Most didn't believe me when I stated that Spurs were interested in bringing in Ricardo Quaresma or Juan Roman Riquelme, however a few days later the press discovered that this was true and although they were very long shots and did not come off, my sources were right.
I have been led to believe that the Spurs board were willing to stick with Martin Jol until the end of the season as they were made to look stupid for trying to stab him in the back before finding out that the preferred replacement had changed his mind about joining them.
I have learned that the board feel as if they are in a no-lose situation now with Jol. If Spurs fail to win anything or qualify for the Champions League this season, then they will not be seen as the enemy for ditching the manager. However, if Jol does guide Spurs to success, then they will have got what they wanted and all will seem well at the club.
The list of potential candidates we all know was long and all had very good credentials. Fabio Capello, Marcello Lippi, Jurgen Klinsmann, Ronald Koeman and, of course, Juande Ramos are among the top names to be linked with the post. If at the end of the season these men are all still available and the board find themselves in the position of looking for a new manager, then they would have taken their time to speak to these candidates to confirm that they would want to take the job so that the embarrassment of being rejected is not felt again. However, with the availability of Jose Mourinho, I personally believe that this whole situation may change.
A manager of this stature can become a realistic target (the Daily Mail reports that Spurs are third favourite at the bookies to land the Special One). As he is more than settled in London and will have money to spend, it will surely make the board contemplate sending out their own sources to see whether Jose would be interested in coming to the Lane. If so then surely no time would be wasted, but they cannot afford to be caught in another embarrassing situation and must ensure that their targets are realistic (for example, reports claim Klinsmann is not interested)
I am personally of the opinion that Jol is great for Tottenham, although he is probably lacking the tactical knowledge of the top managers and maybe cannot attract the really top players. However, if there is a choice of any of these managers taking the hot seat at Spurs, my first choice would be Mourinho, followed by Capello or Lippi, and then Jol.

YOu're in clould cuckoo if you think we have a snowballs chanc e in hell of getting Jose to join. This is a simple case of stupid people trying to add 2 and two and coming up with the square root of minus one! It's all in the imagination folks. Rijkaard on the other hand will be sweating buckets on this one.

If Spurs can get Mourinho, I truly believe Spurs will get hot and go places. It's a perfect marriage make in heaven.Wow!

Part of any generous pay off from Chelsea will include a clause that his next appointment will not be a Premiership Club. Thats standard practise.

I dont see why people jump at the chance to like get at the writes throat, this IS JUST gossip, and the author has just put loads of options that could happen, whether they be realistc or not, I wouldnt say it were stupidity. But as for Mourinho coming to the Lane, hes always praised us and yeah, I'd be a more than happy Spurs fan with him at the helm, have always loved his arrogance since day one, Mourinho/Lippi/Capello, wow, IF there were any chance of one of these coming to Spurs I'd be one of the happiest supporters around, not that Martin Jol is a brilliant manager and great with his words, and has driven us to our best finishes for some time, but to be honest, if you would keep Jol over Mourinho (had we the chance to get him of course), then you must be a little bit dopey up in the head, or just have a crazy opinion about it.

"Most didn't believe me when I stated that Spurs were interested in bringing in Ricardo Quaresma or Juan Roman Riquelme, however a few days later the press discovered that this was true and although they were very long shots and did not come off, my sources were right." I particularly loved this paragraph. Oh dear.

if spurs get mourinho. we will get champions league on a regular basis and also he will bring in the right players and WE WILL GO PLACES. we will be one of the big shots and if u havent relised or if u dont read he has always had a thing for spurs, so its a 50/50 chance of getting him. if martin jol loses his job he will be the firm favourites for the job. i would love to see the headlines jose signs for the lane. we will be a sick team with his experience he will bond the right players and we will win trophies. also he has said he would like to manage a smaller english club and we are the favourites as martin jol is on the verge of getting fired.so lets hope. BRING IN JOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by ed on September 20, 2007
People who say Mourinho can't manage another English team don't seem to quite understand that he has been sacked by the chav's and can now do what he wants. As for where he might end up who knows? It wont be Barca as their fans hate him and wont accept it. He has been payed off big time and really doesn't have to go straight back into management so I don't think he'll be coming to Spurs.

