If European champions AC Milan fork out for all the players who they are supposed to be signing, they'll need to sell the San Siro (with Inter's permission, of course).

They continue to try to net either of the Barcelona stars Samuel Eto'o and Ronaldinho. Some reports suggest that Milan are willing to part with upwards of £70m. Club President Silvio Berlusconi has also stated that he is 80 per cent sure of former club favourite Andriy Shevchenko is returning to Milan from Chelsea. Reports also have Emerson about to move to Milan from Real Madrid. Rumours simply abound.

Milan are obsessed with trying to net a big name for their attack next season, but the extravagant outlay of money this would require seems unwise. Surely, £70m could be spent on a raft of good players that would add so much more to the club than one star player.

If I had the £70m I would start with the defence. I would buy one centre back and one left-back. There was a recent rumour that Fabio Cannavaro wanted to move to Milan. He would probably cost around £7m and would be a great addition despite his age as Milan have a history of success when relying on experience at the back.

Andrea Barzagli would be another good centre-back for Milan. He would probably cost a little more at £12m because of Palermo's reluctance to let him go and the competition for his signature. Per Mertesacker (£10m) would be my non-Italian option for centre-back. Other full-backs I would look at are Manuel Pasqual (£6m) from Fiorentina or Gianluca Zambrotta (£8m) at Barca.

In midfield Emerson would be a good signing. When Gennaro Gattuso left the pitch in the Champions League semi-final we really struggled despite Massimo Ambrosini returning to form. Emerson would add depth to an important role in Milan's formation. I'd also try to buy Riccardo Montolivo from Fiorentina or Alessandro Rosina form Torino. Both are playing for Italy in the European Under-21 tournament at the moment and both look like great prospects to compliment the more experienced heads in the squad.

In attack I would either look to bring up a junior like Willy Aubameyang or buy a solid youngster. Although Riccardo Olivera was disappointing and Alberto Gilardino didn't score as many as Milan would have liked, I would give them one more season to prove themselves, particularly Gilardino. With Ronaldo eligible for Champions League this season I think there will be less pressure on the other strikers.

After their Champions League success the core group still look strong and for a few years now Milan have shown Europe's top clubs that relying on experienced, proven players can bring great success even if they are in the tail end of their careers. They just need some good young talent to add depth and to ensure they have players coming through for the future and it will be a bright one.
