In recent weeks, Tottenham have made some fundamental changes in the team which are important to the push for success. Martin Jol and Damien Comolli appear to be on a transfer rampage with the recent signings of Younes Kaboul, Darren Bent and Gareth Bale. With a strike force worth fearing next season - even more so than the last one now that we have Dimitar Berbatov, Bent, Robbie Keane and Jermain Defoe - I am sure we will be converting far more goals and will be contenders for Europe as well as the UEFA Cup.
Now that our defence has been somewhat bolstered, we need to fill the left-sided midfield void as we appear to be lacking in pace, thus contradicting our attacking, aggressive style of football known to many teams. Recently we have been linked to Chelsea duo Lasana Diarra and Shaun Wright-Phillips as the transfer merry-go-round continues.
I believe that we will overtake Arsenal next season; things are not so bright over there. With the departure of David Dein and Thierry Henry, the confidence of the team appears to have been shunted and the purchase of Eduardo Da Silva covers up the true lack of Arsenal's desire. Of course he is a good player and proven at his previous club, yet he will never fill the boots of Henry. I predicted Thierry's departure in one of my previous articles, and plenty of raving Arsenal fans commented on the unlikeliness of this ever happening. I invite more comment by stating that it will be Arsenal who fall down the chain this season.
Tottenham seem to be bringing in more foreign players and despite the lack of respect for Arsenal in previous years regarding this matter, we are now unable to complain about foreign players at the Lane. True, other clubs have secured the services of world-class talent with Liverpool signing Fernando Torres. Spurs are no longer a mid-table pushover. We have now established ourselves as contenders for the top spot, nothing is impossible.
Kaboul turned away interest from both Chelsea and Juventus and is considered as one of France's most promising defenders. I believe we have snapped up a decent player in the making who once again is destined for greatness - like Berbatov.

Well I believe you have to wait for another decade before Totteham really overtake Arsenal. Arsenal is coming at all front, and remember even their second team beat us in all cup competition. But I believe with various this season at least we can push for no 4 this season, but this time round should be Liverpool out of top 4 in my opinion.

interesting - however, anyone can go and spend spen spend, but i would rather see a couple of quality players join a club than many who are not proved, or have little potential.... I agree that the .....Spurs are getting better, but i still cant see them overtaking or joing the top four - not yet anyway.. but if Arsene stays, the RIGHT players will be bought, and for a lot lot less money

Many Spurs fans believe this to be true.......All Arsenal fans should test their faith by offering a bet over £50 on who finishes higher.....watch them back off before your very eyes!!!!!!

Arsenal's failure to finnish in the top four next year is obvious. They struggled towards the end of last season and all they have done now is swapped da Silva for Henry. Even the most ardent Arsenal fan will not be happy with that. The end of the season will see the departure of Wenger and probably some others along with him. The next decade will see Arsenal trying to recover, with little money available after trying to pay off for their new stadium and no Champions League Income. It really does not take a rocket scientist to work all this out, the writing is on the wall.

I don't quite understand how signing Da Silva shows Arsenal's lack of desire but signing Bent, who could quite feasibly be half the player for twice the money, is a signing that shows drive and ambition. Also are you suggesting Berbatov has achieved greatness already? He's very good but he's hardly reached 'greatness' after one season and 12 league goals in 33 starts (keeping in mind Robin van Persie scored 11 in 21 starts, I think it was). Incidentally, you focus too much on overcoming us, not breaking into the top 4. Your focus should be on breaking into the top 4 at all costs, not simply at Arsenal's expense. The sooner the Spurs culture focuses on doing as well as they possibly can instead of simply trying and desperately hoping to do better than Arsenal, then the better it will be for them. That said, I don't think you have a snowball's chance. Your real chance to get into the top 4 came just over a year ago and it didn't happen, I doubt such a good chance will turn up again any time soon. You

Over paying for a few OK players wont get Spurs into the top four....Arsenal have much, much, much more quality in midfield than spurs....and if Ada, Van Persie can stay fit the whole season, and with the arrival of Edurado, Arsenal have a good enough strike force, which will look much better if Theo can live up to the hype.....And i dont think you can compare the Spurs squad to Manchester United, CSKA London and Looserpool, the gulf is too big.....

Signing big name players is not Arsene Wengers objective. He could have signed famous players for £20m or more but instead he chooses a prospect to shine. Henry was little known when he joined. All Darren Bent has proved is that although he has known English football his whole career he can put away a decent amount of goals - but lets be honest, he's not going to score a total like Drogba. £16.5 million is an obscene amount of money and just shows that your club alone cannot attract CLASS.
As I was also saying your manager is just not good enough to take you into top 4 or on a cup run to, say, the FA Cup final. While Jol has done some great stuff along with Comolli in terms of team building, he made some incredibly questionable decisions during games last year and I just don't think he has the tactical nous to take you very far on a match to match basis. Finally, Spurs can talk about how they came 5th last year but it only happened on the last day. I mean hell, if Allardyce was still managing Bolton on the last day you might have come 6th, Reading almost came ahead of you for God's sake. It was a very tight pack from 5th to 8th or thereabouts. The fact is, with a lot of teams outside the top 4 managed decently and making some reasonable signings (think Villa, Newcastle etc) as well as the other UEFA Cup teams form last season there's not really much reason to think Spurs are lightyears ahead of this pack as they really seem to believe Keep on dreaming that dream though.

