As the new recruits trickle into Anfield, it’s exciting times as Rafa Benitez finally gets his way and and is granted a kitty to strengthen his squad. His patience has been rewarded with the capture of Fernando Torres, Yossi Benayoun and most likely Ryan Babel. It is important to note that the “plan of action” continuously spoken about by George Gillett and Tom Hicks is beginning to be understood and its implementation shows that the American duo trust in Rafa completely.Phase one – Tying core players to the club - Completed: The likes of Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher, Xabi Alonso, Pepe Reina and Mohamed Sissoko have all secured new and improved long-term contracts with the club, and will form the nucleus of the team for years to come. It must be comforting to Benitez to have them commit their futures to Liverpool and they will remain his key players regardless of any new faces coming in. Phase Two - Bringing Players in - Currently in Process: Having secured the big-name signing of Torres for a club-record fee, most will agree with Gerrard that it is undoubtedly Liverpool's boldest sign of intent in decades. Not having someone to finish the smooth build-up play has been a major cause for concern at Anfield for many a season. Having found a replacement for Luis Garcia in Benayoun, and with the imminent arrival of promising Dutch forward Babel, Liverpool are taking strides in the right direction. Anfield fans will have the next Thierry Henry in their starting line-up and there's nothing they wouldn’t do to see the charismatic Ricardo Quaresma don the Red of Liverpool. The talented winger has been linked with a big-money move to Merseyside and would definitely be an instant Kop favourite were he to sign for the Reds. 'Benitez is set to break the Premiership duck for the Reds, maybe not this coming season, but definitely in seasons ahead'Phase Three – Build for the Future – Constantly Developing: This is an ambiguous phase, and for good reason. 1) Building a stadium, with a bigger capacity, close to double the size of Anfield’s capacity, and bigger than Old Trafford, seems to be in the pipeline, and it is now a realisation that a bigger a crowd will mean more noise, more motivation for the players, more feet in, and inevitably more money for sustainable development. One can already contemplate a cauldron of noise, and if the current Kop is anything to go by, imagine double the noise rocking the New Anfield to its core. Good things come to those that wait, and Liverpool fans have been waiting a long time. 2) Building or filling up the talent pool. Players from all over the globe are being snapped up by Liverpool scouts and it’s plain to see that this is another phase of the Rafalution at Anfield as Benitez looks to the future.

Let's wait and see, I have waited this long and been disappointed every year. I am not going to show other clubs such as ManU a lack of respect and claim we will push this year, we have no right to and they have strenghtened themselves. Tevez in particular is a great buy. The only thing United fans should worry about is a lot of their average players performed above their station last year and if Giggs & Scholes do not have another phoenix from the flames season they could be found wanting. However, at this point I'm sure Ferguson knows what he is at. I would love to see Quaresma arrive, because we have talked of signing an out-and-out winger and we haven't. Babel looks very exciting, watched him in the U21's when I thought he was going to Arsenal and was impressed. Benayoun a direct replacement for Luis and Torres speaks for himself. Let's wait and see, Im expect us to be closer this yeat but if we start slowly we're out of it before October yet again and it's a long season then knowing you aren't going to

After the fresh acquisition of Babel and Benayoun I feel we`ll edge closer to the premiership summit. However, we have no world-class out and out winger. Simao or Quaresma fits the bill. Furthermore, if we`re to launch a genuine title challenge we should bring in an orthodox left back (Heinze), a classy right back (Miguel/Srna rather than Alves, the former duo both cheaper and tactically/defensively stronger than the latter) and a centre back (Kompany/Mexes/Chiellini). Such reinforcements are essential if we`re to break the top two`s stranglehold on the premiership crown. I believe the club have played it`s hand brilliantly over the past weeks and I think the management have already lined up several other players for a move to Anfield. Expect more signings to happen soon.

I just can not understand why very few Liverpool fans are bullish about their teams prospects this season. This is the first time that Rafa's going to get the team he wants. In the last 3 seasons, we have reached the UCL final twice. Now we have a good team on our hands. Kuyt is into his 2nd season, after scoring 12 in his first. Yossi is coming from an EPL team anyway. Torres is way too talented to need time to adjust to a new environment. Mascherano was awesome in his first season. This is easily a team that will strike fear into the hearts of the oppostion. Doubters can quietly sit and watch..anyway, that is all they will be capable of doing this coming season.
You cannot understand why we are bullish? I sincerely hope you are joking. Would 17 years without a league title and numerous false dawns within that period not give you a slight hint? We have made some notable additions but we need to start well and we have not the past few seasons, that is why we are bullish and if you can't understand that you must be one of these over stimulated people that celebrates each game as a title win without seeing the bigger picture. Why are we bullish indeed, your award for dumbest question this summer is in the mail.

"Torres is way too talented to need time to settle in to the premiership". From personal experience i wouldnt believe that. Look at shevchenko and ballack. It is a widely known fact that foriegn players need time to settle in....at least 6 months. Even tevez and mascherano needed that much and they are very talented players. Also Liverpool are bound to be pessimistic and wilst Rafa is at the club I dont think they will stand a chance of winning the Premiership. the media and his players continue to promote him as a good manager however it is usually clear in matches that his tactics are awful and his players usually pull him out of a mess. Gerrard? Probably one of the best players to go without winning the league.

Shane Robinson Bullish means talking up your chances, not talking them down. So what Renju is saying is why Liverpool fans aren't confident. But I agree with you we have had so many false dawns (in the league) that we have become wary. If we don't start strongly and I mean beat Villa and Chelsea in the first two games then we are in trouble. I would like to see 8 wins out of the first 10 games or better. Fingers crossed.

Too many comparisons are drawn between houllier and rafa, the dodgy acquisitions of diouf and salif diao in one fateful summer led to Houlliers downfall. Has Benitez gone out and bought similar with yossi and babel? Houllier raved about a certain Cheryou as the next zinedine zidane and now we have the new Henry. Only time will tell whether 11.5m on a virtual unknown talent will work. I just hope that these players are not how rafa will be judged in years to come if they flop. Carra gold stressed the importance of spending wisely and these signings will make or break Rafa.

You're comments are simply ridiculous, if any team is pessimistic it's Chelsea and Benitez' tactics have got him to 2 CL finals in 3 years with the likes of Traore and if any manager is rescused by his vastly expensive players it's overated Moronho

keep dreaming chelski man united and arsenal will finish above you , i think benitezs previous signings show that he was alright choosing players for la liga but not england

The next Henry eh? That must be why a whole host of clubs are after him, Queresma and instant hit? Well he didn't make it at Barce so a step down to Porto and Liverpool are his options... It takes years of building and spending to win the title, (well a year if you have unlimited money but that's another story) You'll have to learn how to keep with the top of the league from day one before you can challenge and I don't think this season will be the year Liverpool end their 17 year wait, maybe a season or two after they'll be finishing 1st or 2nd. This season I think it'll be a United/Chelsea affair again with Arsenal battling for 4th spot and Liverpool getting 3rd. Arsenal have lost one of the best players in the world and replaced him with no one of any credibility so maybe a good few years before they're winning the EPL again.
