West ham v Munich, ECWC final at Wembley 1965 (the best) and in modern times, West Ham 3 Man Utd 5 in 2001-02 and Chelsea 2 West Ham 3 the following season. Di Canio 2 goals, Zola 1 goal. All 3 games unforgetable.
by Gray on September 30, 2007
Either Tottenham Vs Arsenal 5-4 or West Ham Vs Tottenham 4-3. Both end to end rollercoasters that either teams could have won!
by Toffeeman on September 30, 2007
For me Real Madrid vs. M.Utd in the Champions League served up the best football I have ever seen. (The games where Ronaldo hit a hat-trick at United). Madrid were spellbinding.
by CurioCT on September 30, 2007
great being at wembley great day, being able to read wembley in the seats at the opposite end 10 minutes before the end. Only team not to lose to them that season. the 3-5 against man utd was also a great game even though we lost and I also enjoyed the 5-1 against chelsea in the league cup. the waffa final in 1984 was also great

As a Liverpool Fan The Best match ever has got to be the Champions League Final 2005!!! It was a fascinating match that went from complete depression to utter ecstasy

Tottenham v Burnley, FA Cup 4th Round Feb 1966. Andy Lochead scored twice for Burnley in the first five minutes, Tottenham brought it back to 2-2 by half-time but Burnley, who had Willie Morgan and Ralph Coates on the wings went 3-2 up. However Alan Gilzean had what must have been his greatest game for Tottenham and scored the winner and got his hat-trick with just a frew minutes to go so Tottenham one 4-3. It was never on MOTD or Star Soccer as it was then so if you weren't there you missed it.

Arsenal 0 Real Madrid 0 at Highbury in UEFA Champions League knockout stages. End to end stuff with lots of chances for both sides. Pires nearly scored a 70 yarder only for Roberto Carlos to foil it. Arsenal 0 Fulham 0 in season 2003/04 was also a great match. Arsenal made more than 20 attempts to put the ball into the net but credit to Fulham, they hung on.
by Gary on September 30, 2007
my most enjoyable match to watch had to be england 5-1 germany. Some of the most painful games were years ago in the 1990's when Everton were battling relegation. Some very memorable games including ones against Wimbledon and Coventry when we needed different scenarios to go for us to stay up. We survived those dark days and its a reminder of how far we have come. Blues Forever, COYB

Home and away (home especially) were both awsome games!
Why do people bother? England are and always will be worthless to any real club football supporter.

Junior Vs Millonarios (Aug 2005) from the Colombian league, during a massive thunderstorm in Barranquilla. It finished 4-3 to the home team who was winning by half time, having scored three goals in the first thirty minutes, lifting the coastal crowd to a near sate of euphoria. But the capital's visitors came back to 3-3 soon after the break and after four sendings off due to a massive on-pitch fight, the local Barranquillan team took the lead to win the game minutes before the final whistle. The stadium erupted like an angry volcano who had just been awoken after 100 thousand year sleep; the crowd went mental, I thought the stands were gonna collapse with all the jumping that was going on... It was also the first time Millonarios lost that season which made the victory taste even sweeter for the Tiburones. Alternatively there was also the european win over Milan in 2005, I wasn't in Instanbul but still enjoyed it in the streets of Liverpool, with a crowd of over 50,000 people.

But the game for pure drama, goals and contraversy was France v Germany in the 82 world cup, if ever there was game that everything that was it, Liverpool Palace semi 90, was fantanstic as was the 5-4 Spurs v Arsenal, so many though

The Czech Rep. against the Netherlands in the group stage. 0-2 down and king Nedved turned it all around 3-2.
by Tom on September 30, 2007
The best match I've seen was Czech Republic v Holland at Euro 2004. Holland went 2-0 up but the Czechs came back to win 3-2. Full of free-flowing attacking play, including one of the best and smoothest team goals ever from Baros, and the score could have been higher.
by Colin on September 30, 2007
Losing to the mancs in the '99 FA Cup semi final replay was the best club match I ever saw. It had everything except a foul throw. In International footie it had to be 2 matches from the '70 World Cup. Italy 4-3 W. Germany and the final itself. Brazil 4-1 Italy. That Brazil side is the best I've ever seen, but the Arsenal team comong together now will be the best of all, as you will all see for yourselves. Proud to be a Gooner!!!
by Paul on September 30, 2007
If you just watched the first three-quarters of this game there was nothing that deserved this title. However the last quarter was electric. Southampton scored after 67 minutes; ten minutes later Sunderland, showing the spirit, character and determination that Roy Keane has instilled into them, equalised after 77 minutes and then scored the winner on 87 minutes. The win took Sunderland top of the table - what a contrast this was to the previous Bank Holiday (August) when they had started the day bottom with no points from four games.
by Jim M on September 30, 2007
Like John C, the best game I ever saw was Spurs 4 Burnley 3 in the fourth round of the FA Cup in 1966. I don't know if John remembers but the pitch was dangerously icy and it was bloody freezing. The game wouldn't have been allowed to be played now. Yet, it was an incredibly exciting match and I don't recall anybody getting injured. I particularly remember how well Ralph Coates - who later transferred to Spurs - played on Burnley's wing. And, Glizean's hat trick was fantastic.
by CTID on September 30, 2007
The best game I've ever seen was Citys comeback game at WHL. Anelka injured in first half, Barton sent off at half time we're 3-0 down and we're in really poor form. We have an Icelandic goalie making his debut, doing an increadable second half. And with Distin, Bosvelt, Wright Phillips and Johnny Macken giving us the victory. It was like a well written and directed thriller this one. The best game ever!
by Aidan on September 30, 2007
No doubt about it the best Game of all time- Liverpool wiining the Chmps league for the fifth time! Ours for keeps- Premier League trophy on its way back in 2008.

