if i'm not wrong, giggsy was given the choice to play for england or wales and he chose loyalty to birth country... hargreaves on e other hand, was also given the choice of canada, germany or england and he chose england even though he was born in canada...

What a load of old crap - if we take your argument to the extreme then why bother with international football at all? I take it you would prefer some American-style All-starts matches instead of the World Cup? In fact, I'm not even sure why I'm bothering o write a reply to such a load of old tosh! And in answer to redsfan, Giggs couldn't have played for England - he had no English blood whatsoever, however who do you think Hargreaves represented at u15, u16, u17 and u19 level? Yes ... Wales! His mother is from Rhyl and before his head was turned by the English he wanted to play for ales.

fair play that article was crap. giggs choose to play for wales so that kinda ruins the article anyway. if only theirry henry had been born in england eh? utter tripe.

Fatuous nonsense.
by Bogle on June 14, 2007
Ever think that he didn't want to play for england as he's not english ? would a scot or irishman dream of wearing the 3 lions of england ? i think not, why any diferent for a welsh man who's proud to wear the colours of his country. don't be so nieve to think everybody wants to play for england !

I find your article deeply offensive and down right ignorant, the comments you have made about Wales, particularly your digression are borderline line racist. Its shocks me to think you are a professional sports writer and how the hell you have made a living out of writing complete an utter dribble and self opinionated crap is beyond me. If you went into any pub in Wales and spouted that tripe you would be singing another tune my friend. I will never buy any of the papers you have associated with ever again and will be forwarding your so called article to as many complaints groups and National organisations in Wales as possible.

bah get a sense of humour lads, if you really appreciate Giggs you will want the best for him and that's making an impact on world football. Even if you are welsh you cant deny his career was hurt by playing for them. The article was a lighthearted bit of fantasy so easy up
by ernie on June 14, 2007
Gave it was just a bit of writing for a laugh, try relaxing a bit. I'm sure you've made some anti-england comments at some point in your life for fun when the two nations met in football so stop being hypocritical
We want the best for Giggs BECAUSE he's WELSH you doughnut! If he were to play for England he would be English ergo we couldn't care less about him ... don't be so obtuse.
by Jamie H on June 14, 2007
your talking nonsense...he should not be allowed to play for england...hes welsh u muppet...complete twaddle u talk! i am from northern ireland and i know that george best would have rather won nothng for northern ireland than three world cups with england!
by Mr J on June 14, 2007
Why on earth would a proud Welshman want to play for England. Mr Smith you are a 1st class pratt. Any young Welsh lad would want to play for HIS country people like you make England the most hated national football side of all! Long may the 41 years of hurt continue because your muppets are never going to win anything again
i agree one hundred percent...long may it continue...7/9/05!!! 1-0!!! HES WELSH NOT ENGLISH

Maybe I'm about to comit herecy by saying this, but what the hell, I'm Swedish so... Maybe all you Britons, would win more Int'l glory if you joined forces and played with a UK national team? The top of the crop of all the english, welsh, scot and n. irish lads? Even the ancient greeks burried their hatchets every four years to compete friendly in the Olympics... and they we're all nude too! Anyways, I love the Premiership, your culture and passion for the game. Cheers, Chris
Christian - is that the English Premiershep, the Scottish Premiership, the Welsh Premiership (yes, there is one ...) - see, it's not so cut and dried is it?
Eusebio - I'm sorry if I wasn't precise enough, I meant the EPL, if you didn't already guessed it. But I watch the Old Firm and I keep an eye on the SPL too...

The journalist of this piece is obviously English! On paper at least England are clearly one of the great teams of the world. Giggs should be respected for the fact that he values patriotism and his national identity above cheap success. Does representing someone else's country just to win trophies not seem a little shallow to you Mr Smith?
by Chris Collins on June 14, 2007
Oh no, not this old chestnut! Typical lazy journalism. If Giggs wanted to be a winner then surely he'd have been better off being born Brazilian, Argentinian, German, Italian, French. Even Denmark and Greece could have provided some glory for him. Mr Phillip Smith it never happened- live with it.......

That's the downside about the internet. It gives every idiot a platform to write rubbish like this. Just plain offensive.
by Adam Jones on June 14, 2007

by robin johnson on June 14, 2007
once again the football seasons over waiting for the new one to begin so all the sports reporters having time on their hands cant be bothered to search out new and interesting stories come up with the i know let's write the one about Ryan Giggs he could have done this and could have done that if only he was born the other side of the bridge well as a sports writer? you know he wasn't and as a proud welshman played for his country Wales.probably before hom it was george best and next it will be gareth bale and after him the next great player born outside of england thank god i didn't live in manchester or buy the mirror or people because if this is the stories you find then i will stick with the papers i prefer to read
by Chris Hayes on June 14, 2007
So this is where Comical Ali ended up after the invasion of Iraq, typical pompous ignorant English attitude towards the Welsh, roll on the next championships so we can watch England fail abysmally again.
by rhys morgan on June 14, 2007
whoever let this be published should be shot, Ryan is proud to be welsh, it was plain to see when he playes his last game, why would anyone want to play for a country they wernt born in??