There's something that will always make me laugh: people who just speak to much. A bit like drogba... We've spent half the season without Henry (no to mention that our second best scorer RVP was also injuried for a big part of the season) ans we still managed to be 4th. Pitcure this: The team still manages to score without his 2 best strikers. Anyway, Henry was a great player. I heard some guy yesterday say that Henry was worth guy's like maradona or Zidane. Well the ony problem I have with Henry (and its the same in national team) is that he is incapable of scoring in the important moments (Champion league's final, world cup final) compared to a guy like Zidane (offers world cup to france with 2 goals, and a champion league to real madrid on a superb volley) And for the spurs well... Its like if Cagliari was telling AC Milan that they don't stand a chance. By the way, I just figured out that AC Milan won the champions league just after the departure of their best striker. They won with de desperate Gi

These days know one knows the players that play for the gooners. One year left on the managers contract what ever they say or suggest he will be gone at the end of the season. Bankers holding back the fees they get for their players it looks like another Leeds waiting to happen. Wenger will end up at Chelsea or in Spain before Christmas, both teams seem to have a lot of backroom troubles. I can remember those Leeds fans thinking their team would still be there at the end of the season.
They won with the desperate Gilardino, grand'pa Inzagi, and a poor guy coming from nowhere, Oliveira. Now I definitely agree that we are not the level of AC Milan, but who knows?

If you are comparing £16.5m on Darren Bent with £7.5m on Eduardo da Silva, you are right. Martin has paid £8.5m more for a striker. But in terms of quality, do you think 1 Darren Bent = 2 Eduardo da Silva? I doubt so. I think Charlton must be overjoyed when Spurs agreed to pay £16m for Darren Bent. I hope Martin is not BURNING the Spur's £16m. (I hope Martin proves me wrong). In short, spending more $$$ doesn't guarantee you to success. Did Chelsea manage to win the EPL last year after purchasing Shevchenko?

You Sp*rs fans are dreaming - my god! your more interested in what we are doing than your own club. I think that year on year sp*rs have spent more than arsenal. 16 mill for Darren Bent - better check Martin Yols bank account (bung or what) I guarantee you our unheard of number nine (according to the writer of this article)will do more damage to opposing defenders than your England "B" signing - DONT MAKE US LAUGH (let me show what i mean) Ian Wright left (your finished now) Nic Anelka left (your finished now) Mark Overmars (your finished now) Emmanuel Petite (your finished now) got the message - Arsenal will ALWAYS be Arsenal - From one happy Gooner!

Im a spurs fan and i cant understand y were all saying this! arsenal played most of last year without henry anyway and although they dont have the quality up front last year and think were all being 2 quick in counting them out! honestly think were still gona struggle 2 pip them to 4th but it is possible. new signings definitely better 4 the team but cant say its enough yet! need a good left winger and a better midfielder than jenas if were really gona compete. every team in the top 4 has someone brilliant in midfield. liverpool have mascherano and gerrard, united have carrick and scholes, chelsea have lampard and essien/ballack, arsenal have fabregas and gilberto silva. i think if we get rid of jenas and bring in someone like kevin nolan, we could complete the transformation into a top 4 club or at least make it top 5 in england and we can trade off every season in the top 5!

It's quite amazing to see how many people who have no knowledge watsovere why arsenal sold Henry. Wenger wanted to see Vieira - so he sold him. He wanted so sell Henry - so he sold him. Both players were sold becuse Wenger wanted to improve arsenal. Henry has NOT been playing up to his standards the last 2 seasons. Henry has shown not be a very good leader/captain, he has mot been top motivated to play for arsenal, so Wenger did the right thing. Probably the most important reason for Spurs not vertaking arsenal is that Martin J, is not a very good manager. He is light yeards away from Wenger's class.

I can honestly say Spurs are a much better team than Arsenal. However, without even a ball being kicked yet, it's maybe premature to say who finishes ahead of who though if Everton can finish 4th then so can Spurs. There's a story on Sky saying Real Madrid are after Fabregas -if he goes then things could get really interesting.
That's what we call the french touch, and Wenger has it for sure!
quote : if Everton can finish 4th then so can Spurs Yeah no problem! Next year top four will be Everton, spurs, Shefield United, and lets say... wigan?
