There is definitely something up at Chelsea. First off, they haven't exactly splashed the cash this season (Blues fans will find that they are damned if they do and damned if they don't with regards to spending lavishly). Then we have Frank Lampard still stalling on a new contract and now star striker Didier Drogba has dropped a clanger by stating that he could leave Stamford Bridge (The Sun).

Now that’s all Jose needs! Didier may have been amiss in his first season in West London but last term he was on fire (not literally), knocking in an incredible 33 goals in 54 starts for the Blues (he even found time to still be labelled the worst diver in the country). I would be shocked if this was little more than a cry for help and I am sure that once the Ivorian hitman is shown just how needed he is, then he will soon be content and smashing them in, as well as diving all over the place. Drogba to be a Blue next season - YEA.

It also appears that contract talks with Lampard, John Terry and Arjen Robben are not as pressing a matter as you would think and various sources claim that they are in no rush to sign them up on new deals. If that’s the case, then the people who run Stamford Bridge must be extremely calm individuals, because if I was a Chelsea fan I would be deeply concerned about the futures of two of the most important players at the club.

Robben, it seems, is already more or less an ex-Chelsea player. However, I am sure that captain Terry and goal-scoring midfielder Lampard (many strikers would be more than happy with a dozen-plus goals for four consecutive seasons) will both put pen to paper and this latest 'leak' may be designed to show the pair that the club will not be held to ransom. But in effect they will be! Terry and Lampard to continue to be part of Jose's spine (not literally) - YEA.

Meanwhile, Spurs are reportedly on the verge of clinching the signature of Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips for £12m (Daily Mirror). SWP appeared to be turning the corner at the Bridge and he figured more frequently in Mourinho's plans towards the end of the last campaign, as I am sure Spurs fans will recall from that fine finish of his in the FA Cup quarter-final replay.

Maybe Shaun has had enough, though, and is keen to get regular first-team action. This is a tight one to call and I actually think that £12m is pretty cheap considering he was beginning to get back in form and also given that he cost Chelsea £21m in the first place. It would prove quite a coup for Spurs and I think it could well happen. SWP to Spurs YEA, but I could be wrong!

It has also been reported by a number of sources that Arsene Wenger sees SWP as a potential Arsenal player. Whether these sources are reliable or not, I see that he could also do a good job for Arsenal. He is, after all, a very gifted player who in the right environment could become an England star. SWP to Arsenal could also be a YEA (yes, I am sitting well and truly on the fence for this one - you can fight amongst yourselves in north London)

The Independent claim that Bulgarian winger Martin Petrov is top of the Spurs shopping list. Petrov was a target for many top sides before he was picked up by Athletico Madrid two seasons ago. Personally I don't think he is someone that Martin Jol would pick up now, firstly he missed a great deal of last season due to injury and secondly, at 28, I don't see him as being that much of a hot prospect and certainly less so than when he left Wolfsburg. BMJ to pick up Petrov - NAY.

Juventus and Italy's latest 'next big thing' Giorgio Chiellini is apparently about to become the subject of a £5m bid from Rafa Benitez's Liverpool (Tuttosport). Chiellini, 22, helped guide Juve back into Serie A and has already become something of a fixture in the national side despite his tender years and the wealth of competition for places in the World Cup winners' line-up.

 Giorgio is a left-back/midfielder in a similar vein to John Arne Riise and would be a wise investment. Juve are said to be holding out for an increased bid, which, given Liverpool's riches at present, shouldn't be a problem. Having seen him in the recent Under-21 European Championships I couldn't recommend him highly enough. Go for it Rafa - YEA!

Manchester City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson is reportedly keen to land Inter and Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Daily Mirror). Now this is a no-brainer if ever I saw one. Off course, the Eastlands outfit would be keen to land one of the best and biggest strikers on the planet - who wouldn't be keen? Do they have a chance of snaring him? Not unless they employ an crack team of hypnotists, they don't!

I know Sven  is Swedish too, but that doesn't really hold much sway in the matter. No offence to City, who are definitely on the up. I would be as indignant if West Ham, Newcastle and just about any other Premiership club below the top six were connected in such a manner. But come on, from Serie A champions and Champions League football to form a strike pairing with Paul Dickov! If this happens, and it won't, then the Premier League will have to open a whole new inquiry into the use of hypnosis in football (maybe David Icke could front the thing). Zlatan to go to City - NAY!!!

City's fight for Roque Santa Cruz from Bayern Munich seems a far better fit. Apparently West Ham are also fighting for the Paraguyan, whose build-up play is far more impressive than his goal-scoring ratio. Santa Cruz to opt for City - YEA.

ABRIDGED:  Ludovic Giuly to Man City (Daily Mirror) - NAY; Lomano Lua Lua to West Ham (The Times) - YEA;
Andy Cole to Hull (Daily Mirror) - NAY.
