Just bcos spurs arent having a good season and these players arent playing so well doesnt mean that they should not be considered!!! Robbo - A bargain from leeds at what 2mil? Lennon - Another bargain from leads and a world class winger in the making again around 2 mill? Robbie Keane! - 7mill at teh time seemed a fair price but looking backl what a bargain!! Keano is the greatest 2nd top scorer with the team thats 16th! And one for the future Gareth Bale- 5mil now 5 mil l8r ok 10 mil is alot but this guy is sh*t hot absolute wonder kid any team in the country would love him and welcome him with open arms!

He may be a legend at Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs or Manchester United - or perhaps he plays for "less successful" clubs Newcastle, Aston Villa, Everton, Celtic, Rangers, Manchester City, West Ham or Blackburn. We want YOUR final choice.
by Ozi on December 03, 2007
I'd have to say Toure for 150k in the current transfer market is about as good as you can get. I'd say Cesc equalls that but he wsnt paid for so he wasnt really a buy, more of a find. Samba and Nelson would be up their, as would Cahill but actually on second thoughts it wpuld have to be Darren Bent!
by Graham Wandrag on December 03, 2007
Has to be Nicolas Anelka - bought by arsene Wenger for 500,000 and sold less than thirty months later for 22.3 million. In between he helped Arsenal win The Double
by JJ on December 03, 2007
for me it's Viera. He was instrumental to their success and was less than a million.
by C on December 03, 2007
The claim that Aaron Lennon is a world class winger is probably the funniest thing i have ever heard in my life, however i do agree he was a bit of a bargain, but he does not come anywhere near world class. 2 mill for Robbo is a bargain for the good years he had at you, but look at him now! Keane is a fantastic player but 7mill is not a bargain for him & Gareth Bale definitely shows alot fo potentially and is a great player for his age but 10mill is hardly a bargain for him and can barely be justified as even a fair price. As long as he stays fit though I think he will fufill his £10mill price tag. You Spurs fans are SO-BLOODY-DELIRIOUS its untrue!!!!!!!!!!

Agree with Paul McGrath to Villa and just about every Arsene Wenger signing (apart from franny Jeffers), but can't believe no ones mentioned Cantona or Schmeichel! Man Utd wouldn't be the team they are today without them.
by Spurs125 on December 03, 2007
Vieira wasn't under a million? he cost £3.5 from Milan although that's still great business. Cantona @ £1m from Leeds, Anelka @ £500k just for the profit the scum made on him, but as a Spurs fan it has to be Jimmy Greaves @ £99,999 from Milan

by Wayne buchanan on December 03, 2007
Really hate to say it but Henrik Larrson has got to be the best buy ever and as a Rangers fan it shows how much quality the boy had for us to think he has possibley been the greatest player to play in the Scottish premier League
by Jimbob on December 03, 2007
How can it be anyone other than Eric Cantona. £1m transformed ManU into what they are now and led the way for all the others. I am a Spurs fan and hoped I could say Darren Bent but for now it hasn't happened like I would have hoped.
by Markobhoy on December 03, 2007
Henrik Larsson. Not only was he exemplary on the park and off it, he's a blinding golfer too! Proved, if he actually needed to, how good he was when he went to Barca and excelled. Last season Sir Alex Ferguson showed his respect for the greatest player to bless these islands by signing him to get through the bumpy injury ride. Again, the wee man excelled and you can only sit, laugh and point at those who missed out on seeing him at the top of his game. Regarding Bergkamp, as great as he was, he couldn't lace Henrik's boots. Especially considering Henrik cost Celtic £600k, the only one who came close to being a bargain of this magnitude was Cantona. (And I am no Manchester United fan!)
by Danboo on December 03, 2007
I think Wengers buy and then sell on of Anelka at an extraordinary profit was a stunning bit of business but overall - Larsson - who was bought for less tnan a million. He more or less can claim sole responsibility for at least 2 of Celtics titles, maybe even 3.Celtic were elevated into a pretty damn good team due to him.
by Les on December 03, 2007
but frankly they are and always have been a bunch of coonts, every single one of them. We bought a Caravan once from a car boot coz we are all pikeys at heart, good deal. Tarmac, 100 yards of tarmac I bought once, now that was a bargin.

The Great Dane was responsible for saving Manchester United around 12 points per season on average more than any other keeper. Simply the best and bought for peanuts.

