Arsenal fans do not fear - apparently there is light at the end of the post-Henry tunnel in the shape of Argentinian striker Rodrigo Palacio, who is about to be the subject of a club record £15m bid (The Sun). Apparently Arsene Wenger sees the 25-year old Boca Juniors hitman as an ideal replacement for the French legend.

Palacio has a pretty strong strike record but this comes in the Argentinian league and therefore it's hard to judge his value and worth. However, Arsene generally has a good record when it comes to new faces, with some notable exceptions that I am sure will be brought up. Palacio to join the Gunners - YEA/NAY; Palacio to fit into Thierry’s shoes - NAY (but then, who could?)

Chelsea are still very keen on Brazilian full-back Daniel Alves, possibly even more so after his cameo performance after coming on as sub helped Brazil destroy Argentina in the Copa America final. Apparently Roman and Jose are mulling over the £20m price tag imposed by Sevilla (The Guardian). On his recent form for both club and country, one would feel that the valuation is quite accurate and that Chelsea would do well to pick up a player on the top of his game.

No disrespect to Sevilla, who over the past two seasons have performed heroically in both La Liga and Europe, but the 24-year old with the good touch will almost certainly be looking for a bigger home. Chelsea to cough up the cash and pick up Alves - YEA.

The Guardian are also reporting, not the first journalists to do so, that Jermain Defoe is apparently very keen to stay at White Hart Lane and fight for his Spurs place instead of moving to Aston Villa, who appear to be the only club to have shown real interest in the prolific striker. If I were Martin Jol I would note Defoe’s desperation to battle against the other star forwards and be pleased that the former West Ham man is making such strong noises about wishing to remain in north London. Defoe to stay as part of a four-man strike force that any Premiership side would be happy with - YEA.

Pint-sized Chelsea midfielder Lassana Diarra is about to become the subject of a bidding war following his apparent decision not to sign a new three-year contract (The Mirror). This would mean that in a year he could leave on a Bosman (whatever happened to that guy?). Liverpool and Arsenal are said to be monitoring the situation, but expect Jose to rather turn in his grave (if he was dead, that is!) than let Diarra leave before he has spent a season in the fourth XI as a unused sub.

The French international managed ably as defensive understudy in crucial games at the tail end of last season and could definitely be of worth to any side looking to hand Chelsea some cash in the next month or so before the window snaps shut. Diarra to leave the Bridge? Well, if he has indeed chosen to snub a new contract, then it seems inevitable. Liverpool or Arsenal? Choices, choices choices - what do YOU think? Who would YOU choose, it's too tough for me to call on this one.

The much-anticipated departure of Curtis Davies from The Hawthorns seems to be gathering pace as he has now been relieved of the captaincy following his decision to remain on the transfer-list (tribalfootball.com). West Brom boss Tony Mowbray said: "Curtis won't be wearing the armband but he will hopefully still be playing for us." Which is, frankly, wishful thinking. An £8m tag is believed to be attached to the highly-rated centre back, for whom Spurs are apparently favourites, though Arsenal and Manchester City are also tracking the situation. Davies to leave the Baggies is a definite YEA, but where to? I'd say the Gunners look the most likely side, but that's only if Wenger is indeed interested in the 22-year old.

The Daily Mail is claiming that Real Madrid are to attempt again to lure Gabriel Heinze away from Old Trafford, although they may want to give it a day or two as he is probably in some downtown bar in Caracas crying into his beer following  Argentina's 3-0 Copa America demolition. Man United boss Sir Alex has put the kibosh on the Liverpool move that was in the offing a few weeks back - but may feel less inclined to keep Real from taking his second-choice full-back away. Heinze to be nursing a bruised ego and opting for a move to Real - YEA

Sunderland are apparently lining up a bid for Celtic’s Guinea international centre-back Bobo Balde (Daily Mail). Roy Keane could probably do with some extra experience at the back to go with the young talent that is coming through at the Stadium of Light. The Marseille-born defender has become something of a cult figure at Parkhead and has amassed an impressive collection of medals and appearances. He may find himself ready for a new challenge and Gordon Strachan may feel the same way. The Black Cats will be wary of Balde's recent injury problems but I feel that he would still be a good investment. Balde to Sunderland - YEA.
