I think the best ever player is gordan banks as he was the best goalkeeper of all time and he made the best save of all time.

No need to ask the question. No one comes close. The guy played like he was wearing slippers....

Diego Armando Maradona - No other player comes near...

The one and only "Slim Jim" Baxter, as he ran rings round the English at wembley just after they won THAT World Cup all those years ago!
by Mark Munro on November 27, 2007
Pele for me was the best ever having scored over 1000 goals winning 3 world cup medals and keeping fit and healthy.

There have been some good players in my life time - Henry, Kaka, Zidane, Cantona and Maradona were all great players. George Best was also one of the best, but from what I have seen of him Pele is world's greatest ever footballer.

Only one player ever won the World Cup ON HIS OWN! He played like a demon, cheated, lied, cried, sweated, swore, beat the ground with his fists, dribbled, tackled, passed, handled, scored goals, defended, walked around like a gunslinger, led the singing in the dressing room ... He laid his talent bare for all but the blind to see. That was the great, the one and only, never to be repeated Diego Maradona!!!!

surely has to be Bobby Moore, not only a great club player, but captained England to the world cup victory, and was a sportsman and a fantastic embassador for the english game. If you ask anyone abroad that his name will be mentioned more than any other.

Diego Maradona. Won the world cup single handed not once but twice with an otherwise mediocre team. 'nuff said.

It is close to impossible for me, with my 23 years on earth, to find the best player ever. I cannot say Maradonna or Pele or any of the old stars, because i have yet to see a whole game any of these have played. The only thing I can do is to name players from my time which I think deserves recognition. Players like Hagi, Stoichkov, Wosz and Mcmanaman comes to my mind, but they are not considered to be the best ever. Hagi and Stoichkov have proven they need to be on this list, but Wosz never had the chance to prove himself because he played for Bochum, a mediocre team from Germany, but he possesed the qualities of an exellent offensive midfielder in his prime. Mcmanaman do not need and explanation to why i cinsider him one of the best. I his time an Liverpool he sometimes were an attack alone. He had dribbling skills i have never seen in an Englishman before. So please consider these names when you vote for the best football player ever. If you are under 25 years and say that Maradona is your favourite, at le

No problems there. Next question please

Our magnificent number 7 could finish with either foot or his head and play in any of the forward positions with ease. If Ronaldinho says Larsson is HIS favourite player that has got to tell you something.
Did I forget he also snorted?

Socrates, a true maestro. And he never even broke into more than a jog. Legend.
by MutuStash on November 27, 2007
Hate to say it because he's a sh*t, but Maradonna without a doubt
by Tack Hunter on November 27, 2007
Zizou has to be considered of our generation for his contribution to the modern game - achieved everything a professional footballer can. And yes, I say this baring in mind that I saw John Jensen score!
by Huzzy on November 27, 2007
Best player of my time without a doubt. Considering i was born in '87! Arsenals all time record goal scorer n winner of so many awards
by Colie on November 27, 2007
Pele walks it, in my lifetime maradona was the best but unfortunatly he's not even close to pele by far and away the best footballe ever for rerasons see Mark Munro's comments. Ps Paul McGrath has a good shout too, but for the same reasons as maradonna was battling an addiction.

Over the years there have been many to choose from. None however have come close to the one and only Pele. Not only was he the complete player, he was a gentleman who unlike todays "superstars" never took a dive to gain free kicks or have an opponent carded, and never argued a decision or a bad tackle. He was the master in every way. He had skills and charisma that guys like Rooney and Henry can only dream of.

Shame people can't differentiate between the greatest player from their club/country and just the best player the world has seen, some truly laughable suggestions. Anyway, good shout on Christian Dailly, but it has to be Diego Maradona or Pele. In the future, I also believe Theiry Henry and Ronaldo (Brazil) should be in the top ten considering records and achievements.

George Weah is the best. If he could perform during his time, when his country was being devastated by war..he could've done more if peace had been in his country.