I thought he was a good piece of business. Right up there with the recent triple swoop for Gravesen, Jar-o-sick and Vinegar of Castlemilk. Flo was a bargain compared to those business dealings.
by 1961 on December 03, 2007
Everyone bangs on about how Wenger is the shrewdest manager around and never makes any mistakes and as hard it is for a Tottenham fan to admit it's true, great signings like Jeffers @ $10m, remember David Seamans replacement Rami Shaaban? Then there was the man known as the Horse Oleg Luzhnyi, a horse alright! Boa Morte, Tavlaridis, Vivas, Malz, Christopher Wreh, and even Senderos after all these years still looks a great player. The man just doesn't make mistakes!
by John Ilovespurs on December 03, 2007
For the best buys you don't need to look beyond the current Spurs team. Back to front we've got the best signings anyone's ever made for any team ever. Our team is so great. And we're the most successful and biggest team in the country too. End of story!
by james on December 03, 2007
It has to be eric cantona going to man utd! he was a catalyst for their success.
by Bob on December 03, 2007
this question for me is about price, ability and how far the players have come along since their transfer. toure is a great shout. lennon went for a small fee from leeds and despite not being a world beater yet he is a premiership standard player. cantona at 1m was a steal. cahill and arteta should be in the mix as well, especially in modern times. cahill cost 2m, arteta 2.2m, how much are they worth now?

WITHOUT DOUBT THE BEST BUY OF ALL TIME, THE KING OF KINGS, HENRIK LARSSON
by Nozzy on December 03, 2007
Best buy EVER? Thats a long time. And the nominees? ZOLA?? BERGKAMP??? CANTONA??? DI CANIO??? LARSSON?? KEVIN FUCKING PHILLIPS???? Did Kanwar write this article as well?!?! Can we have at least one half decent article on this god foresaken site? Greaves, Dalglish, Maradona, those sort of players. Please lets have some half decent suggestion. Kolo Toure, good grief.
by Jenkins on December 03, 2007
You're an idoit. Don't like..don't read it then. People are putting in their opinions across, regardless of what yours is! Kevin Phillips to Sunderland 500k was a great return...baring in mind he scored 65 league goals in the 2 seasons after that, is still the only englishman to win the European Golden Boot and also one of the few to score 30 goals in the prem. That IS a great buy. Maybe YOU should start talking some sense...fool.
[quote][quote][quote][quote]There is not another Club in the world more successful than Rangers. No not a 'great' buy, it was a good buy. These are all 'good' buys. Hyypia, Finnan, Riise, McCallister, Hamann, Henchoz etc. etc. all 'good' buys. Henry. Good buy. Vieira. Good buy. Pires, Ljungberg etc. etc. You need to be able to differentiate between good and great. Great buys would be bargains that delivered all over the place. Kevin Phillips? Has he ever won a single trophy? Phil Neal, signed from Northampton for buttons. Won 50 England caps, 7 League Championships and 4 European Cups. Kenny Dalglish, widely regarded as the 2nd if not best British player ever. Alan Hansen. Graeme Souness. All players from one club from one decade. GREAT signings. Now can we have a tiny bit of sense and stop making absolutely ridiculous statements like Kevin Phillips.

your stars represent league titles not , as ours does, a european cup and as you were formed 15 years before us that's not exactly something to be shouting about now is it? the star on the shirt should represent european cups won, as it does by almost al The stars above the badge was started by Juventus after they won their 10th serie A title but hey don't let facts get in the way of your thinking.I blame the schools.

by Marco Van Beastin' on December 04, 2007
Taking into consideration, his price when we bought him, 650k and his contribution over those incredible 7 years at Celtic, that makes him best bargain ever...but not to be outdone, Barcelona get him for FREE and it was the King that won the CL Cup for Barcelona when he came on against Arsenal and set up both goals...but that's not done, he then goes to Helsingborg for FREE and maintains his incredible goal scoring record, also goes to Man Utd for peanuts (or was it FREE?) and helped them through a bad patch. Larsson was also magnificent at National level too, not that money is involved there. The perfect footballer and model professional, Henrik Larsson.

Lets be honest here when we say stefan klos was an outstanding goalkeeper, as instrumental to rangers as larrson was to celtic. and at 700 thousand pounds he has to be up there...... also andy goram who went on to be one of the best goalkeepers ever but i go with stefan klos as being the best bargain considering he had just won the champions league a couple of years b4 rangers landed him. along with larsson who was bought at round about the same price i would say both were unbelievable buys.
