As Arsenal's season soars with their performances, so does one little man's dominance and reputation. Like the team's performance so far, Mathieu Flamini has proved his critics wrong with amazing performances in the centre of the park.
It seems like years ago (April 2007 to be exact) that his critics were crying for his head; for him to leave the Gunners after his lack of interest and engagement with the team. Indeed, Flamini himself admitted a lack of first-team opportunities could force him to buy out the final year of his contract and leave Arsenal. He was unhappy that he was playing so few games, even though there were a string of injuries to the starting line-up. The defensive midfielder was recruited by the Gunners from Marseille in the summer of 2004, but failed to secure a regular place in the starting 11. At the beginning of this season, Flamini was considered to be behind Cesc Fabregas, Gilberto Silva, Abou Diaby and even Denilson for the central midfield positions.
Instead, after the first two months of the season, the Frenchman has proved the perfect partner to the effervescent Fabregas. His steady passing, accurate tackling and ferocious determination to win games juxtapose nicely to the incisive passing, delicate chips and brilliant crosses of his Spanish teammate. He works hard throughout the whole match in any game and never backs away from any tackles.
In the past, if there have been any complaints about Flamini's play, they has concerned his often quarrelsome behaviour. To the delight of all fans, the 23-year-old has showed that he has matured over the past year. Indeed, he has even played peacemaker in a couple of flare-ups during matches.
Kudos to the Professor for taming the Flame and bringing the best out of him.

The Arsenal Gattuso! Gattuso! Gattuso!

I see his impact waning though. In the last two games but one, Gilberto's coming on calmed the game. I see Gilbert back in the team before Christmas.

I agree, but Flamini is not as tested as the seasonal Gilberto- a world cup, copa america, premier and FA cup winner. We need to test him longer b4 AW takes a decision on whether or not to offload the mercurial Bert.

Flamini is average and will be found out within the next two weeks :( I expect Gilberto and Diarra to be fighting for a place beside Cesc. Why is Wenger risking losing Gilberto and Diarra just to play Flamini who's contract runs out at the end of this season and he wont sign an extension...baffling

Until this season,Flamini never really played , in his natural position for Arsenal. Those who were calling for his head were dump muppets with no brains for football. I knew Flamini since his Marseile days and I knew that it was just a matter of time and adapting to the English game. What did the people learn from the Drogba case? The man played like a chicken for two full seasons but look at him now!!
Come on this site again in two weeks time after we play some decent opposition and tell me how good Flamini really is!! Will have the positional sense to pick up Rooney coming deep or Gerrard's driving runs.... I dont think so! and the sad part about it is that we will lose valuable points because of him. Fergie would have no problems dropping either Fletcher or O'Shea for a big game against a title rival Wenger should do the same with Flamini.

It's nice to see Flamini play so well this season, but Diarra is the future DM for Arsenal. The boy is just too good to be playing only Carling cup games and some premiership cameos. Gilberto will leave soon, regrettably, but that's Wenger's style. This Arsenal team is so deep and versatile, that the inexperience of the team will not stop them from winning the league. Watch out for the liverpool game to see the best of Arsenal because good teams seem to bring out the best from these players if you consider last season.

"ad part about it is that we will lose valuable points because of him" - seriously? I dunno if you've ever had this but before this season whenever I see flamini on the teamsheet of some big matches I thought we'd lose... but whenever he plays we seem to do well... i might be wrong though

Last season, Mathieu Flamini was a secoundary note in the midfield, and he knew it. I am so glad he decided to stay. He said this summer he would try to stay and prove himself, and so far he certainly has.

What the hell did he do to Fabregas in the celebrations for Arsenals 4th last night? Wasn't a serious thing, but Fabregas ran after him...Arsenal seem to have a great team spirit. I really think we can win the champions league this year, but we need our back-up players really pushing, and not complaining. Gilberto looked even slower than usual when he came on last night, and when we did the team huddle at the end, while all the players were smiling, he wasn't... we need him playing well to come off the bench if we need to shut up the midfield...

Wenger should buy better striker like Fabiano to complete our dreams of winning the champions league and the primiership title.
