I am sure the Bulgarian will stick around. Why would he go to United, he would be behind Tevez and Rooney

As a Celtic fan i think you make a good case for Eidur, i think he could choose either us or West Ham, pretty even really.
by Decepticon on August 28, 2007
As a Spurs fan, I guess I'm an oddity in that I've always liked Wrighty. However, he's talking guff here about Defoe. Clearly the club, having been stung once by another player who claimed he was nothing buy loyal while he wound his contract down, a certain Sol Campbell, are making sure sure we don't lose out again. Sign a new contract, or be sold, when taken in the light of the Campbell affair, is not that bad a thing to have said, surely? Incidentaly, both Defoe and Capbell also share the same agent, Skye Andrews.

Liverpool dont need more strikers, I think Crouch will go and Babel will become a second striker as back-up....what we do need is a young and up coming defender as back-up for our defence.
by Essexian76 (not the gay one) on August 28, 2007
are only a factor, ultimately it's the players choice. Campbell made his move, he knew the implications..perhaps misguided by his agent, but it was still down to him. Berba or Defoe will choose where they go.not the agent he only brokers the deal

it would a great if Eidur comes to Prakhead, but in the EPL he will become easilier rich :-)

i think eider's already said that he's only interested in a BRITISH club involved in the CL, so it appears the glitz and glamour of the SPL AND CL is more appealing than the glitz and glamour of mid table mediocrity in the premiership. but nice try anyway mark. p.s. i only wish you too could sample the joy that comes with supporting the worlds greatest and most romantic football team.

Last season the look on berbies face was always worth a chuckle as he began to realise the vast gulf in class between himself and the rest of the squad. And as the only big fat fish in a small pond he was looking ever more lonely and dejected as he watched the lesser ones constantly screw up while looking hopefully towards him for salvation. He was a man on his way out and everyone knew it. So in comes Levy with his cronies from the board with a tasty payrise. For Berbatov this should be considered a bribe taken - he is way too good for Spurs and he knows that the right thing for his career is to be playing in the CL sooner rather than later. But the briefcase full of cash was too hard to resist and he decided to gamble with his career on very poor odds.

He probably meant a club that was going to stay in it though not fail gallantly at the first hurdle!!

Wrighty is a bit of a trouble maker trying to fill some column inches.... no doubt he has a good source as his son is mates with defoe, the latter is looking for a move no doubt as he knows he is fourth choice, he won't kick up a fuss but wrighty will for him...
by spurs on August 28, 2007
To be honest I have to partly agree with Wrighty here, not about the "disgusted" with Jol comment, but with the whole Defoe affair in general. It is not Jol's fault that he has been put in a position where he has to juggle 4 quality strikers (which in many ways is not a problems but interms of keeping them happy is) that is the fault of Commoli. Defoe is a great player and more so a great goal scorer but I am afraid I would have to stick him behind all of Berbatov, Keane and Bent. By keeping him at the lane we would be upsetting these three and not allowing them to get into the flow that they want. The competition argument is a good one but not when you are having to compromise the happiness of three committed players who we definitely want to keep. Personally I think it would be a good thing for all parties if we just cashed in on Defoe. Tottenham would get a nice bit of money for the transfer kitty, Defoe would get regualr first team appearances wherever he goes and get a real chance to prove his w

Then again he might want to sign with an ambitious team and not someone who can only attract players no-one else wants. Face it, real players don't want to play in a second rate league. Put five premiership clubs in your league and you wouldn't see another trophy at Parkhead for years. p.s. I do support the greatest and most romantic team in the world.

get eidur to celtic. we need a prolific goal scorer and, should we progress to the group stages of th CL he should prove a fantastic signing, even if it is just a loan deal. if we can afford to pay 40 a week for a flop like gravesen then we can afford his wages. obviously getting gravesen out of parkhead first would be a major bonus though!

Unattractive Man- how appropriate. Knows all and is berbatov's brain. Lordy he even knows the thoughts before the man himself. If berbatov had departed to another club he would have picked up a far greater salary than his upgraded deal. Suppose this mighty itellect would have then branded him greedy. How transparent are the thought processes or lack of them. Drivel but never mind ego is more important.Thank god it's nearly time to get the children back to school.

I would say that we don't want an Arsenal reject coming to Anfield, but we already have Pennant on our books. I can't see the point in us getting Baptista unless Crouch has told Rafa once and for all that he wants to leave. I don't think we need another striker unless he is another high quality striker in the Torres vein. We need to sign someone who is competent at Centre-half, someone to cover Carra or Agger if the worst happens and they are injured for a long time.

The last 16 is not the first hurdle, but how would you know?when was the last time you where in Europe except for a holiday.
by elpimpo on August 28, 2007
Apart from my home team Panathinaikos there are two shirts I wear with pride: West Ham and Celtic. I was leaving in London for 4 years and I will always support west ham but in relation to Gudjohnsen I'd rather see him going to the hoops. The reason is that I firmly believe he would make much more of a difference there than in west ham. Also I think signing Nicky Shorey should be by far our first priority except if you really wanna see lucas neill or matthew etherington playing as a left back should something happen to george mccartney (who by the way should be a good sub and not a starter).

I have mostly agreed with Wrighty in the past but the issue about Defoe not being given a chance is totally naive. We should have sold Defoe last season cause he has not delivered period.Let's face it, he's never going to score a goal with his head is he? SWP decision to go to Chelsea affected his chances of playing for England and the reason why Defoe did not make the world cup was because Wrighty's beloved Arsenal bribed Erickson to take Walcot instead.

Not coming to Britain after all as linked with Celtic? I hope there is substance to the rumour to be honest, and if he does come to Celtic that would be Britain as Scotland was still a part of that last time I looked ;)

Did you guys read the remark our Berbs made in that he is staying at Spurs for the time being because they offered him a SMALL increase of 6,000 pounds per week. How will he manage on such a paltry sum I ask you?
by RJP on August 28, 2007
WTF do Liverpool want Baptista for. I thought Liverpool made an amazing but slightly over priced buy when they captured Torres but then to buy Batista just ruins it. How is Baptista gonna fit into Liverpools stile of play as well. Also Ian Wright is right about Defoe's poor treatment. He deserves a regular 1st team place and so should move to a lower rated club. Tottenham are shit and so to be on the Sub bench all the time for them must make Defoe feel crap.

It stands to reason that without television money or hype the SPL has a fraction of the money of the Premiership, hence lack of perceived glamour. But anyone who disses Celtic and Rangers or dismisses them is a fool who knows nothing about football at the top level. Frankly, Old Firm fans look down their nose at the hangers-on below the top five clubs in the Premiership. Probably with
