You have hit the nail on the head, Steve Clarke is a Chelsea hero. I guess the question is, would he want the job? if so, give it to him!

I am amazed that nowbody mentiosn lippi...his credentials are impecable 5 serie a, a hostof italian cups and worldchampion....he is taking a sabbatical, but could he be tempted....chelsea need a high profile coach, somebody who is on the same level as the club.....clarkey as good as he mite be ....it would be a hell of a first job... he should start a a smaller club ..spurs maybe...put avram back in the diretor of football role as a link to the board... but lippi is the man

In high finance - one way to get rid of someone you don't want is to promote them to a job they can't do so that it gives you a reason to sack them for non-performance. Maybe that is what Roman is doing - he is astute enough to succeed at whatever he does and I DO have confidence in his judgment. He has done amazing things at Chelsea and we must not forget that by also extending our loyalty to him. He is learning about this business and being human, he can make mistakes and we, as fans, should support him for it. I personally believe that he was right to allow Jose to go because the quality of football was terrible, although as a life long CFC fan, I will take every trophy he gave us - FA Cup final anyone?. As for Steve as manager, it's an interesting option. He does not have the charisma but he is certainly better qualified and better looking than that Grant guy! Moving Grant to bring Steve in is an excellent option for CFC at this time as it will then allow the Board and Roman to find the best manager fo
i agree with u that supporting cfc is all that counts, and that roman is experiencing a fairly steep learning curve as far as fans etc is concerned, but it takes strong people and the necessary friction within to take any business ahead ...maybe it was time for jose to go... we ll never know what excactly happened, but you need a manager who speaks his own mind or unfortunately more importantly , who the tabloids believe is his own man.... on that score avram will always loose....not because he is a yes man ...maybe and probably he is not , but he will always be perceived as one.....we need a NAME....steve always strikes me more as a peter taylor than a brian clough...no disrespect..what did clogh ever achieve without taylor.......

I FIND THE ARTICLE VERY INTERESTING AND PRACTICAL. SINCE CLARKE HAS BEEN WITH JOSE DURING THE FANTASTIC YEARS, I AM SURE HE TOO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SUCCESSES ACHIEVED BY THE CLUB. LIKE THEY SAY, IT IS A TEAM EFFORT. I STRONGLY AGREE THAT CLARKE SHOULD BE GIVEN THE CHANCE TO BE THE NEW MANAGER. ONLY TIME WILL TELL, BUT HE CANNOT DO ANY WORSE THAN GRANT; ONLY BETTER. ROMAN, PLEASE LOOK WITHIN YOUR OWN HOUSE BEFORE LOOKING OUTSIDE.

Interesting idea but history has shown that a number 2 who steps out of a successful partnership to become a number 1 always fails. Can anyone name just one assistant coach who has gone to become a successful head coach? I've racked my brains and can not think of any.
