I'm not entirely sure it's Murphy's Law - but it's most definitely sod's law. As soon as John Carew gets off the mark, he gets injured.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, I have very high expectations of Aston Villa's  6ft 5in striker and I always thought the would come good right after he gets off the mark - which he did against Everton on Sunday.

Hopefully the knee will be fine and everything will be OK as he can get a rest on Wednesday. But it would be sickening if it turned out to be serious.

'If Carew can get firing on all cylinders I reckon we could have a 20-goal-a-season striker'

The Norwegian international hitman has been having scans on his twisted knee but probably knew himself when he woke up on Monday morning if it's bad or not - and we fans will probably be told by the club at some stage in the week.

Meanwhile fellow striker Gabby Agbonlahor, who scored the second goal in Villa's 2-0 win over David Moyes's men,  told the official Aston Villa website: "I was delighted for John to get his goal. I got my first of the season against Chelsea and you could tell from my celebration just how much it meant. Once you get that first goal, more will come and I'm sure that will be the case for John.

"He deserved the goal for all the work he does. As a striker you've got to anticipate things and he anticipated well for his goal. I was pleased for him. Hopefully now the injury won't be too bad.''

Now I don't want to sing Carew's  praises too much myself as we do have Marlon Harewood, purchased specifically for this type of incident. But if Carew can get firing on all cylinders I reckon we could have a 20-goal-a-season striker.

Anyway, we'll find out shortly but Martin O'Neill appears to be worried. "He did very well today and he put us on our way, but he is injured,'' said the Villa manager after the Everton game. ''I don't know how serious it is at the moment and the doctor's a bit concerned."

After the new website, and Shaun Maloney scoring a couple against Leicester on Wednesday night, this is the biggest bit of news I'll be waiting for in the next few days.
