i personally dont think rafa will let riise go, he creates too many chances and scores a few goals as well everything rafa wants so. why would he get rid of him, a big ZERO OUT OF TEN on this story

I am only reporting what i have read, personally i think Riise will not be at Liverpool next season, it's just an opinion. Your right he does create chances and score classic goals, but sooner rather than later one of the younger alternatives will take his place

I know old strikers always come back to haunt you, and if he goes to City he'll probably score against us at some point, but I'd bite Sven's arm off to get £12M for Defoe. People always talk about him being one of the best finishers in the Premiership, but it's patently untrue. He scores a few spectacular long-range efforts, but those should be bonus goals, not his only way of scoring. I'd rather have £12M and use it to buy quality elsewhere in the team. We don't need 4 tier-one strikers anyway and Keane is too good for Defoe to get a look-in.

Why would defoe want to sign and play for a guy who overlooked him so often as England boss and even prefered to pick a runt who'd never played for in the prem or for his country before over him for the World Cup? Id hate the speccy twat if i was him!

Why on earth would Defoe go to Man City when their manager is partially responsible for destroying his confidence? Sven treated Defoe appallingly when he was manager of England - picking the hopelessly inexperienced and ill prepared Theo Walcott for the World Cup ahead of him; playing midfielders like Kieron Dyer up front instead of him; and, on those occasions that he was given a chance, usuallly giving him only ten minutes and rarely letting him play alongside a striker like Rooney or Crouch, who might complement his style. As to the poster who says that Robbie Keane is just too good. That could just be because whenever Keano is in a poor run of form (as in the first six games of this season), Jol lets him play through it. Defoe is never given that chance.

their mind games are laughable and meaningless, and betrays the fact they are scared ... on jermaine defoe, I think he should only move to a team where he is guarrantteed regular games .. going from west ham to spurs was a terrible move, as he ended up on the bench. think defoe is under-rated, and wish he will get out of spurs as quickly as possible.
remember a flying defoe at west-ham, taking defenders on and really tough to mark. Now he is only a shadow of himself because he gets 30 minutes or so every couple of matches. I think he should only move to a team where he is guarrantteed regular games .. going from west ham to spurs was a terrible move, as he ended up on the bench. think defoe is under-rated, and wish he will get out of spurs as quickly as possible.

I can see defoe going to liverpool in january, with Crouch moving on also. Owen is still my first choice, but i know thats just nostalgia. defoe is younger, quicker and less injury prone.

Mark, I wouldn't believe the Daily Express. SGE is a clever bloke and hasn't revealed any of his January targets. The press are linking us to just about every striker out there. He knows he will get better value in Europe, that's why he didn't sign English players before the start of the season. If he can get qaulity players like Elano and Petrov for sub £10m, he certainly won't want to pay £12m for a striker that keeps the bench warm at White Hart Lane.

I read some folks blaming ericson for not picking defoe, but how could he pick defoe when he was not getting regular team appearances ? The spuds destroyed the guy's career ... period. ManCity could also be amassing too many strikers .. he should consider teams like sunderland/derby/middlesborough/etc where he is definite to get regular games for the next year or two ,., after that he will be world class again
That's a good point, but would Defoe overlook this problem to get first team football, maybe Sven has seen the light and wants to give a good striker a fair crack of the whip
Maybe. But, if you were Defoe, would you trust anything that Sven said to you now after the way that he had treated you when manager of England? I wouldn't. Besides, Defoe would have no more guarantee of first team football at City than at Spurs. Bianchi, Bojinov, Mpenza, Samaras, Vassell, Sturridge (top prospect). That's some competition.

What do you think he is worth?

Jamie, Did you see the name of the paper they got the riise rumour from. I still cannot believe how come they do not name it The Lie instead.

I see: it was all that mean, nasty man SGE who is responsible for Defoe's form, or lack thereof. Right. Sven will not be buying Defoe because a. he thinks he's rubbish, b. he hardly fits into Sven's system does he?, c. he does not have the right temperament, d. Sven JUST SAID that anyone he brings into the team in January will probably NOT be anyone heard of in England, e. this is just more tabloid muck-raking, probably instigated by an agent. Given that City have 150 million (admitted, denied, leaked, denied, dismissed, doubted, admitted, suspected) moved out of one of Thaksin's Swiss bank accounts (last month, just when the Kentaro deal went through) available in January for signings, I don't think Defoe for 12 is on the radar. All in all, think "smaller" or much "bigger." Anyway, Bojinov will be back ahead of schedule. If anyone from Spurs goes to Maine Road it will be Berbatov to join his mate Petrov and his countryman Bojinov linking up with Elano (with whom Petrov is having a love afair).
If anyone from Spurs goes to Maine Road it will be Berbatov to join his mate Petrov and his countryman Bojinov linking up with Elano (with whom Petrov is having a love afair).
Nice try, mate! But, sadly for you (and Spurs), the only club in Manchester for which Berbatov seems destined is United. If not there, then another of Europe's top clubs. You haven't got a prayer.

its october players can have injuries or long term loss of form so why would someone as intelligent as rafa be closing in on players he is only at the stage of sounding out agents the same goes for the other managers enjoy the game and worry about transfers on the 1/1/08 not before

How can you call Famagusta "Cypriots", when Famagusta is in Northern Cyprus, and as far as I know, Spurs played in southern cyprus. Its a bit like Newcastle is in Scotland!!! I take great offence to this calling themselves Famagusta, especially as I come from there and no way are they my local team

Defoe. Not good enough for City. Better suited for bench-warming in the relegation zone. Sven knows talent and value when he see's it. Defoe for 12 mill? Don't make me larf!!!
