In my mind Paul McGrath was the best player to grace a Villa shirt. Considering his knees were cream crackered when we got him, he played week after week at an incredibly high level. His reading of the game was exceptional which enabled to make defensive tackles that his speed should not have allowed. Oh yeah, and he could drink like a fish!!!!!!

Paul McGrath for me was the bet player i saw play at Villa Park. For all the problems with his dodgy knees he was man of the match week after week, never saw him have a bad game.

I can understand the temptation to just plump for McGrath but their have been so many great players that I have to try and get a mention in as a reminder for just a few of them. BRUCE RIOCH, GERRY HITCHENS. PETER McPARLAND, ALEX CROPLEY, RAY GRAYDON, CHRIS NICHOLL, JOHN DEEHAN, ALLAN EVANS, JIMMY RIMMER, BRIAN LITTLE, GORDON COWANS, ANDY GRAY, JOHN GIDMAN, DENNIS MORTIMER, PETER WITHE, GARY SHAW, DWIGHT YORKE, TONY MORLEY, DAVID PLATT, DES BREMNER, STEVE STAUNTON, TONY DALEY, GARETH BARRY and the greatest unsung (outside of Villa Park) hero, IAN TAYLOR.

Some might say it's a little early to judge but I believe that Marlon Harewood has everything in his locker to go down as the best player ever to grace Villa Park. Immense strength, blistering pace and a rocket shot, he is a legend in the making. Marlon for England!

Paul McGrath is a worthy candidate, and will likely get the most votes due to which generation that is most likely to be online. I stick by my convictions that had Luc Nilis not suffered his horrific injury, we would have a new name to add to this list. He was just sublime, in the Cantona mould, but without the temper tantrums.

He scored 50 goals in one season 49 which were league goals. He's scored 167 goals in 226 appearances, including 10 hat tricks. One of Villas best strikers; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pongo_Waring

what a legend gary shaw. he's been my hero since 78 gary's skill with the ball and passion for the game. it's a shame his carer was cut short i think he had a lot more to offer.
