The Daily Mirror is causing more grief for Arsenal fans fresh from seeing Thierry flying into the sunset by suggesting that Real Madrid and Barcelona are chasing teenage sensation Cesc Fabegas. Hopefully for Gooners, this is only paper talk - but there’s no smoke without fire, unless of course the fire is started by piling up tabloids for kindling. My guess is this is just pure fabrication - 1/10 on Cesc leaving any time soon so  Arsenal fans should relax.

The latest, and most certainly not the last, instalment on the Wenger/Henry/Dein rumour axis comes from the Daily Mail. According to them, Arsene Wenger has demanded the return of David Dein before he puts pen to paper on a new four-year contract. No quotes whatsoever on this one, not even from a club spokesman, so essentially what we have here is a story that exists on in the mind of a journalist (not a good place to visit by the way). 0/10

Spurs midfielder Reto Ziegler is apparently not looking to return to White Hart Lane any time soon (tribalfootball.com) The Swiss has been at Sampdoria for the past season and it seems he prefers life in Serie A to reserve football in England, and you can hardly blame him for that. 10/10

Bolton are said to be lining up a £5m bid for Reading's Leroy Lita should lose to Nicolas Anelka to Arsenal (Daily Star). Personally I think the Trotters are about to enter an uncertain phase as they prepare for life without the charismatic figure of Sam Allardyce, which may limit their ability to attract top-class talent. Lita may not see the benefit of moving to Bolton as to me this doesn’t constitute a step up. Also,  Reading will not want to lose another player with potential as they did when Steve Sidwell saw out his contract and left for Chelsea. 4/10

Manchester City, who have figured heavily in various rumour-mills lately, are apparently going to trump Liverpool and sign Yossi Benayoun from West Ham for £4m (Daily Mirror). This, I’m afraid to say, will not happen and is another example of tabloid fantasy. Should the Israeli midfielder choose to leave West Ham, who it seems are desperate to keep hold of him, there would seem little reason to join a City side, who may have a new lease of life under Sven and Thaksin, but will in my opinion still struggle. 2/10

Man United young gun Giuseppe Rossi helped rescue Parma from relegation last season with nine goals in 19 games so it should come as no surprise that the Serie A side are apparently on the verge making a £6m bid for his services (The Times). Sir Alex would do well to keep hold of Rossi, who seems to have a bright future ahead of him. A move to Parma, however, I rate as an unlikely 2/10; however, with his old Parma coach Claudio Ranieri taking the Juventus post, I would bet on Rossi moving to Turin should he leave Old Trafford.

Celtic may lose hard-man headcase but surprisingly softly-spoken Thomas Gravesen to Besiktas (Daily Mail) There seems to be a rise in the number of top-level players fleeing to the Turkish league, with Roberto Carlos the latest big name player to make the move. Clearly the main incentive to move to last year’s Turkish runners-up would be financial, so hopefully Celtic have a few bob in the bank to keep hold of Gravesen. 6/10
