He would have been a mug to do the West Ham sc*m, much better to come and join Martin Jol's revolution!
by Nick on June 15, 2007
No chance we would be in the championship and even if that were the case Bent would still be playing in that league anyway!
Why is it rubbish? Why the hell would he want to go to West Ham even if they were in the Premiership, he sure as hell wouldn't go to them in the Championship, what would be the point in moving from Charlton to West Ham if they were in the same division it would hardly help his England ambitions would it?
by DannyMackay on June 15, 2007
Bent seems to have shown a degree of class few modern footballers display. If he was not committed to west ham then he is right not to take their money. And if he is willing to accept less cash at a club he thinks is a better place to progress then thats quite remarkable given the money involved. So fair play to him - wherever he ends up.

Very real prospect that West Ham will be demoted to the Championship. What planet are you on ?
by Fred on June 15, 2007
If Darren Bent has any real ambition he'll join a proper club that's got a chance of winning something (ie not Spurs).
by Mark (author) on June 15, 2007
You are absoutely correct, why chase the cash if it isn't going to lead you in the right direction. You hit the nail on the head, i should have added that fact in the piece!

"very real prospect that West Ham United will be demoted to the Championship next week when the court of arbitration makes its long-awaited decision" The author does not seem to realise the the arbitration hearing is just that. They have NO power to relegate west hame next week. Some people including the author have failed to research this fact.

Get real WHU are not going into the Championship although all the other teams would like that. The Tevez deal was not illegal it was same as a loan deal just like ManU and Everton
by Dan Richardson on June 15, 2007
the reason i believe bent didnt join west ham is they are bound to get relegated next season and at the moment could still goi down due to the tevez deal. dont get me wrong bent would be good at spurs but we need another class striker the same as berbatov. yeah robbie keane is great and berbatov is great aswell buyt we need someone ezactly id not better the berbatov. spurs have the money and i feel they should spend big.
by Ivor Biggen on June 15, 2007
HAHAHAHA!!! Where will Arsenal get the money to sign him? they do not have a pot to piss in...Chelsea have Drogba,Shevchenko etc. they do not need him ,besides they are attracting bosman free signings nowadays with no sweat..cant see them parting with £17 million..and finally Liverpools transfer budget is only about £20 million and they must sell to buy,no wonder Bellamy is linked with anyone for £12 milllion ,Liverpool are trying to sell Bellamy,Kewell and alike so they can spend..Only Team that can afford Bent is Spurs.

Good player, but certainly not worth the £15-20 mill being quoted. SPURS DON`T BUY HIM!
by Graham on June 15, 2007
WestHam cannot be relegated by the hearing next week. Idiots that think they can know nothing about football. He might well have saved WHU a fortune, enough to get SWP and keep Teves, cheers Brenty
by Paul on June 15, 2007
Why would anyone, least of all West Ham pay £17m for Bent - yeah great 31 foals in 2 yrs. But where is he when it matters, 2 play offs against the Hammers and he went missing. The Ipswich fans couldnt wait to get rid of him. Top quality striker who couldnt keep his team up last year. Not worth £7m let alone £17M. Curbs & Eggy do us a favour - steer well clear let him go & under achieve somewhere else

It is an art to write speculative articles based on speculations and try to make it sound real. You have failed, very badly.
by Juan Pairon on June 15, 2007
The ignorance shown by Mark Apostrophe is mind blowing .The abitration hearing is to decide if the original one was carried out according to Premier league rules, and not to retrospetively change the judgement. If there was any scenario that led to a points deduction for West Ham does the writer not appreciate that the club - who have said nothing - would then mount a legal defence.Fact- The players have at no time been ineligable as they are registered to West Ham (as was Ben Foster at Watford). This was true even when Sheffield United beat West Ham 3-0 and Tevez played.
How many of you Spurs fans are busy renewing your season tickets on the back of being linked to every player in the world. Its the same every year, loads of players lined up for Spurs - most of the stories are just garbage made up to get you excited over the summer. Hold your breath guys, Berbatov wont be around much longer and then you will be back to the posion midget to lead your attack.
by Dan Horsman on June 15, 2007
Pretty obvious Bent is thinking of Spurs, West Ham getting relegated etc., but 17m is far too much money to spend on a striker who cannot be considered world class yet like Berbatov or even Keane. Spurs have had a habit in recent seasons of picking out gems for a fraction of the price the so-called big four are shelling out as well as mugs like Newcastle for example. When they sell players on they always make a profit (Carrick) and maintain an upward curve. The 17m should be used to continue the youth policy which has brought in the likes of Lennon and Taarabt for next to nothing

After reading "Ivors" comments it is clear that its not his brain he's referrring to
by Chappy on June 15, 2007
Is it coz he is black?
by Si on June 15, 2007
Surely Bent arriving at Spurs means JD is off. They're pretty much like for like ability wise but I guess the difference is that Bent will be up for it whereas JD is (understandably) disgruntled. He won't get in ahead of on form Keano and the mighty Berb though. Could be a lot of cash for a super sub. Maybe Charlton will take Mido?
by V Man on June 15, 2007
I'll argue against the comment all day, that bent has more to offer than Keane or Defoe?!! No way is he worth £17m!!! I'd rather have Mido!!! And I really can't see the Gunners being happy with Bent if they loose Henry! Who wrote this crap?!!
by sean on June 15, 2007
you really havv no ida at all have you. just stick to needlework pal
by madlondonmale on June 15, 2007
we might have no money as you would like to think, but who cares we will still finish above you! how much money do the spuds have to spend before you finish above us? you spend more money than us every season but still finish behind us.must be real hurt. w******
by Danny on June 15, 2007
17 mil for overrated bent is too much money anyway and its nice to see people are still writing misinformed garbage about the forthcoming arbitration! what a poor article!
