Has Arsene Wenger taken leave of his senses? Apparently he is about to make a £13m bid for vastly over-rated Obafemi Martins (Various), but why? If this is the player Arsenal sign to replace Thierry Henry, it would make me a very unhappy Gooner. I can understand Martins slipping down the Newcastle pecking order following the capture of Mark Viduka and Michael Owen's return from injury (which will probably end when he next stretches for a football), but how does this affect a club of Arsenal's stature? Surely this must be a joke. 2/10

The Times have the big-money rumour of the day; they suggest that Barcelona are lining up a bid for Chelsea's Frank Lampard. Apparently the bid would be for around £15m, which seems a little low in the current market. They also suggest that Deco may also be dangled under his former boss Jose Mourinho's nose (not literally - that would be near impssible, given Deco's weight gain!). This deal ranks as a 0/10 on the possibility scale. Given that Jose is staying at the Bridge, then I would expect all his big guns will also be staying put.

West Ham are attempting to persuade Carlos Tevez to stay at Upton Park by throwing money at the Argentinian. Hell, it just might work! Apparently he is being offered an obscene £115,000 a week (Daily Mail), an odd decision for a club reportedly toying with the idea of a wage cap. Maybe their cap is set at a million a week but surely this would somewhat diminish the purpose of a wage ceiling? 2/10 that this is true, but 8/10 that if offered Tevez remains at Upton Park

Former Leyton Orient player and recent England international (as an O's fan, I'm not bitter) Nicky Shorey is apparently flattered by the interest shown by West Ham - but is perfectly happy staying put at Reading (sportinglife.com). However, expect Nicky to be less sure of his future when Steve Coppell's side have the invariably traumatic second season in the Premiership and find themselves in the bottom three by the new year (along with West Ham perhaps?). It's 9/10 Shorey to not be a Reading player by the end of January 2008

Apparently the next 48 hours are going to busy ones for Spurs. The Daily Mirror are under the impression that Charlton are about to relent and sell Darren Bent for an initial lay-out of £13m and the moment that deal is done Jermain Defoe will be the subject of a £12m move to Liverpool. Given the long-running Bent saga, don't expect the loose ends to be tied anytime soon. Thierry Henry's move to Barcelona for just £16m is no doubt making Spurs think twice about Charlton's valuation and this alone would account for this long-drawn-out affair. 9/10 Bent to Spurs, 1/10 that this will happen in the next 48 hours, 3/10 Defoe to Liverpool.

A slow day in the Bolton Evening News offices is perhaps the reason for their speculative effort. They claim that Kevin Nolan may be on his way from Bolton to West Ham for the princely sum of £10m. Given West Ham's new-found wealth from their biscuit-magnate owner and their continued Premiership status, it is inevitable that they are being linked with all and sundry. Nolan is a talented player who is sure to make a big move in the next year or two but no offence to West Ham - or Bolton for that matter - I expect the top six will be keeping tabs on the Scouser. Nolan to West Ham 2/10.
