Harry Kewell fit and on the top of his game is world class, if fact I'd have no other left midfielder over Kewell when he is on fire. He is a world-class talent blighted by injury.
As a few people have pointed out, he gives us balance on the left wing. He's an out and out winger, and despite his loss of pace he has the intellegence and control to somewhat compensate for it. The fact that he can control the ball whilst running means he can still put players on the back foot, as we saw in the Porto game leading to Torres' second. Yossi Benayoun will float around and move from wing to central positions, so we have different 'possibilities' with these two. I still think another quality wide player is needed, though.
If that was his best performance in years, it proves how preposterous attaching the "world class" tag is to him. Someone actually said he created two goals! He hit a square ball to Torres, who did the rest. What an assist. I rate Kewell, but we need someone better than him at right or left.

While its good to have Kewell back for options on the left, sadly, he is a shadow of the players at Leeds Utd. He does'nt seem to have that ability to beat players easily and the extra creativity in his younger days. I think Rafa needs to accept he is past it and move on. There would be no point in extending his contract and would only prolong a career that has come to an end at the top level. Ryan Babel needs to be given a role in the side on the left to help his confidence. It is clear Babel has poor confidence levels and needs encouragement. Undoubtly he has ability. I have seen his clips from YouTube which show a player with decent ability. Time for Harry to move on......

Not the same player due to his injurys I'm afraid. He's lost some of his pace, but is looking more & more match fit by the game. I'd like Rafa to sign either 1 or 2 left wingers in january, possibly Riera & Drenthe, & move Kewell to his favoured position, just off the main front man. In his last season at Leeds in 31 league games he scored 14 goals. He has a GREAT left foot & is BRILLIANT in the air too. He's also fantastic at linking up the play, so we can afford to lose Crouch as we have Kewell, Babel, Torres, Kuyt & Voronin upfront. Would love to see us sign Mancini to play on the right also.

Whenever Kewell plays, we have a balance through the team and therefore a confidence to play football. He may have lost the pace, but is still brilliant technically; look at players like Giggs or Sheringham - never lightning fast, but quick in the head. If we can get 25 games out of him this season, give him a yearly contract cos he will deserve it
