The FA are apparently prepared to offer Jose Mourinho an incredible £6m a season to become the new England boss (various) But the powers that be in Soho Square will have to move fast to land Mourinho or risk losing him Real Madrid (Daily Mirror).
Now if you were already reasonably well-placed financially, which job would you take, given that the salaries will be similar, one where thick planks (aka sports journalists) are peeking into your lavatory window in the snow or one with one of the most prestigious clubs in the world, in a sunny climate?
Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill is adamant that he does not want the England job (Daily Express). For the reason, see above under Mourinho.
Reading boss Steve Coppell believes the next manager of the national team should be English - but has ruled himself out of the job (Daily Telegraph). Again, see above under Mourinho and add into the mix that he is not exactly pushing his club side to the heights like last year.
Former Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd is talking with Ken Bates to buy a stake in Leeds United (Daily Mirror). Nope, this is not the return of the Hammer Studios’ horror film series, although it could be classed as the football equivalent thereof. This rumour reminds me of the fella who goes into the butcher who points to two pieces of meat on hooks on the wall: “Bet you can’t guess exactly what those those pieces of meat are.” “Don’t want to.” “Why not?” “The stakes are too high.”
And while we are on a pun run, did you hear about the barber commissioned to cut the Duke of Edinburgh's hair? He got the Palace gates in his car and the security guy said: "What's your business here, sir?" "I've come to cut the Duke of Edinburgh's hair." "Have you got a permit?" "No, just a straight short back and sides."
West Ham boss Alan Curbishley is ready to offload Bobby Zamora for £4m in January (Daily Mirror). I’m certainly not in a position to advise Curbs on who to buy or sell but I would have thought that if push comes to shove and West Ham are involved in a possible relegation threat, Zamora is just the kind of striker the boss needs in the locker room. And these days, £4m buys you a spotty 16-year-old and not much more.
Joey Barton says Newcastle's demanding supporters are ‘scaring’ the players into poor performances (various). For Barton-related items, please see Hammer Films reference above. And it seems a tad unfair to blame the fans as they are the people who pay the players’ wages, so shouldn’t they be entitled to have their say?
Manager Rafa Benitez's future is still uncertain despite apparently ending his feud with Liverpool's American owners (Daily Express). Great news for we gossip junkies, we’ll have endless options for the England and Liverpool jobs. And maybe some of our ‘gossipees’ will be candidates for both!
Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp wants film toughie and fellow East Ender Ray Winstone to play him in a film of his life (Mirror). Good call, we could extend it to other football personalities: Sven Goran-Eriksson played by Errol Flynn, Wayne Rooney by George Formby, Peter Crouch by the team that built Frankenstein, Frank Lampard’s England career by the Invisible Man and Stuart Pearce by, er Stuart Pearce and not Anthony Perkins.

£4m for Zamora i'd bite your hand off, as for relegation zone what planet are you on, theres more chance of my uncle Bill shagging my Auntie Doreen and shes been dead 10 years.

Like the first post I would bite your hand off at £4M. He has been a good servant for WHU but he isn't a premiership player. Let Fulham or Portsmouth have him. He will do well for them and I would wish him well but when he is fit unless there are injuries, I wouldn't expect him to be in contention. Good luck Bobby

Relegation battle for the hammers? What drugs are you on mate,Chelsea barely got a win against us today with an offside goal, our form considering the injuries we've had,and with players coming back and the transfer window,relegation?...I don't think so mate.Get alife

Guys...... Bobby Zamora seems to score more goals than the rest of your so called great strikers!!! i dont think you will meet relegation but hes a good option and a squad player... you need these options in the premier league... ps.. thanks for taking Dyer off our hands!!! haha sick note!!!

Newcastle are a joke at the moment! Joey Barton has no right to say we the fans are scaring the players into poor performances, they the players are sh*te, we got rid of the dead wood, (quoting BIG SAM) and now have even more dead wood, WE SHOULD keep JAMES MILNER and get rid of every other player, and BIG SAM, and put on the reserve team (squad) until January, then buy a brand new team with PETER BEARDSLEY as manager or PHIL SCOLARI!! Barton said and I quote "Scott Parker, Patrick Kluivert and Jermaine Jenas were scared of poor performances" unquote, that is why they left the club. What a crock of sh*te, we cashed in is what we did, at a time when they were still worth a few bob!!

ha , west ham in Europe, absolute garbage, lets hope and pray your little pikey club do go down, and the bald guy looses interest. Only room for one Claret Blue in the premiership.
ps.. thanks for taking Dyer off our hands!!! haha sick note!!!
you're welcome, it was the least we could do after you bought Joey Barton so that we couldn't (even though Curbs wanted us to at the time). I'd rather have a great player recovering in a hospital bed than the brother of a racist murderer on the pitch, blaming the fans for his own poor performance, starting fights with his team mates etc.

Got to give big sam a chance at least two seasons if you keep hounding your mangers out you aint going no place but down, as lucky to get a draw wham, derby had a miller goal ruled out for off side against Chelski so coming close to a draw aint gonna save ya, although the race to go down seems to be turning into a 4 or 5 team race, europe though cant see that, unless you go through on the fair play draw ;)

As for suggesting West Ham might be involved in a relegation battle, er I think you'll find Spurs and N'Castle have got more chance of being involved in anything like that you clown. And Newcastle fans, yes Joey Barton is a wrong'un but you lot are the self-proclaimed "best fans in the world" and that is the joke. Yes you turn out in your numbers but to do what? Boo the team or manager most of the time. And where were these infamous fans at Palermo away, I've got pictures on my computer of the same away section at Palermo when West Ham played them and when your mob played them and your "best fans in the land" malarkey dont hold much water when you look at them side by side, I think you'll find some of the best fans come from East London chaps.

I know you don't tolerate personal abuse, but sometimes your writers really tempt me. Real Madrid named a new manager this season. They are 4 points clear at the top of the Spanish league so do you really think even they would sack him now. For goodness sake, I know you want to write Mourinho stories but please don't insult our intelligence.

I don't think Curbs will be looking to sell Bobby Zamora in January, not because he fears he might need him in a relegation fight (hopefully unlikely), but because he needs four or five strikers to ensure he has two or three fit and in form at any one time. So, he shouldn't be thinking of off-loading Bobby, unless he knows he is going to bring in a very much better replacement. Perhaps he's already got someone lined up?