Good piece... This author is right in what he says. He's not stating facts but expressing some information that he's heard and giving his views. Anyone would obviously like Jose above Jol but whether or not he wants the job remains to be seen

'Mourinho would be grand he'll get us tp where we belong!!!' You mean where the eagles fly? On a mountain high? ;-P

No doubt Mourinho will be missed by Chelsea fans and players but the fact is simple. You cannot tell me that someone who has blown almost £500m in a club under 4yrs will not have say in everything that concerns the football club. I personally would. This is a true case of selling your soul to the Devil. When the rift started between the Almighty and the Special one, their was only going to be one winner regardless. As for Morinho going to Spurs, i would love to see it happen. If he brings sucess to Spurs, it will definitely cement his status as one of the best coaches ever to grace this country.

If he came to spurs he would be jumping from the frying pan into the fire. I would love him to come but Commoli would have to go so that he had control over team matters and ins and outs and I dont think Levy would want his lap-dog to go.
by yiddo on September 20, 2007
There's about as much chance as Mourinho coming to Spurs, as Fabregas becoming a season ticket holder with us
by SpursClimate on September 20, 2007
I agree with the previous post. Mr. Mourinho will not join Spurs until Mr. Levy and Co. make changes to the structure -- head coach/no. 2/sporting director. If we really want Mr. Mourinho, then we will have to give Mr. Jol authentic and just notice without any greed for trophies as we don't want Spurs to be labelled as glory hunters -- and also give up Mr. Commolli's job or at least modify his position responsibilities and allow Mr. Mourinho to have full say on the transfer market. It's a lot of hard work for Mr. Levy and Co. to do -- loads of boardroom discussions etc. *But* first let's give Mr. Jol have another shot to bond the first team for a few more games. I know Yorkshire terrier dogs quite well ! *hint* about Mr. Mourinho's dog! My heart tells me to get rid of Mr. Jol, make drastic changes to the structure of the club's first team as it has been producing too much negative energy and HIRE Mr. Mourinho. *But* my common sense and wisdom tells me to give Mr. Jol a 3rd chance.

Anyone who thinks Jose was praising spurs because he genuinely thinks they are contenders for the prem title need their heads read it was obviously a way at pi**ing Arse anal off

I think it makes perfect sense for Spurs to go after Mourinho. He has the CV and it would stick a dagger in the back of their crosstown rivals. I'm sure Mourinho would love to twist that dagger a bit also. However, I don't see this happening. Mourinho is a great manager but he has also been spoilt while at Chelsea. Until last season whatever he wanted he got. The bank book was open and he could spend to his heart's content. Tottenham with all their delusions of grandeur cannot match the bank account of Roman Abramovich. For Mourinho to stay in London he needs to have a bank roll that will allow him to compete with Chelsea on the pitch. Mourinho is a cautious defensive minded manager who would transform an attractive offensive side into a workmanlike and very blue collar defensive team. Oh yes they would probably win if the players were high priced enough to help him get the job done. Is that what Spurs fans want? If so, good luck. The booing at Stanford Bridge two days ago tells me different. I

I interpret leaving by mutual consent to be the same as being fired.I would also expect even Chelsea to have a clause in his contract, that he must NOT work for another Premier league club THIS SEASON. But could he be "asked to Advise" the club throughout the rest of this year. Oh how I wish I could be afly on the wall of the Spurs boardroom this next while.I suspect there might be a few who would be looking over their shoulder. If there is no clause in his chelseac contract then grab him if you can. Big fish do not become available very often

With tongue in cheek, , it could be "payback time" for the Arneson fiasco. But I wonder truthfully what was the final straw that broke Chelski's back. I really do not believe is was the Rosenberg scoreline?

I thought the same thing today that Percy has said. When do we ever get any of their players?..In fact it wouldn't surprise me if Abramovich gave him a million extra on his comepensation,to make sure he doesn't come to Spurs.I think Jose would like to come though, but he won't unfortunately.
