Liverpool continued their blistering form with a solid thrashing of Bolton at the weekend. The team have been playing out of their socks for their embattled manager as he continues his quest to have the final say in who comes and goes at Anfield. Rightfully so, because inevitably he will be the one working with the players on a day-to-day basis, and those players have joined in the chorus of his importance to the Liverpool cause. Fernando Torres admitted at the post-Bolton press conference that he will have to plan for the future elsewhere if Rafa is shown the door. A lot has been said in recent weeks by rival supporters about Manchester United being Liverpool’s benchmark. And after Bolton killed off the Red Devils last week, I was shaking with nervous anticipation that Liverpool were going to lose 1- 0 to them as well. Luckily, this myth was blown away as reality kicked in. So much for United being the benchmark. While 4 -0 may reflect that it was all a bit one-way traffic against Wanderers, it could easily have been 8-0, such was the consistency of the Anfield attack. Harry Kewell, starting only his second Premier League game of the season, showed he is worthy of a contract extension when his deal runs out at the end of the year. The telepathic connection he shares with Torres, Peter Crouch and Steven Gerrard shows that he is an important component in Rafa’s plans for a solid title push.
Ryan Babel is a rising star – one for both the future and present – and he could learn a lot from Kewell who, at 29, should be at the peak of his career and needs to get more starts to hit full stride. His long absence due to injury means it feels as if Liverpool have signed a new player – and with the new owners’ miserly approach, the Reds might just have to imagine him to be one! Another source of continued irritation is the label that Liverpool are a one-man team, and that if Gerrard were not playing we would struggle. While it is the envy of every team in the world to have Gerrard pulling the strings, the Reds have proved that they can win without him.
Most Man Utd supporters seem to suffer from short-term memory loss and their envy and jealousy seems to cloud their judgment. The label 'one-man team' could not be more true than with the Devils’ themselves. Ronaldo United scored another brace last night in the 2-0 win over Fulham at Old Trafford.
He was rested against Bolton and they lost. He started against Sporting Lisbon and scored the winning goal in extra time. Wayne Rooney is good, but judging by last night one has to ask the age old question ... is he the most over-rated player in the world? Apart from those two moments of Cristiano magic, Fulham were bullying United for large periods and the real one-man team was plain for all to see.
Back to a club in full flow, and Liverpool saw Sami Hyypia score his first Premier League goal of the season. against Bolton. But the highlight was a 50-yard through ball from Gerrard which saw Torres out-run his marker and duly slot home with a deft dink over Jussi Jaaskelainen. Gerrard scored from the penalty spot and Babel is proving to be the super sub of note – he has now scored three goals coming off the bench this season. All in all, a great result, keeping in mind due to United benchmark standards Liverpool were supposed to lose 1-0.You decide, who is in fact the real one-man team – December 16 is going to prove more than just three points for sure.

how can u say ryan babel is a rising star? he's a crap. he cant even run past through defenders and barely delivered a good cross. the whole world know liverpool depends on gerrard. so why dont we try this out. stop playing gerrard for one or two games and we'll see if liverpool can win without him.haha

Clearly a Liverpool bias view. Yes Ronaldo scored both the goals last night, but did you see how many chances they created? You can't call Man United a one man team just because 1 player scored 2 goals in one match. So what if he didn't play against Bolton, neither did Scholes (who is arguably United's best player) or Rooney. Take Liverpool's best three players out, and see what happens then! Next time Liverpool win 1v0 a Gerrard scores the only goal, do you think everyone will be saying Liverpool are a one man team?

Rooneys been out for almost a month - was first game back you nob jockey. You seem to be forgetting Vidic Ferdinand Giggs Scholes etc etc etc. UNITED had half a team against Bolton. You fail tom mention that in ur gashest of articles. Odds on LIverpool f***in it up and slipping 20 points below UNITED by end of season as always?

Gerrard was injured earlier in the season with his toe injury remember? We still didn't lose and wrecked up the 6-0 voctory WITHOUT our brilliant Skipper Here are few statistics to close the case with: Liverpool last three games goal distribution: Newcastle 0-3 Liverpool ( Gerrard, Babel, Kuyt ) Liverpool – Porto ( Torres (2),Gerrard, Crouch ) Liverpool 4- 0 Bolton ( Hyppia, Torres,Gerrard,Babel ) Now Manchester United : Man Utd 2-1 Sporting Lisbon( Tevez, C.Ronaldo last minute winner ) Bolton 1- 0 Man Utd ( C.Ronaldo rested ) Man Utd 2-0 Fulham ( C.Ronaldo, 2 Goals) Enough Said

Ok to the first comment, if memory serves me correctly liverpool were without gerarrd already this season and didn't have any problems, whereas utd on the other hand due to ronaldos red card at portsmouth lost that one and went through a blip at the start of the season where they struggled. Now I won't say they're a one man team but they do definitely rely on ronaldo big time and if he was to get injured I don't know if they would continue in such fine form. Ps If you can't see any talent in babel you really haven't a clue.

You seem to forget that Arsenal...Are they a one man team? I don't think so. Man U and Liverpool rely more on individual players (who scores the goals doesn't bolster your argument, it is about how you play) so lets talk about Arsenal for a second. We are brilliant.

aaaarrrrr did we touch a nerve? so sad these Manu(re) fans are so deluded they cant see how their own team plays. never mind.

Odds on for liverpool to be some 20 points behind Man Utd, I'll take your price on offer for £10k. I think that its fare to say all teams rely on their best players, including Arsenal (fabragas), Man Utd (CH), Liverpool (SG), Man city (Elano) etc.. Both Man utd and Liverpool have some way to go, before we can close the gap on Arsenal. As a liverpool supporter, i would be happy with us just closing the gap on the top 2 teams. Fact is that even though we have ended up around third and fourth over the last few seasons, we have been closer to the bottom teams then the top (according to points).. Slowly were putting together a team that can challange..

Liverpool are indeed a one man team. Without Gerrard this season, they won 6-0 (Derby), 4-2 (Reading). On the other hand, without C Ronaldo, Man U did fantastically well. Err maybe not YNWA
Seems utd fans don't like facing the truth, tevez and rooney looking like the best strikers in the world not three weeks ago, tevez couldn't score in a brothel without rooney beside him(to point out the grannies). Is it just coincedental that utds form without ronaldo in the team is sh1te.

dude what ur really sayin is stevie g is not as influencial as he used to be while playing for liverpool.the team certainly rely on torres to win games. i figure the team landed into the champions league mess when he was injured. i think u should look at your team more closely before u go on attackin other teams. and btw way when man utd had a blip in the beginin of the season they had close to 11 first team players out injured.and we were still able to grind out wins. i wonder how many pts liverpool would have if they were in united s position.
nobber was the heading. youre well stupid. glad to see you scousers have learned how to type though

Both Ronaldo and Gerrard are great players and would be important fo rany team they would play in. And to say United is a one-man-team is just a laugh. Both Nani and Anderson are far more promising then Babel.

Being a Liverpool fan, i admit that we still have some way to go. However, having watched manure several times this season deffo a one man team. They look ordinary without undoubtedly one of the most tallented players in the world. Take Ronaldo out and they wont qualify for the CL.
by mask on December 04, 2007
stupid article by a scouser himself suffering from long-term memory loss...the mere mention of the last three games doesnt sum up the performance of a team...but then, cant expect more from a dipper
Out of all the footy supporters i know, the Manure ones are Tossers. Watching manure loose is better than sex.
