Home > Football > Video replays would put an end to dodgy refereeing decisions

Video replays can prevent confusion, provide accuracy and instal fair play within the game. FIFA and UEFA are constantly trying to encourage 'fair play' yet they allow unfair play on the field, including cheating and unexplainable decision-making by officials when there is evidence readily available. If officials miss an incident involving violent conduct, then the individuals involved are disciplined after the game - usually getting a ban and/or a fine. Why is this logic not applied to those individuals who are diving and cheating the officials? Slap a three-game ban on divers and watch the number of incidents reduce!
Why are we scared to move on with technology in football as other sports are leaving us behind? Has rugby suffered since the introduction of video replays? We don't need to view every incident, only major ones like penalties and goal-line issues. Why not allow each manager three video replays per game? If they use them all up and something goes against them, then it's tough luck.
With this we need to be careful as I watch some games and I can’t help but think either the officials are biased towards one team or they are just power-mad and throw cards around for next to nothing. Maybe the officials should be punished when they get something wrong? Has anyone ever won an appeal against a red card?
Most major incidents involve some sort of 'pick on the referee' moment. By the time the ref has calmed everything down, the decision on the video is boring the TV audience so I really cannot see how it will slow the game down.

first things first, we dont ned it, second, the big team would use it to bully the small teams and third its not the answer, big teams with agressive player (like gallas for rsenal or terry for chelsea or keane in his day at united) would use it to syop play ever time the game went against them you would remove common sence from the game of the referee and lets face it this sort of technology is not affordable by grass routes football teams and arguable even in conference and division 2 teams, what is needed is firstly maybe goal line technology which automatically achnologes goals crossing the line, 2. 4 assistant referees (more human eyes) and 3. the fa to back its referess and not hang the out to dry like they did with graham pole, he was finished after hetangled with chelsea, the first time when 6 football players all went round the ref and shouted at him he game them all yellows for unsporting behaviour to the ref and if any were already on a yeallow went off that would sort it, but lets face it chelse
would though there millions at the situation a horde of under handed lawyers would be called in and the ref again will no longer be able to ref there games and at the end of the season be forced to retire

First, I think that FIFA and UEFA are against technology and using the argument of consistency to shoot down all of these initiatives because it is simply too expensive and contrary to profit maximization objectives. Sepp Blatter is running a conservative, doctrinal dictatorship buying support from small federations. The truth is that African nations cannot afford the type of technology commonly used in North America and why spend more money on international competition when bids for TV rights are at an all time high. That would be wasted money! Italians will argue that it would interfere with nice backroom discussions with refs. Asian betting syndicates will also argue against it since it makes bribing more difficult (I cannot believe a second that refs are not constantly solicited considering the amount of money involved) Now taking a different angle ... does technology works in other sports? Does it interfere with the flow of the game? The answer is a resounding yes! Rugby introduced video with gre
