Yes, Arsenal are running away with the title; yes, they have an almost perfect squad. And yes, they are also the subject of more rumours than you can shake a stick at. Here goes the latest set of players supposedly on Arsene's wish list.

First off we have Goran Pandev, Lazio's impressive creative attacker. Wenger apparently attempted to quash rumours of a bid for the 24-year-old Macedonian by stating "Pandev? Yes, I know him. No, we're not looking for anybody at the moment" (various). But this hasn't stopped people talking about a potential £15m move for him.

The second portion of the trio who could, although more likely won't, be making a move to the Emirates is Arsenal old boy Nicolas Anelka for the sum of around £20m (various). These rumours have increased followinga candid statement by the Bolton man, who said: "If you look now at the situation Arsenal are in and look at where I am, then you could say maybe I should have stayed.

''I have heard about the rumours involving Atletico Madrid and maybe Barcelona, too, but formally I know nothing'' - Xabi Alonso

''Of course, I would like to play in that team. Which striker wouldn't like to be part of a team that plays such amazing football? But the way they are playing, who's to say I'd even get in that team?"

Well, that's about as subtle as a sledgehammer. I have heard of 'come and get me' pleas but this one is practically begging. The French international does make a good point, though - would he even get in the team? What do Gunners fans think?

Third, it's that old favourite Luka Modric, whose move to north London has been the subject of more speculation than most and now his agent has fanned the flames a little more by claiming his player if the best midfielder in the world. I guess that's part of his job, but does he really believe it? You decide - here's what Italian agent Sabatino Durante had to say:

"He is an extraordinary player, the best midfield player in the world that exists. People talk forever about Frank Lampard, but you must realise that this is a boy born in '85 who already has more than 35 appearances with the Croatian national team. This player can do everything. I'm surprised a team like AC Milan, which has opened doors in Croatia, has not thought of this player. Certainly today you'd have to pay £15 million for him."

So there you have it the third and final part of the £50m trio. Will any of these players actually move to Arsenal? I would say that Modric is the most likely, but does Arsene even need to buy anyone, anyway?

Liverpool's
Spanish star Xabi Alonso looks set to leave Anfield to return to La Liga in an effort to get regular first-team football (Mail on Sunday). Alonso, 26, admitted: "I have heard about the rumours involving Atletico Madrid and maybe Barcelona, too, but formally I know nothing. My objective is to be 100 per cent fit for the decisive moments to come in both the Premier League and Champions League. I also want to play for Spain at Euro 2008 so want to get the necessary minutes on the field."

I guess that is the crucial point, lack of first-team football. Injuries and team selection have reduced the midfielder to just six starts this season and it looks like his Liverpool days could be numbered. Atletico seem the most likely destination, and Chelsea, Man United and Man City are said to be keeping close tabs on Xabi. But the most important question is do Liverpool fans want to keep hold of him?

Tottenham boss Juande Ramos has admitted he will not try to keep strikers at the club who wish to move elsewhere. He said:  "I'd like to keep all my strikers here but it is up to each player to make an analysis of his situation. I think they'll be happy and comfortable here, but they have to make the decision. If we have to share out the minutes, they may not be able to play all the minutes that they would wish."

This has led to talk of a possible player swap with Manchester United (various). The first rumour involves an exchange involving Dimitar Berbatov and Louis Saha and involves Spurs getting extra cash as part of the deal. The second swap, and I hasten to add this is pure speculation on the part of some over eager journalists, would be a straight swap between Saha and Jermain Defoe.

These rumours have apparently stemmed from the fact that a) United's French striker is woefully off form, with only one goal from open play in the Premier League all year, and b) apparently the former Fulham man longs for a return to London. What do United and Tottenham fans think of these ridiculous suggestions?

Finally, we come to another White Hart Lane striker, this time faltering Darren Bent who has struggled to justify his £16m price tag. Now it appears that West Ham may be thinking of making a cheeky bid for the England international (various).

Alan Curbishley wanted to re-unite with former Charlton charge in the summer but Bent, 23, opted for north and not east London. Curbs revealed: "Darren wanted to go to Spurs, he felt that was the right move for him - but he would have played regularly if he had come to West Ham. He is not used to missing out. He played every game at Ipswich and Charlton."

Now it has emerged on the grapevine that West Ham might make an £8m bid for the Cambridge-born hit man. Would Ramos turn that down?
