Spurs boss Martin Jol has been busier than most in the summer transfer window and things are beginning tof all into place with some more potential Tottenham signings.

Firstly, the Dutchman has apparently opened talks with West Brom over highly-rated defender Curtis Davies (Daily Mirror). This one has run and run pretty much since the final whistle of last season with many clubs said to be interested. But it seems that Spurs are at the head of this queue and I think Davies is half way to becoming a White Hart Lane boy.

Meanwhile, Jol has forked out £6million on Kevin-Prince Boateng (The Sun). The long-running saga is over, and the player thought of as one of the best young talents in the Bundesliga has signed on the dotted line for a fee thought to be nearer £5m than 6m.

'You could compare Kevin-Prince Boateng with the likes of Aaron Lennon and Tom Huddlestone in that he is an exciting player for now and the future' - Martin Jol

Jol is reported of saying of the 20 year-old: "In Germany he is regarded as one of the biggest talents. We recognised this and went in for him - you could compare him with the likes of Aaron Lennon and Tom Huddlestone in that he is an exciting player for now and the future. “

Chelsea will apparently invest the cash they get for Arjen Robben - most likely from Real Madrid - on Sevilla's Daniel Alves (various), or raid Spurs for Pascal Chimbonda (various), whose move could also involve Shaun Wright-Phillips. Lots of ifs and buts in this one, but I am sure Jose will get his man with Alves, thus putting an end to the fun on this particular merry-go-round.

Juventus are lining up a bid for Chelsea midfielder Claude Makelele (The Independent). Claudio Ranieri, now manager of the Turin giants, purchased the French midfielder while he was at the Chelsea helm back in 2003. It was a purchase that Jose Mourinho should thank the Italian for as Makelele has been instrumental in most of what has been achieved at Stamford Bridge over the last three years.

Claude might jump at the chance of a new challenge, having already won league titles in three countries as well as the Champions League with Real Madrid. He may be keen to be part of the re-birth of Juventus following their spectacular fall from grace and Serie A following the 'Calciopoli' scandal.

Giuseppe Rossi has left Manchester United for Spanish club Villarreal in a £6m deal (Daily Mirror). I think in years to come this move will go down in the ‘Sir Alex mistake’ column (where admittedly there are not many entries). Rossi is a talent who will surely find his feet in the football world. Villarreal, a small team on a big stage, can probably offer him consistent first-team options and will no doubt thrust him in the spotlight which may in time lead to a big move to one of Europe’s leading clubs.

Ironically enough, the American-born Italian will be replacing another former United player, Diego Forlan, on board the Yellow Submarine (Villarreal's nickname as opposed to Beatles tune). Sir Alex can at least be forgiven for letting Forlan go; however, the Uruguayan, too, has made a name for himself in the Spanish league and has now replaced Liverpool-bound Fernando Torres as Atlético Madrid’s lead hitman. Funny how the whole transfer wheel goes full circle.

West Ham £7m offer for Reading's Nicky Shorey (various) seems a little too late as the former Leyton Orient trainee has more or less agreed a lucrative new contract. However, it could be Alan Curbishley might make an offer that he could not refuse.

Wigan's Leighton Baines fuelled speculation about an imminent £6m move to Everton by watching their 2-2 draw with Werder Bremen from the directors' box (Daily Mail). Maybe he was at Goodison Park because he thought it would be a cracker of a friendly. Or perhaps not…

French sides Lens and Rennes are showing an interest for Manchester City's Georgios Samaras (tribalfootball.com), with City fans silently praying the Greek striker fools them into thinking he is worth paying ‘actual’ money for.

Derby County are lining up a £3m bid for Charlton’s Jerome Thomas (various). Could be a smart move - I am a fan of the tricky winger.
