2005 when Kanoute went to AFCON, not pleat. 2ndly Kanoute is on his day a very good striker, and can score for sun when going through a bad patch, but it was his inconsistency that was the most annoying. He would be great for a while then just dissapear for ages and it was like we were playing with 10. He never commanded the ball and dominated games like Berba. Yes he would be useful backup now but that is all he would be as Keano and Berba is the way forward. Finally i tihnk you will find that JD is better off staying with spurs and playing 40 times a season and competing for things than he is going to say fulham or the spammers where yes he will play every week, but is more likely to face a relegation battle than a battle for any honors. The only way JD will go is if we get a better or at least on Par replacement and he dropps to number 4 in the pecking order.

Well, Keane has just signed a new 5 year contract. Why not check the facts before rehashing the rumours of the last two summers. And why is this on newsnow? Beats me.
to Gally: You are incorrect, BMJ was not in charge when Kanoute went to the African Nations Cup (in 2004, not 2005 as your put it), it was Pleat!
by LondonGuy on June 12, 2007
I did not say Kanoute was not a good striker, he has proved his ability in Spain and good for him BUT he did not do so in the Premiership for the reasons I gave. I do not beliebe for one munite that Defoe will leave, stepping out of European football would not help his England aspirations right now and going to a so called top club would probably yield him less games than he plays for us. The only other club that may possibly benefit him might be Everton who are in a similar position to us right now and maybe need another striker.

I think that since Keane just signed a new contract and Defoe asked for a new deal, that youre writing an article for the sake of it. The answer, neither will leave. Next pointless question.... what colour net is the best behind goals, orange or white?
by Essexian76 on June 12, 2007
What exactly, Kanute is long gone, we scored 100 goals last term. Keane and possibly Defoe are happy, Berba's an asset so what is your point?
by Chris on June 12, 2007
Kanoute would have been much better then Rasiak last season and Mido this season. We still haven't properly replaced him.
by 111 oals on June 12, 2007
To be exact, Spurs scored 111 goals last season without Kaaoute. 'lazy' Mido is the 5 highest scorer. Robinson sored more goal than Walcott in the league.
by Ivor Biggen on June 12, 2007
Keane was praised and offered a new deal at Spurs now Defoe wants a new contract,Berbatov is happy to talk about a new deal as well. all this is because Spurs will sell them you see.. Please get this through your thick skulls just because you have nothing to write about Spurs will not be a selling club..unless your name is Murphy,Mido or Gardner
by 4thstriker on June 12, 2007
Do you think Kanoute (or any other 'top' striker would be happy to be 4th strikers and play a few low profiles games in a season?
by mike on June 12, 2007
Kanoute was proved to be a dud in the premiership look at his record for west ham and spurs. We done good business for a player who consistently disapointed. I complelty agree with Waxy!!!
by Peter on June 12, 2007
Defoe has a natural instinct in front of goal but needs to improve his team play. He needs to decide to lay off to a team mate rather than have a shot on goal all the time. This currently does not feature in his game play and that is the difference that separates him from Keane and Berbatov.
Blue, definately blue, and a few hanging baskets dangling form the park lane end would look particulary appealing dont you thni?
Does any one else hate the colour of our seats, after all they look tacky and are the wrong shade, more Millwall/Chelsea than our navy, and as for the logo's..well whose grandchild designed that way back when?

Ok, let me try to explain myself. All i was trying to say, unsuccesfully, was whether given the success of Fredi post Spurs, would he have done better if he was given more time. Everyone is quite right to point out just how many goals Spurs scored last season (111 is close but not correct)and the issue of Defoe and Keane seems to be resolving itself but i wouldn't be so sure that it has been decided who will leave. Once again apologies to anyone who didn't like this article.

If Kanoute had performed as well for Spurs as he has for Sevilla, he'd still be at the lane, it's as simple as that. I remember him for being a very lazy player, with glimpses of genius (40 - 50 yd piledrivers & even a goal by jumping against a keepers clearance come to mind). Unfortunately, although a player can get along very well like this in continental football, unless he performs very consistently, he will never be accepted by British fans - we demand too much, it's as simple as that. On a slightly side note, it really grates me by how many people post simply to complain about an article or its author. If you don't like it, don't read it. If you've read it and don't like it, don't waste your time commenting.
I persoanally liked Kanute and preferred him with Defoe up front, however his body language gave the impression he wasnt 'up for it' and definately wasnt the player he was after returning from the ACN. But with respect that was almost 3 seasons ago, and now the talk is about Bent, and that equally confusing as who really wants him and why would he want to come to us and get splinters sitting on the bench?
I agree that he looked like wasn't up for it. I think that Robbie Keane is vastly underrated, outside White Hart Lane i think he is often overlooked and is one of the most consistent goalscorers in the premiership. Defoe i guess is on his way, where to is another matter (don't worry it won't be the subject of another article)

Not much happening today is there? Lets write an article about an ok player who could have not been sold and continued to have been ok... Oh and lets debate whether Spurs should sell one of the 3 world class strikers they have... Yes let us in fact attempt to win anything with Just Berba and Keane... Defoe never plays anyway, nor did he score 18 goals last season. Sell him! now!!
