Manchester City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson wants to sign Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson in the January transfer window (The Sun). Sounds like Sven, loyal to players regardless of form or function - and Robinson's recent performances, plus the fact that a new man is in charge, gives this rumour weight. Very, very little weight. More than likely Sven will look elsewhere to splash the cash and Spurs will want a shedload for Robbo.
New Norwich boss Glenn Roeder is planning to raid former club Newcastle for out-of-favour striker Shola Ameobi (The Sun). A smart move for Glenn. Ameobi has talent and even if he lacks what it takes to be a top striker at the top level, he can certainly be a good striker at a crappy level. Bringing in talented, hungry youngsters will help get the yellow and green kits on the up. Tottenham coach Juande Ramos has begun clear-out plans to make room for a £5million swoop for Espanyol centre-half Dani Jarque (Daily Mirror). You have no idea who he is, do you? But the Spurs defence has looked like total b****cks so if he can head or kick a cross or set piece away, then he's worth double the money they're talking about. Shame about that £8m they just blew on Younes Kaboul, who seems to have been dropped so Pascal Chimbonda can play in the centre.
Aston Villa will have to pay a British record £10m for a goalkeeper to make Scott Carson's move from Liverpool permanent (Daily Express, Daily Mail) Didn't Sunderland pay that for Craig Gordon already? Or are we confused? But as pretty good as Carson is, £10m seems a bit steep when that money could be well used on other areas of the Villa Park pitch. Alternatively, we bet Liverpool would be happy to just loan the guy out every single year until Rafa is fired, so why bother stumping up any cash at all?Andriy Shevchenko has been warned he must get himself 100 per cent fit to persuade new coach Avram Grant to keep him at Chelsea (Daily Express) Fair enough. What? There isn't always a joke to be made, you know.
