Arsene's reluctance to confirm his appointment to the club at teh end of next season is the more prevalent issue. This effects both the clubs ability to bring in and develop new talent or even to hold onto it's existing talent. Without that commitment, the types of player that he might want to bring in will be reluctant to join. Thereis no doubting his influnce in helping younger players to join, especially now that David Dein has gone - another important part of the jigsaw in growing the team that has been conveniently forgotten about in this reportage. Theo Walcott must be wondering what's going on fro a start. Whilst gunners may feel they are due success, their inability to compete with the financial firepower of the obvious other top 3 clubs puts them at a distinct disadvantage. Suddenly the new stadium looks a lot more expnsive than the £270 million forked out to build it (in part against an 'anticipated income of ticket sales'. With Dien gone and Hill-wood backing himself into a corner re

The ship is sinking and the captain is the first to jump overboard! How nice! At least Titanis's Captain died with some dignity

If agree with your summary of Arsenal last season and of the post season, but you've not given any basis for your assertions that Arsenal will make a massive improvement next year. Flawed logic I think.

This is a well written article, transition is almost over. It was sad to see Henry go, however with him leaving gives the side better balance. This season Arsenal will come good, but only if Arsene puts pen to paper and commits his and Arsenals future.

Yet another excruciatingly dull article Mark full of bold comments that will no doubt materialise to being complete and utter bollocks. Sorry but is my calender on the wrong date because I could have sworn it isn't April's fools day! Arsenal to finish 2nd this season... sorry Mark but have you been sniffing glue?! I can't wait to see what you say about Spurs anyway.

LOL - isnt it funny how spurs fans always come on to arsenal articles? So sad - always more worried about what we are doing than themselves... poor fools...

Fair comments on last term and post season. However I think your prediction for the forthcoming season is way off. I agree that Arsenal will finish ahead of Spurs, but to say that you think Arsenal will be a top 2 side is bordering on dillusional. Man Utd were the best team by a distance last year and with the £50m of new signings already done and with probably a couple more comings and goings before August they are only going to be better this time round. Chelsea although not at their best last year and with quite alot of un-rest in the camp still have the best squad in the premiership. They will again be the team to beat his time round, especially if they get another couple of players on board, which is pretty much a certainty. As for Liverpool, they've certainly set their stall out with spending £26.5m on Torres. They have always been 3-4 players away from being able to have a real go at the title. If they manage to sign a couple more quality players they could well be in the reckoning this y

The last 2 seasons you finished 4th...not just last year. You can't blame either season on injury. Every team has injuries. Man U and Chelsea Hobbled to the finish line with no strikers and no defenders respectively. I am under no illusion, as a spurs fan, that we probably won't finish above you next year.... but i think it will be a much closer affair without Henry to save the day!
by deadwing5 on July 03, 2007
I agree with two thirds of the article, but the last bit ....well? It seems like your trying to convince yourself more than anything else that Arsenal are still in the big time.
by Stuart on July 03, 2007
You're more optimistic than Camel upstairs, his 'pre Henry-sale' banter has quietened down somewhat. Not doubt Arsenal will still be a force in English football, but challenging for the title? Liverpool have made bigger and better purchases, but you've seemingly already written them off altogether, and whilst I don't blame you for writing off Spurs' hopes (that is your task as an Arsenal fan, just as it is our task as Spurs fan to write off yours! ;)), I feel you're being a little premature. In the end, only time will tell - if you make a couple more decent signings, perhaps you'll be challenging for 3rd again, but then perhaps you'll be challenging for 5th, we shall see!

I couldnt agree more - yes we will miss the tricks of Titi and maybe his pace - but i think once we see the likes of RVP, Nik, Ade and now Dudu score a few i believe all will be positive. Also, we must not forget we have a young man with imense speed, probably faster that TH, the boss will develop him furth pre season and he will be stronger and more confident now he is not in his idols shadow good times and i am going to have a bet on us finishing top

All events in history are waves. When dissent and factions start leaking to the press it's an unhappy ship. These ships sink in the waves. Pushed to retain a place in the top 4.

