GLASGOW (Reuters) - Holders Celtic beat St Mirren 2-0 in their League Cup third round tie on Tuesday with second half goals from Craig Beattie and Maciej Zurawski.
They survived a first half scare as Saints' Ian Maxwell hammered a back post header against the bar, but Celtic surged back and striker Beattie forced keeper Tony Bullock into two outstanding saves from a close range header then a fierce shot.
Celtic took control in the second period and Beattie hit the bar before finally breaking the deadlock after 75 minutes with a powerful 15-metre shot after a fine pass from Stephen Pearson.