Best ever match has to be the ECWC Semi Final against Munich at Goodison 0-0 in Munich beat them 3-1 at Goodison then went on to win the ECWC Or beat Liverpool 3-0 showing how shit they really are.
by Mark on September 30, 2007
Best one I can remember over the last few years is the Champions League semi final second leg between Juventus and Real Madrid. Juve lost the first leg in the Bernebeau 2-1 but were brilliant in the second leg going 3-0 up with Nedved in particularly great form scoring a stunning third goal. It looked over but when Zidane pulled one back late on, Real only needed one more goal to go through and Raul came very close with a header. End to end stuff on such a big occasion as well.

Chelsea 1-0 Man Utd F.A Cup final 2007. where to start? this match had everything. 22 of the best players in the world showing us what they are really about. i was gripped for the entire 120 minutes and the game was sealed with such a wonder goal that i couldn't praise it enough. best game ever. failing that England 1-1 Sweden World Cup 2002.

I KNOW THIS WILL EXPOSE ME AS A 'GREYBEARD' BUT SO WHAT. SPURS V NEWCASTLE IN THE OLD FIRST DIVISION IN 1951. SPURS HAD JUST BEEN PROMOTED AND NECASTLE WERE A VERY POWERFUL TEAM IN THOSE DAYS WITH OUTSTANDING INTERNATIONALS LIKE JACKIE MILBURN(THE CHARLTONS UNCLE) BOBBY MITCHELL, GEORGE ROBLEDO AND SO ON. SPURS WITH THEIR DAZZLING 'PUSH AND RUN'HAD ALF RAMSEY AT RIGHT BACK AND BILL NICHOLSON AT RIGHT HALF. BY HALF TIME THE GAME WAS OVER AND SPURS HAD BUILT UP A 3-0 LEAD. IN THE SECOND HALF THEY SCORED ANOTHER 4 TO RUN OUT 7-0 WINNERS. THE PAPERS STARTED TO CALL FOR THE ENTIRE TEAM TO REPRESENT ENGLAND, MINUS WELSHMAN RONNIE BURGESS AT LEFT HALF AND CAPTAIN. THE CROWD THAT DAY WAS 70,000 AND FOR THOSE SPURS SUPPORTERS OF A CERTAIN VINTAGE WILL \KNOW WHAT I MEAN WHEN I SAY I STOOD IN THE BOY'S ENCLOSURE

Easy: Wembley 1998 play off final finished Charlton 11 Sunderland 10; 3-3 at the end of 90, 4-4 at the end of extra time (Mendonca completes hat-trick as Charlton come back for the 3rd time)then 7-6 in the penalties. Has there ever been a more exciting and exhausting game?

Because city arent a top 4 club, This fa cup match always gets overlooked by ' sticker book' journalists. 3-0 down at the beginning of second half with 10 men away from home. Won it in last minute 3-4.

I agree with the City fan who recalled the WHL classic when Joey B got sent off at half-time and with City 3-0 down it looked grim. The Fanzone footage of that game is still the funniest i've ever seen with the City fan asking where the nearest pub was at half-time! However, being around a bit longer I'll never forget "Ballet on ice" in 1969 (ish). I'd just gained entrance into the outer gate of the North Stand, (Maine Road) when a roar greeted me and Jimmy Greaves had put Spurs 1-0 up after only a few minutes. What followed, on a pitch that was barely playable due to frost/ice that would certainly not be allowed today, was the finest display of pass-and-move football I've ever seen. Spurs were a great team but that day they were made to look very ordinary. Dave Mackay and several other leading players of that era were left floundering as City swept all before them in a classic captured, (thankfully) by the M.O.T.D team. CTID

Man Utd 3 West Brom 5 Dec 1979 Ron Atkinson's West Brom side of the late-70s played football with pace and passion, and this result wholly epitomised their style. With Bryan Robson commanding the midfield, Cyrille Regis terrorising the Man Utd centre backs and Laurie Cunningham running past the full backs with ease, this result wasn't a freak. West Brom sadly never won any trophies at this time (an FA Cup Semi-Final, third in the old Division One and a UEFA Cup Quarter Final), but they won many admirers with their brand of passing, attacking football. And it's still the last time that Man Utd conceded five at Old Trafford! Check out the goals on YouTube (type 'Man Utd West Brom') and believe!

Ajax vs Real Madrid in 1995, The yound Ajax team held posession for about 15 minutes to get a two goal lead at the Bernabau. It's the most commanding performace I have ever seen in the top flight.

It has to be the champs league final '01. The pairing of 2 great football coaching minds Hector Cuper and Ottmar Hitzfeld, never seen so much end to end action my entire life. Next is Euro 2000 Czech Republic vs. Holland (part 1), how the czechs lost is still beyond me. Finally, i would say Newcastle vs. Liverpool 1996/1997; it doesn't get no better my friends.

Sat down to watch the match on telly more out of loyalty than expectation. An evening kick off at Anfield is always great, remember the scousers screaming that Alan Smith had not touched the ball on its way in for the first (indirect free-kick). Then the late great Brian Moore "Thomas, charging through the midfield. Thomas, its up for grabs now!" Beautiful.

Matches that I was at and will remember forever...Spurs 3 Gooners 1 (Wembley cup semi), the 1984 UEFA Cup win, the 4-3 win over WestHam last season, the 5-1 League Cup and 2-1 PL victories over Chelsea, England 4 Holland 1 at Euro 96, the 5-4 and 5-3 defeats to Arsenal and Man Utd (games we lost but the football from both sides was truly magnificent)- the matches I wish I was at ...France v W Germany 82 World Cup, Milan 4 Barcelona 0 European Cup final and the 1990 World Cup semi against the Germans