Strange as it always seems that ARSEnal fans are on our sites! To say you'll be in the top two is delusional! You'll be lucky to get 4th spot. Liverpool are bringing in good talent ut the same can't be said for you guys. I mean, henry for this Croat that know one knows of!

C last season, D since and suddenly A for the future, based on what?????

Where do you Arsenal fans come from?! You must come from another planet! I like the way you think that this great youth team you have is much different to ours! We have heavily invested in the youth of Britan and we will start to reap our rewards. I agree Toure had a great season for you last season and Fabregas could be turning into a fantastic midfielder, but why oh why do you think that you could possibly be attaining 2nd or even fighting the top two?! I am quite realistic over Tottenhams chances however, I know it will be quite some feet to overthrow you into 4th position, as once again we will be fighting for all competitions and our whole squad may not be as "talented" as yours in depth. But I really do think that your time at the top is fast becoming the end! I'll be surprised if Arsene stays on after next season and if he goes either then or before then, you'll just be another club with a half empty stadium! Anyhow, i reckon it'll be out of Man U and Chelski for 1st and 2nd Liverpool 3rd and
>> OL - isnt it funny how spurs fans always come on to arsenal articles? So sad - always more worried about what we are doing than themselves... poor fools... << Oh please, let me write an article about Arsenal having had their day and how they'll struggle for a european place next season, and see how many of your fans will post. There's nothing banning fans of other teams posting on any article on Sportingo, and if you can't handle criticism of an article that seems to be fair poorly thought out and explained, I shouldn't bother posting them.

To Bear and deadwing i think your right that i may have not given enough of a reason for an upturn in form. I think i was trying to say that the group of youngsters that battled to put Arsenal in fourth are now a year more experienced and that along with more signings, such as the two already made could help them climb the table. To Olly, i am glad you would like to see what i have to say about Spurs. I should also point out i am not a supporter of a Premiership team so hopefully can avoid be hit with a 'bias' stick

Spuds - Please piss off - Your club is miles behind -you buy mediocre crap season after season - talk the big game yer in year out and STILL can't finish in the top four. So what if you do ? You still play in a shit heap of a stadium and have nothing better to do than read Asenal sites / articles and talk bolloxs with nothing to back it up. Win a Premiership this side of the next millenium and THEN come back and rub out noses in it. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN AND YOU KNOW IT

This is just a guess at what you want to happen! Adebayor is nothing short of a lanky embarrassment, closer to Wanchope (crap) than Henry (class - but an arrogant tosser). The new guy has never proved himself in a proper league, but still cost you £8m. RVP is a good player but really dependable or tooinjury prone?! Keep hoping for your sake, but I feel that if things start off bad and Wenger starts to regret not leaving for Spain himself, things could get very choppy at the Emirates. Spurs are up your backside as are a number of other clubs sensing the opportunity to overtake Arsenal. Face it and don't weep after another year of transition! You have had your time - now get out the way as midtable beckons. Enjoy meeting Leeds in a few years!

Agree that Arsenal are not 20 points worse than Utd or Chelsea but we do need to toughen up as group. How we start will be essential to how we fare this season. Looking back we had a poor start in game that we dominated which ended up becoming the trend through the entire season. I personally believe that Gallas, Clichy, Rosicky and Adabayor have begun to settle into their roles and would expect improvements with those guys. I'm worried that Lehman will begin to loose his powers but I'll keep my finger crosssed he doesn't do so till Fabianski gets settled. More of the same from Toure, Fab and Gilberto. But more importantly I expect some sort of improvements with Eboue, Helb, Walcott(all right sided)and Senderos. AS for our new signing, well if he scores more than Henry did last season he's gone a long way to replacinig him.
