Gerrard is definitely world class for me based on his performances for Liverpool especially in the CL. Not many players have a better strike than him, and he provides so much drive from midfield. The editor mentions that Gerrard hasn't performed for England, but what exactly has Fabregas done for Spain. I saw Spain play against N. Ireland, Sweden and Denmark and Fabregas was by far the least effective of the Spanish midfielders. Xavi was the one dictating midfielder and must have completed over 100 passes. Andres Iniesta and David Silva also contributes far more than Fabregas. Fabregas for me isn't the most exciting young Spanish talent, that title belongs to Sergio Ramos, who unlike Fabregas is one of Spain's most influential players.

Stevie Gerrard or Frank Lampard world class? Not on your Nelly. It's nice to have Javí Mascherano, Momo Sissoko, Claude Makalele and Michael Essien running interference for you at a club level. There's no doubt that both players have had their dazzling moments at club level, but, at the international level, with no one willing to wipe the claggy off their bums or crack the motivational whip, they've proven to be a right pair of donkeys. They are the two most obvious examples. Sol Campbell was once the best, but he's way past it. I can only muster some enthusiasm for Rio, Wazza, Cashley and Joe Cole. If Rio knew there'd be blood tests before every game, he might be able to concentrate 100% of the time and fulfill the potential he still has. These four aside, it's time to clean house and start giving the kids a shot. I don't see any true quality playmakers out there, unfortunately. It's going to be difficult qualifying for the World Cup without a quality holding midfielder and a playmaker with leadership skills

We've already got a quality holding midfielder in Hargreaves.

Why does the press have this love affair with Gerrard. When the chips are down and leadership is needed to rally the troops from midfield he is nowhere to be seen. Leaders need to urge the team on , give them encouragement in the manner of Roy Keane. I don't see that from Gerrard.

the editor is 100% right england has no true star for national team only star for premiership, they dont function when it matters most and thats why i beleive beckam is still the best english player in that team, england talks too much on a player who is not good enought to be a star players like rooney, lampard, terry and onlr gerrard can be accepted as a much better player.rooney didnt scored for national team for 2 and half years but still the media label him a super star and i dont blame the coach cause i agreed with what roy keane said last night that the players r big headed and too much ego, its about time the media stop putting too much praises on this players when they win matches against lesser opposition like andorra and etc. finally its the same media that said errickson is not good enough to be coach and more than one year after changing him england is nowhere to be found on the map of euro 2008, disgrace to the media and to those who runs football who r blind to see that england is not good eno

He seems to be getting worse too, very poor this year so far for both club and country

Stevie G must start trying to play to his ability and not as he has been doing for the last three or four seasons which is simply put trying to gain a free kick or a penalty whenever he glides into the box. One could easily see him being as good as a Fabregas if he concentrated on staying on his feet .

Exactly people attack Gerrard for not performing for England. Messi, Kaka and C.Ronaldo have but in world class performances on a consistently basis for both club and country, but Fabregas hasn't caught the at international level. Fabregas made his debut for Spain roughly at the same time as Andres Iniesta and Sergio Ramos. But look who's the least impact Ramos (right-back): 3 goals, Iniesta: 5 goals, Fabregas 0 goals

It's the other way round. I agree that there is no talent in England National Team
by Munashe on November 25, 2007
England has the talent. Look at the Actim Index and you will notice that they have a player in every category. Unless we are suggesting that the prmiership is inferior to other leagues. We are surprised of all people Benjani is leading the scorers?? I know its very controversial but those in Zimbabwe know really well that he is not the best player that Zimbabwe has. He is just richer than the likes of Esrom Nyandoro,Kingston Nkata and some young stars back there.

i really agreed the editor of the article. anybody knows and can even discover what feb does for his club and his national team but gerrard and rooney especially is still invissble. the media in england is the problem for english players. ever never english player will go to world class plyer while their local praise is full in hands.

if i was Arsene wenger i would accept the job because england is a nice country it last won it's world cup maybe in 1994 i think, wenger should just take the job to prove that he is a coach who is not scared of situations as he decided to be a coach and he should prove to other coaches that he is better coach he should not be scared because many of england players have retired wenger is the right man for the job
