Pleasing to the eye to whom (the table)?.....to Arsenal or to Tottenham supporters? In 17th place it is not pleasing to the eye to both. But if Tottenham are say, between 18th and 20th place it will be really pleasing to the eye to all Arsenal supporters...me included.

We're away to Bolton next week. It's a perfect opportunity to start him on the Right. Malbranque played very well on the right, but he ran out of gas in the second half. Considering how the season is going so far, what do we have to lose? Since Jol insists on a 4-man midfield, I'd go with Bale - Jenas - Hudd - Tarrabt. I'm not keen on the Jenas/Hudd central pairing, but that's another issue!

He's not ready for first team football, anyone who's seen him play would realise that he's a long way off starting games. Great skills on the ball and a great prospect, but he needs to learn to look up and use the ball before we should be starting him. It's not creativity that we're lacking at the moment anyway, we created enough chances to win the game comfortably yesterday (so did Arsenal before anyone jumps on me). Our finishing and defending is what let us down yesterday, will Taarabt help in any of those areas? of course he won't

To introduce Abel Taarabt into the first team would only be possible if Jol was allowed to be as patient with him as Arsene has been with our youngsters. Unfortunately, for Spurs fans, their board is too impatient to fully allow his development at the moment. The only way I can see this changing is Jol being sacked and the new manager given the slack to mould the new team without the pressure. As much as I think Jol is a good manager for Spurs and the right manager for Spurs, the board have made it clear they have lost confidence in him which can only be remedied by quick successes. Much has been said about Spurs weakness in defence but defence is a whole team. When Cesc was allowed to score his goal, the midfielder supposed to be covering him was casually jogging back 15 yards away.

yeah i agree with the idea of playing taraabt, but also we should play boateng this guy ouzes class.

Spuds fans really do make me laugh. Its always the same, always the same short sighted mentality to everything. Thrown in a young kid who has been playing reserve football and then expect miracles. Rubbish, the problems lie far deeper than that. The defence is poor, conceding is a speciality that hardly any other team was able to match last season and this year it is even worse. Its no good blowing 16.5m on a untried striker when you can't keep the ball out of the net. This is spurs problem, no planning, no understanding of the basic principles of the game. Always short term, always short sighted in this delusional hope of reconnecting to a distant glorious past. Its time that spurs realised that they are a top eight team, top five at best. Face the facts, leave the past behind and then maybe there is a chance of forging a brighter tomorrow. It won't happen though, it never does and as long as spurs fans keep harping on about something that happened forty years ago then anything they achieve will invariably

The New Zidane (tm) was busy setting up two goals and scoring an absolute peach from 30 yards out at White Hart Lane yesterday ;)

If we get rid of Martin Jol then we better make sure we have a top quality mgr to replace him. Klinsmann has no Club experience. Sheringham would be a joke appointment. Lippi is too old. Houlier past it. We need someone who has a track record at building something Maybe Mark Hughes or a tough guy like Alex Mcleish. The wrong appointment could set the club back 5 years again.

Spurs dont have any qualities to stay Top Four of the table...Their playa' didnt play with their heart..and their coach Mr Jol...Mr Who? Dont have class in eying a good player unlike our Mr Wenger only he knows best....to Mr Jol Que Sera Sera Spuds...lol
by Lee on September 16, 2007
Why not give him a go? Is that not what Arsenal did with Fabregas? Played him in a few games, he done well, grew in confidence, became a better player quicker than he would have if he were playing reserve football. I too think that Taarabt should be given a go, Malbranque has been useless as of late, Lennon's back also, great news, Bale's doing a very good job on the left, doesnt look afraid of who hes up against down the left flank. And what about this Boateng, hes been doing well in reserves, I know reserves is a whole different ball game to the real deal but we spent 5.5 million on him, does he not know much English or something? If you think about it though, our defence 2 years ago on paper wasnt as good as what we have now, our defence on paper now is a mile better, BUT, 2 years ago we had someone happy to sit back and be a class centre midfielder in Michael Carrick, he gave us some stability, we need another one, Jol's tried changing the system since letting him go, and failed, or hes tried playing the
...or hes tried playing the same system but still, failed. Martin Jol has undoubtedly been our best manager in 20 years or so but some of his buys, yes I know Commolli makes most but Jol also does get his share, and some of his tactics have really pis*** me off, like what he done against Fulham, we need a manager that will wow the team, someone who has had success, Marcello Lippi I would love, but for now, I'm more than happy with Mr. Jol. I doubt our chances of 4th though.

