Chelsea will appoint Ajax manager Henk ten Cate as first-team coach next week. And it's only two weeks since Avram Grant landed the job. Despite two poor showings in the league, the Israeli has come out smelling of roses from Hull and Valenica (and this is the only time in the history of sports writing that the two cities are mentioned in the same sentence).

Ten Cate masterminded Barcelona’s Champions League triumph in 2005 and is a proponent of the beautiful game. According to The Sun, Grant will still be the manager while ten Cate will be the coaching brain. Grant, apparently, is behind the appointment.

How many goals does a keeper have to let in before the red tops have got him on the transfer list? Aston Villa have let in eight goals in seven games, Fulham a more worrying 14 from eight and Manchester City a paltry six from eight. Yet all three team are linked with Wolves keeper Wayne Hennessey (Daily Mirror).

Luton midfielder David Bell is being watched by Portsmouth and West Brom with  the Hatters rejecting a £500,000 offer from QPR (The Sun). The way Luton and QPR are playing in their respective divisions, it would not be a good idea for Bell to move to west London. Playing for Portsmouth, however is fun all the way with 15 goals in eight games.

Derby County manager Billy Davies is satisfied his team will not be relegated despite getting thrashed by every time they get on the team coach to an away game (BBC Sport). "I'm very happy we are still in the mix." You're not in it, Billy, you're taking it.

Jose Mourinho (remember him) is looking at two relatively unknown teams to make his comeback. Real Madrid and AC Milan are on his wish list (The Sun). It would, of course, be very interesting to see how the Spanish media would react to the Portuguese O especiale's homespun philosophy of life. The Milan hacks might give him a wide berth with 'non tanto speciale' or more probably 'rompe scatolle' (linguisitc experts Sam Allardyce and Steve Bruce have the translation).

Ashley Cole's wife, Cheryl, has revealed the defender felt 'paranoid' at Arsenal because there was not enough English spoken in the dressing room (Daily Mirror). I would hazard a guess that there wasn't too much at home either, Cheryl.

Tottenham are apparently looking into moving to a new stadium in Enfield (The Guardian). The question is, in five years, will there be room for two teams in the Ryman League from the same suburb? Or maybe Enfield Town will make to League Two. Don't worry Spurs fans, The Guardian is notorious for typos, they really meant to say 'a field'.

Steve McMahon is the hot tip to take the managerial position at Gillingham who are doing rather well without a boss after seeing off Leeds United and Leyton Orient (The Sun).

Despite losing at home to the Gunners on Saturday, West Ham are getting one over Arsenal on the personalised car registration front. The number plate WE57 HAM is for sale and expected to fetch more than the £36,000 someone paid for AR53 NAL (The Times). The record will certainly be smashed should Scunthorpe get promoted to the Premier League.
