Zat Knight is a goal machine at Villa Park. The huge central defender has netted twice already this season for Aston Villa. One happened to be while he was wearing a Fulham shirt but still, not a bad record.

The 6ft 6in centre-back rose tall on Sunday to head in Gareth Barry’s corner to give Villa an unlikely lead in their impressive win against Chelsea. Knight was lost for words after the game, understandably so, managing only: “It‘s great to score on your debut, and to win as well.”

Gabby Agbonlahor added to Knight’s opener with a well-worked counter attack thanks to a great run from surprise England call-up Ashley Young. England fans will be hoping that the tricky winger will deliver a similar performance on Saturday, provided he makes an appearance.

'You can have all the possession in the world, but if you don’t force the opposition keeper to make a save you have not dominated enough'

Jose Mourinho commented on how his side dominated the match with Villa. All I can say is that you can have all the possession in the world, but if you don’t force the opposition keeper to make a save you have not dominated enough.

Chelsea had nearly 80% of possession in the final ten minutes on Sunday but Scott Carson was never tested. Villa’s defence was the key with Martin Laursen and, of course, Knight being outstanding.

It’s definitely been a week of ups and downs for new boy Knight. The Solihull-born 27-year-old first scored an own goal in Fulham’s 2-1 away defeat by Villa, and later in the week was detained by police on drug charges.

Luckily things turned sweeter later on that same day when Knight realised a boyhood dream by signing for Villa. “I have been supporting Villa ever since I first got to know and understand about football. ” said Knight.
