You ignorant fool - when did spurs fans ever say united paid over the odds for carrick. He was the fulcrom of our side and an extremely important part of our side. We were pleased to make such a profit (allowed us to but Berbatov and Zakora) but we always knew united got a top quality player.

If the price for a player only will rise in the future, whats smarter than buying young "stars" today, rather than wait to them cost twice as much in a couple of years! Spurs will also split the payment over 3 years! Wonder what Anderson and Ronaldo's frien cost...
by Dave on June 29, 2007
UTD never bought anybody then? What a stupid post. Don't give up your day job.
by alec Summers on June 29, 2007
this coming from a supporter of a team who spent 50 million in the market already on 3 unproven premiership players! even if liverpool pay 27 million for torres, it's still miles and miles behind what man u and chelsea have spent over the last several years
by Scotto on June 29, 2007
Hope you eat your words when torres shines at liverpool.. owen's a sellout and martins aint good enough.. torres young and world class striker..
by Chappy on June 29, 2007
Buy British or buy the best? What the hell is going on at Tottenham? 26.5 mil on Bale and Bent? Fark me, the muppets of the market return with avengence. I'd love to be proven wrong here but honestly, are these the guys to take us deep into the Champions League, or to even get us there? Love me Spurs but these moves make little sense. And where's the fuckin winger? What, no English wingers available so we don't buy one? Wake up Spurs, you guys are Tottering.
by daryl hubbard on June 29, 2007
mate you need to get your head out of the clouds carrick is a pile of w**k he is no way near as good as the price that the scum paid for him and even if he did stay with the yids they wud still be in the same position as they are now. Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Michael Owen have you just mensioned them because they have been link with man u. oh and talk about over paying hargreaves, nani, and anderson and again they are not proven in the prem
by Rana on June 29, 2007
Yeah your right about Bent being overpriced and so was Carrick, but thats football today if you want to buy English players. Overseas players are not always the answer i think he will offer more pound for pound than the likes of Djemba Djemba, Forlan, Taibi, Kleberson, Veron, Bellion ever did for the premiership. See even the best clubs and managers make mistakes, funny the things you forget when your bored !!

OK - Say Darren Bent is "over-priced" Henry went for £16 million...and how old is Henry? 30 years old - Darren Bent is 23 - became English top scorrer in the Premireship with a team that had a crap team. Darren will only become better especiall playing with the likes of Dimitar Berbatov upfront. I remember last season everyone was laughing about Spurs paying £10.9 million for Berbatov and what was funny was seeing everyones bids for him at the end of the season. Carrick is a class playe which was worth money, I wouldent say hes over-priced and I'm a Tottenham fan. The top 4 are just worried Tottenham are going to gate crash their little party and theres nothing they can do but like it. Even the "special one" said Tottenham will be the team to watch next season.

"Liverpool fans will learn this season what I've known for the last year - that not even a top-notch striker can make a difference if your mindset is to defend first." You really should have watch a couple of games with Liverpool before you start writing about them. The trouble Liverpool have had is that have created a lot of chances but lack a real edge to turn those chances into match-winning goals. Torres has a great chance of becoming the sharp edge they desperately need.
by paul s on June 29, 2007
Ahmed!! Defend first? there is not a team in the Premiership that plays higher up the pitch or a more pressurised pressing game than Liverpool. it's the basis of Rafa's whole philosophy both at Valencia and at Anfield. Owen better deal than Torres? i cant even bring myself to explain what an absurd comment that is. And as for paying 27mill for Torres, have you seen a deal done anywhere? where have you plucked that price from? well done on some beautiful fiction writing. The point here is that LFC have missed out on top players time and time again for the sake of a couple of million here and there and it has cost us more than what we saved by not finding the cash. You will find that if we buy Torres it will be a cash plus fringe player deal that secures us arguably the hottest young prospect in European Football. I only wish you knew what you were talking about before you put hand to keyboard.

