Video replays can prevent confusion, provide accuracy and instal fair play within the game.

FIFA and UEFA are constantly trying to encourage 'fair play' yet they allow unfair play on the field, including cheating and unexplainable decision-making by officials when there is evidence readily available.

If officials miss an incident involving violent conduct, then the individuals involved are disciplined after the game - usually getting a ban and/or a fine. Why is this logic not applied to those individuals who are diving and cheating the officials? Slap a three-game ban on divers and watch the number of incidents reduce!

'TV pundits are extremely biased towards their old clubs and they only add to the controversy'

Why are we scared to move on with technology in football as other sports are leaving us behind? Has rugby suffered since the introduction of video replays? We don't need to view every incident, only major ones like penalties and goal-line issues.

Why not allow each manager three video replays per game? If they use them all up and something goes against them, then it's tough luck.

With this we need to be careful as I watch some games and I can’t help but think either the officials are biased towards one team or they are just power-mad and throw cards around for next to nothing. Maybe the officials should be punished when they get something wrong? Has anyone ever won an appeal against a red card?

Most major incidents involve some sort of 'pick on the referee' moment. By the time the ref has calmed everything down, the decision on the video is boring the TV audience so I really cannot see how it will slow the game down.

Too many times per season mistakes are made and more often than not it is the smaller clubs are the ones being punished. I really love football but something needs to be done to stop the protection of the bigger clubs.

All Premier League football matches are televised and a panel of ex-players and TV pundits scrutinise every event. Unfortunately, the players are extremely biased towards their old clubs and they only add to the controversy. But any neutral can quickly see via a replay the correct result of the incident in question. Let's move forward and put this long debate to bed.

So in a nutshell here are the pros and cons:

PROS

  • · It will bring instant justice to every controversial incident.
  • · Fair play guaranteed.
  • · A new buzz of excitement to the fans – waiting for the result like in cricket and tennis.
  • · Officials can be overruled.
  • · More progress for England in major tournaments (OK, I am pushing my luck here).

CONS

  • · No more arguing and debate over an incident.
  • · No more articles like this.
  • · No more controversy.
  • · No power from the officials.
