Manchester United have had one on the worst starts to their Premier League campaign in recent years. Two draws and a derby loss to bitter rivals Manchester City put Sir Alex Ferguson's men in the unfamiliar position of 19th in the league, until a very lucky win over Spurs gave the team some impetus.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has now retired and the injury list is still a problem for the usually near-invincible champions. Wayne Rooney looks like being out for a considerable time and Louis Saha is still a few weeks still from returning up front. Carlos Tevez failed to set West Ham alight and I feel he will struggle over the course of the season, though he may show glimpses of his talent.
The midfield of Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani could be the saving of the Red Devils this season. Ronaldo, red-carded in an earlier game, missed the match against Spurs, while Nani scored a spectacular winner. Tottenham, however, were unlucky not to get a point at Old Trafford and had at least one good penalty claim turned down by the referee. Ryan Giggs, despite being a near veteran, still has enough pace to deal with most defenders.
In defence, United are still missing England star Gary Neville while the likes of Nemanja Vidic don't look up to the job, especially in Europe where I see Fergie's men conceding goals against Europe's top strikers. Edwin van der Saar is a top-class keeper and Ferguson will look to him to keep United in many of the forthcoming games.
I can't see United challenging the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and even Arsenal this season. If Rooney gets back quick they may still have a chance but the team will struggle in Europe. They should qualify for the group stages, but after that they will find it tough. It's time Ferguson hung up his boots as the gaffer at Old Trafford, with maybe Blackburn's excellent manager Mark Hughes getting the job in his place.

Are you out of your mind? What sort of article is this? Pointing fingers on the most successful manager in the history of EPL? You should take a break and go sit at home sip some coffee and rethink on writing such stupid articles

When will people like this author stop writing rubbish?? It seems that some people do love to make fools of themselves. And on what grounds does this gentleman think that Mark Hughes, and we do love sparky, should take over from Sir Alex?? Is it because he has won a premiership title, an F.A. Cup or even a League Cup?? I do not think so. Or is it because he has some special powers to see the future?? I do not think so either. The only conclusion I can come up with is that this guy is a nutcase, oh sorry or maybe a Scouser. Eat your heart out laddy and stop feeling sorry for yourself. THE BIG BOSS will WIPE YOUR SNOT ON THE OT PITCH come the end of the season.

Absolute rubbish. Vidic is easily one of the better defenders in the league when he's on form. Is on a bit of a dip after being injured last term, will expect him to get back to his imperious best in the near future.

What a load of rubbish! Firstly any team is likely to struggle without the likes of Rooney, Ronaldo, Saha, Park, and Neville. Secondly although United had luck against Spurs they had none against Portsmouth and Reading. This is the way football is Thirdly although I loved mark hughes as a player I don't think he is attack minded enough to ever manage United. At the risk of being abused i reckon Carlos so be given a shot at it when the time eventually does come. After all he has been instrumental in the signings of Ronaldo, nani and Anderson Let Fergie get on with his job! Most teams would be glad to have him!

Chris Goldsmith, do you get paid to write that rubbish? Did you manage to think that up all by yourself or did mummy help? It shows how little you actually know about football, I suggest you take up knitting, at least then you might have something tangible and worthwhile when you've finished!!!

hust a jealous spurs fan - the media is full of them, dont be offended united fans - they just love to link anyone connected with blackburn with moves away from the club. just look at the related articles to see more evidence! you just have to sit back and laugh it off!

i think man utd will be ok in just few weeks 2 come, our key players roo, ron, saha @ nevilles absence contributed to slow/poor start of the season, no one can doubt about that.
by Sir Alex on August 30, 2007
This is the biggest pile of crap I have ever read - I'll be the gaffer at United forever.
by Sherina on August 30, 2007

This is the worst article I've ever read! Fuck off and stop writing articles about MU!! We had a shaky start just because we were unlucky, and at the spurs game the team was a bit unconfident. But after Sunderland game Ronaldo will return and our injury problems will ease Saha, Anderson, hopefuly Ronney will be also fit for the everton game!! There is no need to panic! We have a great squad and a great MANAGER!!!

now before you all jump on me like a pack of raving hynenas. Let me finish. First why would fergie even think about retiring, he won the title last year. That gave him his appetite back.he is hungry again Vidic is a ahard controling defender who can use both positional play and aggression to dispose af the attacking team. great qualities. Now his main point, I really think Mark Hughes will be a manchester united future manager. You may not agree or like the idea however i did say future he is young and has lots to learn. He is by no means the finished artical but if he keep pulling out results and good performances he will grow in experience and confidence and his man management will grow. there have been so many mentioned in replacing fergie but the two who i can see it being is Hughes and Keane neither are ready yet. So the guy may have a point in 3 to 5 years but i hope and prey it does take that long and we get to keep him until then.. Rovers till i die

by craig on August 31, 2007
i cannot believe any of what i am reading. lets look over things here for one moment, we are premiership champions and were three games last season from the treble, SAF HAS PUT TOGETHER ANOTHER WORLD BEETING TEAM. we have had major injury problems at the start of the season and ronaldos red card did not help so ship off the greatest manager in the history of english football after 4 games, with all hes done for us!! you should be ashamed of your self, he will retire when he is good and ready, second wont win the league??? lets at least see up until christmas where we are if we are still only 5 points behind (or less) then we will see and finally who of you lot do not honestly believe that a rooney tevez combination will not destroy all oposition especially with the likes of giggs, ronaldo, nani and scholes backing them class players like these need two markers most people cannot live with rooney power and not even us could stop tevez scoring in our own back yard last season oh yee of little faith
by Holly on August 31, 2007
U no tat is prob the funniest joke i av eva heard. So mate, wer keepin fergie like 1999 we came bak an won thte treble so dont go mad yh!
by Saxon Paige Vickers-Buckley on August 31, 2007
Excellent: the rags from prawn-fried muppet land are actually worried: the responses out of all proportion to the issue. What can one expect from fakers and glory hunters who weren't around during the dark days of 1986-90. How were those home attendances back then lads? Oh, that's right...you weren't there. Your loyalty is a sick-mans appetite. If United ever slump you'll be off quicker than shit off a shovel. Useless rag fans. How are the jellied eels?
