The iceman cometh! Eidur Gudjohnsen is apparently looking at properties in the Manchester area and this has led to speculation that he is about to join either Manchester City or Manchester United (tribalfootball.com).

At 28 years of age the striker still has a good few seasons in the locker and given his 100-plus goals in the English leagues he is clearly capable of doing a job in the Premiership. I think, however, he might prefer the challenge under Sven’s tutelage where you would think he would be guaranteed a starting place, something he wasn’t securing at Barcelona and would no doubt continue to do at Old Trafford.

We’ve heard these type of rumours before, where a player is spotted in a geographical area and therefore must be about to make the move permanent, but if there is a basis to this rumour then I give Eidur to City a YEA.

'it makes you wonder if there would be a better centre back pairing in the world than John Terry and Cannavaro'

Martin Petrov’s much speculated move from Atletico Madrid to Spurs may be about to be hijacked by Sven’s Manchester City (they are very busy at present). The winger is apparently about to be the subject of an £8m bid from the Eastlands (Sunday Mirror) outfit, a fee that Martin Jol will no doubt be able to match. The question therefore is: Where would he rather go? While there is no doubt that City are moving in the right direction and that with Sven on board, as well as being backed financially by the new Thai chairman, it seems more likely he would plump for Spurs who are very much where City would be aiming to be in a few years time. Petrov to go to Spurs - YEA, although I do feel he is a tad over-rated.

Sammy Lee has shown admirable qualities as he has apparently stated he would not block any move to a Champions League side for striker Nicolas Anelka (Sportinglife.com). The newly installed Bolton boss and Anfield legend has stated: "If one of the top four in England, or a Champions League club in another country, showed an interest in him, and he wanted to go, it would be remiss of me to stand in his way."

Apparently this announcement has sounded the wake-up call for his former employers (what seems an age ago) Arsenal who would probably welcome another striker, even though they have some tremendous talent in the position. Anelka’s experience could prove invaluable. Should Arsene Wenger be willing to forget the past and put in a bid for the Frenchman (Arsene likes fellow countrymen as we all know) then I am sure Nicolas wouldn’t think twice. Just don’t let his agent brothers get involved this time. Anelka to launch a second coming at the Emirates YEA

The Sunday Mirror however feel that Anelka’s Champions League dream could be handed to him by German side Werder Bremen, but surely given the choice between Bremen and Arsenal, although no doubting Werder’s attractive and attacking style, he would no doubt opt for North London

Real Madrid defender Fabio Cannavaro has snubbed the chance to join Chelsea (The Daily Star on Sunday) The phenomenally talented centre back has apparently shown little interest in Stamford Bridge and new Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster has echoed these sentiments as has Fabio’s agent who said: "Fabio is in Madrid where he has adapted very well." Fedele added: "They have won a championship and hence I don't think there is a possibility he will leave Madrid. Fabio's wish is to win the Champions League and the only team that can let him do that is Real Madrid." Those are the kind of words that will no doubt anger Jose and his boys, but it makes you wonder if there would be a better centre back pairing in the world than John Terry and Cannavaro. I would say NAY.

Scott Carson is apparently resigned to the fact that his footballing future may lie away from Liverpool (News of the World). The 21-year-old England squad member spent last season trying valiantly to save Charlton from the drop, a task that even he could not succeed in. He may also have learned from Chris Kirkland’s similar experience of playing second or even third fiddle at Anfield. Kirkland was forced to seek his first team football at Wigan and it seems that Pepe Reina is Rafa’s favourite. Therefore a quality keeper like Carson may have to leave sooner rather than later. Carson to force his way past the Spaniard between the sticks NAY.