What's the reason we keep leaking goals? It's not to do with whether or not we're playing Taarabt. It's to do with playing as a solid unit. They should watch a video of their performance away at Man Utd over and over again. Spurs played from a very solid base that day -- they need to learn to do that week in week out.

Get rid of that p***k robinson in goal for a start, he is seriously overated, he had a good first season for us and since then has done sweet FA.
by fockthearsenalscum on September 16, 2007

I've heard talk about the possible replacement of Martin Jol bieng Aex Mcleish - this would be a complete JOKE. Just cause he's had a couple of good results for Scotland lately, all of a sudden he's a great manager. Lets face it, its not hard to do well in scotland when manage either Rangers or Celtic or any other side in that league who have money to spend. Look at George Burley and Hearts - he had money to spend and whilst he was there done really well, but look at him now back in the english league! So lets please forget about Alex Mcleish. We need someone like Mark Hughes or Big Sam (and he wont come now). Forget about Sheringham or Klinsmann, Hughes is the man. He's a proper pro who knows how the game should be played and has played at top level for years in the past - he's a winner. Look what he's achieving at Blackburn at the moment - what would he do with the talent at his disposal at Tottenham. Believe it or not I am a Jol fan but I think the stupidity of the pressure put upon him after 2 - 3 ga
by vic on September 16, 2007
Start with our major problem - defence. Put Bale at left back and Cerny in goal, at least for 4 games. Then lets have Taarabt on the left, Boeteng and Malbranque in the middle, Lennon on the right with Berbatov and Bent up front. So Keane, Defoe, Zokora, Jenas, Huddlestone may all get upset, but at least we would have pace, passion and desire. Of course it would mean Jol going, as he has favourites and would never drop Jenas, Robinson or Keane, so we need to bring so youngsters through, but if they are good enough, they are old enough. So bye Martin, hello Jurgen, lets have some real Spurs football
by spurs on September 16, 2007
Give Jol 2 more games and if he cant handle the pressure he's been put under Mark Hughes is the man. A big NO to Alex Mcleish, Klinsmann & Sheringham.
by USASPUR on September 17, 2007
The way I see it, we have several issues. (1)We lack steel, especially in midfield. (2)We need to learn how to defend as a team (3) Robbo is crap right now (4) we lack creativity (5) our manager lacking tactically - we don't see any adjustments, and his substitutions are bad. Seeing what Sneider has done at Madrid, he is the type of player we needed to get at all cost, and partner him with a defensive midfielder. Whether Boateng can fill either of those 2 spots remains to be seen. I for one am sick of Jol starting Jenas, Keane and Robbo when they are playing like crap right now. I actually think that Defoe with Bent or Berbs would produce much better.
by Ghetto on September 17, 2007
Boateng needs to start. We need some bite in the middle, and we should give him a chance. COYS
by Justin on September 17, 2007
Its easy to say to give Taraabt his chance to shine. Jol doesn't not have the guts to drop Jenas. Jol is not prepared to gamble.
by scott on September 17, 2007
our problem is in the midfield. with hardgreaves going to man u, we should have spent 16m on buying carrick back

first ov all i have always been a big fan ov defoe and i really think he needs to start. And keane hasnt scored in ages. wat a bloke said before about bent and defoe upfront that would be scary for any defence two powerfuk and pacey strikers. ov course berbatov and keane and grt players but not doin it for me atm. when lennon and king get back i think were gonna see the real spurs. but the top four teams have good reliable backup which we lack. i would like to see adel play on the left see how he dose and bale left back. that could be a real exciting left side i think. big tom or zorkora in with k.p.boateng. as for the manager i do really like jol hes got us this fair but i do think mark ov blackburn would be a brilliant manager. a manager who nos how to defend wen needed com on spurs lets not lose faith

by Yid07 on September 17, 2007
Surely the time to give starts to fringe players like Taarabt, KPB and Defoe is the UEFA cup tie against Famagusta on Thursday. This will give us a chance to see more of these players in first team action, and give them a chance to prove what they can do!
by steve on September 18, 2007
I can understand the smugness considering it was a result that Arsenal were lucky to come away with considering the chances, but theres alot of crap being talked by a team who frankly don't have much chance of winning the league. As we're supposedly so poor and could have scored 6 against you, provided players took their chances, it doesn't bode well for the supposed title challengers who, by the end of the season, will have gone 4 years without winning it. Yeah, that's really progress. Don't keep carrying on like 4th is any sort of achievement because frankly, it's not. You will need to face facts, in the long haul, you're just not going to do it once again. Finish 4th, worst of the top 4 once again. Nice work, lads.
