Lets hope Bianchi does the business, we need some goals!
by Neil on July 24, 2007
Darren Bent will score 15 goals Premier goals next season, and i'll bet anyone who disagrees!

Not convinced Torres will make it in the premiership especially in the first season. He is a player that need time on the ball and although he got that in Spain we all know u dont get it in the Premiership. Also likening him to berbatov is completely wrong as they are completely different players, the latter being a tottaly different class! Would be surprised if Torres got more than 7 or 8 premiership goals this season!

Torres and Berbatov in a different Class ?? Torres is better and i'm pretty sure he'll prove critics wrong !

Chopra could yet be a good signing for Sunderland, he's an unknown quantity with a decent and ever-improving strike rate. £5m is a bit spicy though. As for Torres v Berbatov I would put my mortgage on Berbatov finishing with more goals, but this has more to do with the fact that he's had a year in the Premiership. Torres is more lightweight and fleet of foot, totally different type of player who I've no doubt will bang them in for fun after a season or so. Berbatov will be hard to stop this season, and watch out for Arsenal's new signing, Da Silva. He's slipped under the radar in all discussions I've seen. He's one of the most prolific strikers in Europe, albeit at a lower level. Playing for a better team now though...I would maybe keep an eye on him.

ur an idiot if u think that, berbatov is the best all round striker in the prem atm and has a goal every other game at international level whereas torres didnt even manage 15 goals in spain last season, mug!!!!!!!!! all i have 2 say 2 is remember fernando morientes? supposedly 1 of the best in europe when he joined liverpool look wot happened there, i suggest that before u big torres up without actually seeing him play u keep ur mouth shut
by Mug Buster on July 24, 2007
I have to agree with Pickle anyone who doesnt think that Berbatov is the best all round striker ATM in the Prem is a Mug or in denial. Torres has potential but the jury is out. LETS SEE IF HE LIVES UP TO HIS HEAFTY PRICE TAG.

This forum (sorry, site) is for spurs fans, can't recall seeing a site with some many pro spurs articles. Look for berbatov to struggle this year and then ship off to any of top 4 (of course spurs will finish below 4th, most likely 6 or 7th)

I am spurs fan and I like to post here so I could trash other fans. There are so many articles I like here about spurs.

In fact there is barely a mention of Berbatov anywhere? can someone please explain to me where the reference is? It is in a comment, but i didn't refer to this in the article? How is this article pro-spurs?

I can understand where both sets of fans are coming from here! Berbatov had a great first season and I expect much of the same this year. Torres has all the attributes to be a true great, but at the moment it is just potential. Who's to say that Torres can’t have a first season like Berbatov though! Liverpool create plenty of chances. To compare is a little unfair. Who would have said a year ago that Berbatov would have been the success that he has. You also need to look at the type of strikers they both are. Berbatov is much more of a target man, who has superb ball control and is a box predator. Torres is much more dynamic, meaning he is more direct and plays with great pace running at people. His types of goals vary greatly. Pickle, you also need to stop comparing Torres to Morientes. The only likeness they have is that their both Spanish. Morientes – whereas I agree ultimately failed - is more a player in the Berbatov mould.

Torres. is very much like nani and anderson for united at the moment. a big name with a big price. anderson has just come from the team which won the protuagal league and nani is supposed to be the next ronaldo. be careful though scoucers you go on like the league is already yours, i for one am not pinning much hope on nani and anderson for a few seasons and i feel that is the sort of time that torres will probably need to bed in, but the difference is we have players like rooney and ronaldo and saha that know what needs to be done, who will provide for you well torres beds in fowler? belamy? hmm they dont play for you any more do they, dirk cu*t was harly prolific and crouch well thank god he was playing for you last season when we was playing there, watching him trying to head the ball in with the head on his nob is just the funniest thing ever, torres will have to be carefull a few games and no results a slipped game here one there and another wasted league season and lets go for A cup again. you know it
you know it man u fans knows it whats funniest is gerrard also knows it.. he keeps saying you cannot aford a slow start.

I would agree with Tippers here except for saying tht berba is a box predator. many of his goals last season were from outside the box and he has scored some astonishing goals. Berba set up 10 goals last term which is more than any other striker in the prem he is a fantastic all round footballer. I think Torres may struggle a bit in the prem as it is a much more physical league but his quality is undeniable, once he gets to grips with the differences in the game he will score plenty

Its simple really. Berbatov is an exceptional footballer. Torres is still young and developing. His strength will certainly be a problem in the premier league! Berbatov built himself up, Torres has got to do the same, but more.

Only if Tottingham are awarded as many penalties as Charlton next season, you are gravely mistaken. Bent is a very average player, signing for a deluded club. Berbatov to be purchased by a Prem Top 4 team in 08 (which Totenham will not be despite rumblings...)

Those saying that da silva could b 1 2 watch becoz he was prolific in another league shuld b pointed 2 a certain ex-chelsea striker by the name of kezman...similar if nt a better goalscoring record than van nistelrooy in holland (stronger league than croatia), but, well we all kno the rest.

Who's to say da silva couldnt do similar things to RvN. You say he could be like Kezman, but why not like van Nistelrooy.....Wenger doesnt pull many bad signings out of the bag!
Now this is a good debating point, I dont have all the facts and stats to hand but I know for sure, the Henry's/Drogbas of this world were not setting the game alight in their first seasons (or half seasons) - Why no mention of DaSilva/Voronin/Harewood/Bellamy in this piece Author? There might be more objective sentiment if all clubs were covered ... I agree that this is not a PRO_SPURS site ... but as most spurs fans are conceited and deluded, its not hard to understand why they think that this site is PRO_SPURS ... Good work btw, keep it up ...
If a strikers worth is measured in goals then Darren Bent over the last 2 prem seasons is the most valuable english striker as he has scored over the last 2 seasons more prem goals then any other english striker. Any player tht can average 1 goal every 2 games and play 4 a side with such little creativity can hardly be 'very average'. Bent is a clinical finisher, fast, strong and good in the air if CMF rele only rates Bent as very average then i suggest tht CMF doesn't watch much football. PS Bents scoring record is much much better than Torres'

PS Bents scoring record is much much better than Torres'[/quote] Bent's record is 92 goals in 221 appearances, lets remember a lot of those goals were for Ipswich. Torres' record is 82 in 214 playing in La Liga! So goals to games ratio is similar is it not?! At the end of the day, Torres is first choice with David Villa in attack for the Spanish team. If Torres was English, he would be up front with Rooney as first choice pairing. No doubt. It's not that I dont rate Bent, I actually think he is a decent player
Robbie and Berbatov up front, Bent on the wing/bench?? Robbie/Bent up front, Berbatov in hole?? At the end of the day its all conjecture with regards who will succeed most over next seaso. Torres/Bent/DaSilva et al all need to settle into a new team/system ... the ONLY player with enough skill and game intelligence to successfully move to a new club will be Mark Viduka - regards the rest (Torres included) - they will have to prove their worth and I personally would rate Bents chances of instant success no higher than Nugent/Chopra (and that will only depend on whether he gets the opportunity to convert a few pennos to up this goal ratio) - gd luck to all ...

No offense, but didn't Torres spend a couple of years in the Spanish second division (segunda or something...) with Atl. Madrid...
by Mr Wok on July 25, 2007
This guy is vastly overrated, tottingham are in for a susprise on day one at the statdium of light, when a good old spanking awaits!
