Tottenham are apparently ready to splash out £8m for Swedish midfielder Kim Kallstrom from French champions Lyon (Sunday Mirror) The free-scoring Kallstrom has a penchant for letting fly from outside the box and  would be a useful acquisition to Martin Jol’s ever-growing squad. At 24, he has a lot of experience to draw upon and may seem a better bet than fellow midfielder Prince Boateng. What do Spurs fans think?

Martin Jol, Arsene Wenger and many other Premiership managers will be happy to hear that West Brom manager Tony Mowbray is finally set to cash in on defender Curtis Davies (News of the World). If this is indeed the case, Arsenal, Spurs and - depending on which newspapers or websites you visit - a whole host of other clubs are said to be very much interested in securing the highly-rated centre-back. I 'd say Davies is easily worth the £8-£10m bracket he is quoted in. If Spurs want reminding, they forked out over £8m for Dean Richards, whereas Arsenal have in the past invested in Pascal Cygan and Igor Stepanovs (the fact they paid money for them is bad enough), so whatever Davies costs is well worth paying. And no, I am not Curtis’s agent!

Chelsea have attempted to scare away potential suitors by attaching a £27m price tag to Germany midfielder Michael Ballack to try to frighten off Real Madrid (News of the World). I think at that price they won’t just scare off the Spanish champions, they may well cause them to question Chelsea’s sanity. However, it will have the desired effect - no one will touch the former Bayern Munich man at that price, though some would point out that Ballack's rather average displays last season would scare off most potential buyers anyway. Ballack is a class act, but there is no denying he is some way from the talent he was at his peak between 2002 and 2006.

Real Madrid expect to land Chelsea winger Arjen Robben for around £21 million this week (various). This transfer has gone on so long I had kind of thought it was already completed!. The Dutchman is seen as very much surplus to requirements by Jose Mourinho and will be keen to re-start his career under Bernd Schuster. What price he finds himself at Stamford Bridge in the Champions League in the coming season, gets ‘semi-tripped' by Joe Cole and both attempt to ‘out-dive’ each other? And before anyone tells me I am simply perpetuating a myth that either of these players is almost as famous for his over-reactions as his footballing skills, I would say, don’t bother!

Newcastle will table a £3m offer for Fulham giant Papa Bouba Diop while there are doubts over landing Norwegian centre-half Brede Hangeland from FC Copenhagen (Sunday People). Big Sam Allardyce is after bigger Bouba Diop - and why not? I am a big fan of ‘The Wardrobe’, as Diop has become known at Craven Cottage; he has been excellent for most of the three years he has been in the Fulham midfield. Just think how effective and scary a pairing he could form with Joey Barton in the Toon midfield.

It seems Wigan striker Henri Camara could soon be on his way to either Portsmouth or Bolton (The People). The Senegalese striker has already represented four sides since he arrived in the UK in 2003 and it would not be a huge surprise if he found himself at a new home at either Pompey and Bolton. The move could possibly fuel speculation that Nicolas Anelka will leave the Reebok.

On the subject of players more than likely to leave the JJB before the window closes, The Star on Sunday  reports that Manchester United will move for Wigan left-back Leighton Baines if Gabriel Heinze forces through his move to Liverpool. Scouser Baines, 22, is a class act who performances last term were well above the lowly position of his team. Despite playing for a supposed ‘lesser’ team like Wigan, he was still regularly on the fringes of England selection and may feel that now is the time to leave Wigan, who, much like Bolton, find themselves in the tricky position of attempting to regroup following the loss of an influential manager in Paul Jewell. All you can hope is that Wigan get a hefty sum for the promising left-back.

Moving neatly, as always, to another Man United rumour, also from The Star on Sunday, Napoli are the latest club to make a move for striker Giuseppe Rossi. I have stated many times before that Rossi is a player that Sir Alex would do well to keep at Old Trafford. It appears that the boss is not such a huge fan, though, given his hesitancy to give the American-born Italian a decent shot at first-team football in United colours.

Sir Alex has, however, recently re-affirmed that Rossi would be in the picture in the new season. Whether this is an effort to bump up the asking price is another matter.
