Fenerbahce's midfield ace Stephen Appiah will apparently snub a move to West Ham as he is holding out for a dream switch to Arsenal (News of the World). Whilst some would think that Arsenal are pretty much sorted in the role that the excellent Appiah would normally fill, I am sure they would make an exception and bring in the Ghanaian.

He is the kind of fast-moving, quick-thinking ball-winner and slick distributor that Arsene Wenger loves. He has far more experience than his years would indicate, has played at the highest level with Juventus and was breathtaking in the World Cup last summer. Is Appiah too good a prospect to pass up? I think Arsene would love to have him in his squad so I say YEA.

It is fair to say that Arsenal fans never really got to see what all the fuss was about with Julio Baptista. But for a few moments of genius in Carling Cup matches the Brazilian was pretty much a flop. The Beast did, however, get back to form in the Copa America where he hit the heights with a splendid finish as his side annihilated Argentina in the final.

Now it appears that Newcastle are keen to bag the 25-year-old from Sao Paulo (Sunday Mirror). A fee in the region of £6m has been mooted, which seems pretty cheap in today’s market. I am sure that the ‘Tank’ (another nickname) would be keen to remain in the Premiership and Newcastle are a big enough club to attract his interest, especially given the added bonus of working for inspirational manager Sam Allardyce (whose nickname ‘Big’ may soon be adopted by Julio). The Brazilian to become a member of the Toon army - YEA.

Spurs striker Jermain Defoe has seemingly been connected with just about every team in the Premiership this summer. Iin fact there were times when it appeared he had become the most cited player in transfer rumour circles. Now it seems enough it enough and he will be sticking it out at White Hart Lane along with the other top-quality hitmen (tribalfootball.com).

Tottenham's striking headache is the kind of problem Premiership teams would dream of. Imagine having four international quality strikers, all of whom are consistent goalscorers at the highest level. Given Spurs' desire to compete with the big boys and across four competitions, i am sure that the goals will spread around. Defoe to stay at Spurs and collect a dozen plus goals in the process - YEA.

Arsenal's Freddie Ljungberg is about to put pen to paper on a £3m move to West Ham (Sunday People). For a few years now Freddie’s form has been in question; too often he has flattered to deceive and is being increasingly seen as surplus to requirements at the Emirates. Should West Ham be interested then it could be a move that suits all parties. Injuries and lacklustre showings meant the Swede started less games last term than in any of the previous seven seasons. Freddie to become a Hammer? Arsene won’t lose too much sleep over it, so YEA.

West Ham are also apparently close to signing somersaulting striker Lomana Tresor Lua Lua from Portsmouth (Sunday Mirror). LTLL (as he is more commonly referred by those who do not want to develop RSI) may be a smart signing for Alan Curbishley. The DR Congo international would probably not cost a fortune, and whilst he isn’t exactly a goal-machine he does frighten defences and is no doubt the kind of player who would become something of a cult figure at Upton Park. Lua Lua to become an Upton Park hero - YEA.

Steve Bruce is about to return to Old Trafford to launch an audacious bid to add Scotland International midfielder Darren Fletcher (Daily Star) to his newly-promoted Birmingham side. No fee has been mentioned so far, but I would imagine somewhere around £5-6m would get him on board. It is always a tough decision for utility players such as Fletcher who are just outside the startling XI in a big club like Manchester United, but sooner or later it is a move that may be necessary.

There is no doubting that given United’s recent midfield captures, he will have even less chance of cementing a regular spot. With no disrespect to Birmingham, Fletcher may just hang on a little longer and see what else comes on offer or indeed if Sir Alex will continue to give the 23-year-old a chance. Ferguson is clearly a fan of Darren’s but, like it or not, Fletcher is not world-class whereas the rest of the midfield at Old Trafford pretty much are. Fletcher to hold on at United - YEA.

Birmingham are also keen to smash their transfer record to capture Aiyegbeni Yakubu for £10m (News of the World). Middlesbrough may not want to lose their Nigerian goal-machine, especially given that they have already lost Mark Viduka to neighbours Newcastle, and not so importantly Malcolm Christie.

Yakubu is a consistent performer; 16 and 19 goals from his last two campaigns make him a much sought-after talent. Would he leave Boro for Birmingham? I am not so sure - depending on what other offers are forthcoming I would imagine he would stay at the Riverside rather than take the risk with a club  tipped by many to be heading straight back to the Championship. Yakubu to move to St Andrews - NAY.

The Daily Star on Sunday is reporting that record Dutch international goal-scorer Patrick Kluivert may be moving to Sheffield Wednesday now that he has been released by Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven. This would be a pretty big coup for Brian Law’s side, who are beginning to look like potential promotion candidates  following some lean years.

Regardless of their Championship status, Wednesday are a BIG club in every sense of the word. They still attract big crowds and could still attract big names; even so Kluivert is a very big name indeed and at 31 could still be dreaming of a top-tier team/ Even so if I was Patrick I would say YEA to Wednesday.
