I like it, a balanced piece, Rangers are definitely catching up, lets hope Celtic fans don't think this article is pro-Rangers, i think it is evenly balanced and that is very rare in the Old Firm debate so well done Ralph
by Anne Sinclair on August 07, 2007
That Ian thinks the piece is 'balanced' tells you all you need to know. The idea of Celtic being 'daunted' by a Rangers revival is laughable and betrays a frightening degree of ignorance of what people are actually thinking 'north of the border.'

If you disagree then fair enough

Being honest I hope Rangers do give us a harder test this season. Looking at their squad though, I can't see them going all the way. If Celtic can stroll the SPL 2 seasons in a row and hardly strengthen wot already is a winning team then I can see 3-in-a row becomming compulsory. Fair story and I hope it's right because another easy title will be very boring at the same time enjoyable.

Don't disagree at all Ralph that Rangers will most definitely present a stronger challenge. Just disagree that Celtic will in any way be 'daunted' by it. Possibly unwittingly you strayed into white, anglo saxon, Rangers loving Scottish sports writer speak there!

Good article,I am very worried about Walter and his squad whilst they are not of top quality he will get the best out of them.Having said that the main concern for Celtic is how will Gordon and the bhoys gel at the start od the season and can they handle the pressure of a title going all the way.It will indead be an interesting season ahead Hail Hail

There is little doubt that it will be tougher this season for Celtic. Until we manage to solve the problem (that we have had for almost a year) of consistantly scoring goals, we will fail to hold on the the league. Rangers are much stronger this season. They may not have the most talent in their squad, but what they do have is a bunch of guys that will fight to win every game. The players they have are good enough to win most SPL games and I think that the winner of the league will come down to who gets the most points from the old firm games. It will be tight and I for one am looking forward to the whole season.

Ralph, refer to Annie's comments as, "possibly unwittingly" perfectly capturing the average Celtic fan's inherent paranoia and oooh the media and the sfa and the referees and the bogey man have all got it in for us...!

Possibly unwittingly you strayed into white, anglo saxon, Rangers loving Scottish sports writer speak there![/quote]What the hell is wrong with you? I don't get it, i express an opinion, just like you do, and you decide to claim i am a Rangers-loving white anglo-saxon, very odd, frankly bewildering statement for you to make. I don't even know how to respond so i think that i won't bother. Are you so blinded by hatred that you can not simply take an opinion, as just that and not symptomatic of some inner feeling of resentment towards your team. Get a life, glad to see other Celtic fans are reasonable enough to join the debate!
Ian Ranks Above... oh that's just great isnt it... Rangers are being pilloried by UEFA just now for a few mindless idiots and their stupid chants, bringing the name of all decent Rangers fans into disrepute... And then you go and post your name as stated. How clever of you! How long did it take you to work that one out. In fact, how exactly are you managing to operate a computer...? There's always one f*cking a*sehole who has to ruin a good bit of banter

while you may be a crap actor,,,, i think this piece is fairly balanced and well informed(as well informed as an englishman can be about scottish football). i don't know why people like annie can't see past everything being a veiled attack but be sure there are many in the rangers camp and indeed every club in the world who have similar "highly strung" fans. as for blue naboo you accuse celtic fans of paranoia,,,, this is probably because the protestant establishment in scotland(along with rangers) have a PROVEN history of anti-irish propaganda and social exclusion. it would also be on a par with acussing your average rangers fan of being a white, male, member of the protestant under-class with below average intellect, a manual job and a soft spot for pro rightwing/loyalist chants and anthems and that wouldn't be fair now would it??
indeed, back to the football. your piece is decent ralph, whilst i feel that celtic probably still have a slightly superior starting eleven, i personally feel the hunger and desire in the rangers squad will at the very least make a contest of the league this time around. I fear though that due to there being so little between the sides who will finish 3rd - 8th the olf firm may finish an embarassing distance ahead of the chasing pack (just for a change i know). acolics anon' (sic) i'm sorry could you please make your accusations in smaller syllables please.. i'm too busy draggin gmy knuckles along the ground and polishing the queens jubilee commemorative plates i keep on the wall of my small house that my manual job struggles to upkeep the mortgage payments on...!

Geez Ralph and others, learn to recognise irony for crying out loud. It's perfectly obvious you are not one of the aforementioned sports writers - you clearly know little about Scottish football after all. It was a light hearted comment; hatred? bigotry? Don't be ridiculous. We leave that to fans of the club on the other side of the city.

Heya Ralph! If you had a look at the various newspapers out in Scotland with the "comment" option, you would have noted that such a hot topic would bring out more than just "sensible replies". Annie takes the biscuit early on with her "white, anglo saxon, Rangers loving Scottish sports writer" and it goes off after that. You wonder why they - i.e. the Celtic lads and lasses - had not enough common sense to be a bit more reserved, having seen their team waltz past/over almighty Killie at home ... well almost, while Rangers "just sneaked" past a team they managed to get just 1 point out of 9 last season from. No indication of what is to come? Well, there will be much bravado and all, yet, as always, we'll see in May who was right.

Ralph, fair comments on the state of the play in Scotland. I think that a few of the Celts on the board have mentioned that Celtic will not be 'daunted' by a stronger Rangers team. Scottish football doesn't work when only one team is dominant. I want to see a competitive league, and if that means Rangers pushing Celtic to a higher level, then I'm happy. Seeing both teams performing in Europe at a high level would be a positive influence on the game as a whole in Scotland. It will be closer this year (not just Celtic and Rangers) but still I think Strachan has too much at his disposal not to win the league.

Or is this just a catch all term that helpfully lets you off the hook? I appreciate the lighthearted comment

No offence, Ralph, but it's perfectly obvious from your vague, non detailed article that you have gleaned most of your knowledge about Scottish football from cuttings. Do feel free, however, to prove me entirely wrong again.

No offence but can you tell me why you are so well qualified to make accusations as to my lack of SPL knowledge? Cheers

I think anyone who can read bias, bigotry, hatred or anything else into that article needs their head tested.

Hi guys, since Walter has taken over at Rangers we have WON more points than celtic,& we have also beaten celtic on a few occasions, just like last time he was in CHARGE, so I think we have a great chance of dominating Scotland again
