Silly spud, chairman never lie do they? Berbas agents remarks?
by scott on December 31, 2007
Yes, i didnt when i read the title, but come to think of it, how many times have spurs brought players that just wasnt worth spending the money on. We are back in form now and 2008 is looking promising, we dont need any new players coming in just yet and mixing it all up. We just need to focus on our league postion now, work our way back up the table and hopfully get 6 postion for uefa. As for feddie coming back to the lane. i wouldnt bother, not worth 17.5 milion, O and please levy dont sign stewart downing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Silly spud, chairman never lie do they? Berbas agents remarks?
Yes......and what of those remarks? Berbatov is under contract at Tottenham. Tottenham are loaded. They don't need to sell. They know that they have no chance of replacing Berbatov with a player of similar quality in January. And they also know that the last four and a half months of this season will be vital. The FA Cup, the latter stages of the UEFA Cup, the Carling Cup semi finals. Not to mention the Premiership, where there is now a realistic (if still challenging) chance of qualifying for the UEFA Cup via the league. Berbatov will be needed for all of those if Spurs are to salvage something from a season that started so poorly. For the moment, at least, Spurs hold all the cards. Berba cannot move elsewhere if Levy and Ramos insist that he stays. Only in the summer, when Berba will have only two years left on his contract, will Spurs allow him to go.
Your right, he can be made to stay, but imagine if one of the big teams his agents claims he's after come calling, and are told where to go. If it's a team he thinks has a chance at silverware, and he's denied, what will he be like? I like Berbatov, how he plays, his teamwork, but all his qualities are over ruled by his penchant for a good sulk. Can you imagine letting go of Defoe and maybe Bent, and being left with someone akin to (young) Anelka or V.Hoojdonk? If he REALLY wants to go, it could be better to get an insane price for him now, rather than ship him out later, at a reduced price, because he's spent the season moping. A valid point?

A valid point?
If it was the summer window that was upon us, you'd be quite right. But since it is the January window, the cons of selling Berba now far outweigh the pros. Tottenham will get top dollar for Berbatov, even if they wait until the summer. He will not go for a penny less than £25 million - and more likely £30 million. But selling Berba in January could be the difference between qualifying for Europe or not and even winning silverware or not. Failure to qualify for the UEFA Cup would, on the basis of last season's UEFA Cup revenues, cost the club in excess of £10 million. Therefore, the financial risk is far greater for Spurs if they were to sell Berba now. Which makes it a no brainer for Levy that Berba stays.

Berbatov is a remarkable talent, contracted to Tottenham. If as suggested in the press, he is on Man U's wish list. We are in the driving seat, he is our player. How about a swap, Berbatov for Ronaldo, plus £5 million. That will make Alex's eyes water.

if we have to sell berbatov buy kitson and barry both quality both spurs fans
by mr_nice on December 31, 2007
Very odd how nobody notices (except me it seems!) that every january window see's the same thing come out of the club that they wont be buying or selling. Jol used to do it, or Levy (whoever is buying the players that month) and it's the same thing every year and yet there is still many people who see the article and start thinking about it as if they believe it! Astonishing, even more so when you consider they have actually already signed somebody for when the window opens. So they sign someone then say they wont be signing anyone and people start writing articles based on it? Hilarious really.
if we have to sell berbatov buy kitson and barry both quality both spurs fans
Both Spurs fans, maybe, but neither is quite good enough for a team with genuine aspirations to break into the top four. Barry is an excellent player but would not hold down a starting position in a top four midfield. Kitson is another level below that. Decent player but not for any club that wishes to finish above mid table.

He didn't say that Spurs would make no signings in January. He said: "...we are not looking at any MAJOR changes. We are all clear that the January window is the worst time to buy quality players so we shall not be doing any business that is not ESSENTIAL." Gunter hardly qualifies as a "major change". We have yet to see what Levy means by "esse

Spurs as a club should stand firm and not give into idle talk from players agents , if berba wants to go we should get every penny we can for him we made him a superstar surely he should show some loyalty to the fans and board and players who without he would be still a bit part playerv in germany , I call on daniel levy to keep his word and not sell our best players ,

if berbatov wants to leave then let him go,especially if we can double our dough on him.yes he is a quality player but when things are going against us he sulks and just walks about moaning.if we get 20m for him, that dough could go on at least one quality defender.we still have defoe who has shown maturity and loyalty despite always being on the bench, sometimes behind the useless bent! in summary, keep people who want to play for spurs.the ones that dont get rid!