players out contract like pizarro can choose their clubs...what a surprise they dont want to choose a lesser team if they can get a top one.. bent will have to score 25 goals just to retain his value..if pizarro scores 10, cfc can sell him on to anybody in spain fo about 5....
by Fitz on June 29, 2007
HAHAHA!!that really is laughable. How can you say Liverpool's mindset is to defend. Listen mate, I'm no liverpool fan, infact, I prefer United but to say that liverpool defend first it total bull. You obviously dont watch liverpool. I didnt witness a Liverpool game last season where the wernt totally in control from start to finnish apart from the last 20 minutes against barcelona t Anfield. Granted they keep possesion and knock it around the back four but how you can say thier priority is to defend i do not know! Get your facts straight son!
by Super-Mac on June 29, 2007
I think you got it just about spot on (even forgetting to mention the action taken by Man U). I really do agree with the part about Torres. I would say that Rafa could actually pick just any striker in the world, Torres, Eto´, even Henry and he will score 12-14 goals tops in the red shirt. And let's not forget that Torres hasn't really scored that many for the last few years. So he wont be the answer, at least not for next season. In fact there are two kind of players that always will force u to overpay: English players and fancy "superstars" like Torres and Sjevchenko. £16,5m for Bent is hilarious!
by WookieD on June 29, 2007
I really cannot be bothered to read the whole article. In answer to your first question. The money we're spending is a direct result of good business acumen, not a fat yanks wallet. That is all
by J on June 29, 2007
Buying the title??? erm.... Man Utd have bought at least 2 players that are not Premiership proven yet Nani and Anderson so don't even go there!!! £35million on 2 players well absurd that is!!! Go back in hiding mate, buying the title???
by Ol on June 29, 2007
£16.5m for Bent may seem alot to the skint Arsenal but at least we got the player we set out to get. We will see anyway because lets face it the days of Arsenal challeging for the title are long over - once Peado Wenger leaves taking his little boyfriend Cesc with him what kind of a team is left? - a shit one.
by Sam Devito on June 29, 2007
... 16.5 is also dependant on appearances and success, and so, if we do break top four and dazza does make full international in two or three years time 16.5 will seem a snip. we've bought cleverly over recent years (lennon for 1mill? daws for 4mill?) big mart has made two quality signings to take us up to the next level. kaboul to follow and possibly a left winger... we're looking at fourth at least. now shush.
by Super-Cack on June 29, 2007
Its alot to everyone you pikey dave. 16 M on bent is the work of a bunch of clueless lampshades finally realising the fact that howver much money you mugs spend you will always be overshadowed by at least 4 other london clubs. 16m? lol what a bunch of cnuts
by N7 Goon on June 29, 2007
only a swamp dweller could bit like that. "Are you fearing Spurs now and jealous with the shrewd way we have dealt in the market" £16m for Bent is to laugh about not fear you Dave
by Dr Yid on June 29, 2007
£16.5m on Bent hilarious... how much was Walcott? Need i say more, you just keep paying those debts for the soon to be Emigrates Stadium!
by Laughing Gooner on June 29, 2007
bent for £16m? lol
by Yid Tit on June 29, 2007
Walcott is just as unproven but with less cost and more talent. I think we know he came out on top. HOwever much you try and sugar coat it. Lol, you idiots, every single one of you plebs. 1961 oh dear
by OL on June 29, 2007
Walcott is the most overrated young player ever. he is a lightweight on the ball and the only thing going for him is his pace. unproven?? He is just that shit he is not even worth considering a run in the team. Walcott - £16m Lennon - £1m and he is far better.
by Joshua on June 29, 2007
Oh a fearful jealous Gooner. let me rub it in.... "I will always be a gunner for life" while looking like a little child a a candy store at Barcelona." Mugs, he had taken you guys for a ride and jump ship at the 1st sight of problem. btw, N7 Goon your mum is nothing great. A bit too loose....Tell her I'm not coming back for that price.
