LONDON (Reuters) - Liverpool maintained their perfect home record this season with a 3-0 defeat of Tottenham Hotspur in early Premier League action on Saturday.
Second-half goals from Chile winger Mark Gonzalez, Dutch striker Dirk Kuyt and Norway's John Arne Riise condemned Tottenham to their fourth defeat in six league matches.
Liverpool's victory, their third at home this season without conceding a goal, moved them up to fifth place with 10 points before the day's later fixtures.
Gonzalez fired in a rebound from eight metres after 63 minutes after Craig Bellamy had contrived to hit the post from Steven Gerrard's cross.
The goal came just 38 seconds after Spurs had missed a golden opportunity to go in front when Jermaine Jenas prodded an Edgar Davids cross wide from a metre out.
Kuyt slammed in the second after 73 minutes with Tottenham's defence appealing for offside before Riise beat Paul Robinson two minutes from time with a trademark thunderbolt with his left foot.
