It seems that Jose Mourinho is keen on reuniting with Benni McCarthy - but Blackburn are claiming he is not for sale at any price. That's just  the kind of thing Roman Abramovich has become used to since his wallet became inextricably locked to the fortunes of Chelsea. But Mourinho, who coached the South African striker at Porto, insisted McCarthy is ''the kind of striker every coach wants - and I'm no exception.''

Darren Bent has become the hottest name on the rumour mill following his U-turn on a move to West Ham. He has been linked with just about every team in the Premiership - Spurs being the strongest candidates. Meanwhile, Zat Knight has been linked with a move to Spurs from Fulham - a switch that would help Martin Jol fill defensive holes that were evident last season and may help cover the gap that needs to be filled should Ledley King's injury problems continue.

Sunderland boss Roy Keane is making some interesting moves into the transfer market following his side's promotion to the Premiership. Names being linked are Chelsea’s Geremi and Manchester United’s striking prodigy Giuseppe Rossi, fresh from saving Parma from relegation from Serie A.

Portsmouth are looking to build on an excellent season with a audacious bid for Chelsea's Claude Makele, a move that may suit both parties well as Pompey look to push on into a possible UEFA Cup place next season.

The most unbelievable rumour has to be Juventus and Roma both lining up bids for Liverpool’s Craig Bellamy, which means one of two things. Either there is another Craig Bellamy somewhere on the planet who is worthy of these two giants of the game - or the volatile Welshman has a remarkably good agent!

Liverpool are, in turn, supposedly interested in Roma’s Brazilian Mancini, with a £10 million plus bid in the offing. One player said to be on his way out of Anfield is Finland defender Sami Hyypia, who is said to be on the verge of a move to Sam Allardyce's Newcastle.

Newcastle are understandably being linked with moves to capture Bolton’s prized possessions, with Jussi Jaaskelainen, Kevin Nolan and El-Hadji Diouf all being targeted by Big Sam.

With the end of the La Liga season, there are bound to be a wealth of rumours surrounding the Spanish league's big guns such as Fernando Torres and David Villa.

As the summer break continues, expect the rumours to develop and the pressure to become unbearable. So much so that a club will snap and find themselves frantically searching for the perfect buy.

Or, failing that, putting a bid in for Craig Bellamy.
