Could it be a sick joke? With Ryan Giggs nearing the end of his Old Trafford career and Cristiano Ronaldo being courted by Real Madrid, Manchester United are going to be after wingers. This is where Harry Kewell comes into the equation. Yes, according to some of the rumour mongers, the Liverpool man is being eyed up by Sir Alex as a potential free signing come the summer (various).

Now I am not sure if this was baked up at a drink-fuelled New Year’s Eve bash, but the idea is frankly mind-boggling. Even if you ignore Kewell's frankly stupendous bouts of loss of form, coupled with lengthy injuries, you still have to take into account that the Aussie would struggle to get into the first team at United.

In his defence, he has improved this season, but he is still more often than not out of the game for long periods. I doubt very much he will get a new contract from Rafa, so I expect a move to a mid-table club - perhaps Middlesbrough, might fork out his astronomical wages. Apparently Manchester City, Newcastle, Everton, Celtic and Rangers are all thinking about giving the 29-year-old a career re-birth.

'God only knows what kind of reception Berbatov would receive should he opt for a move to Stamford Bridge, a switch that would be second only to a move to Arsenal'

Chelsea could outbid Manchester United with a £30m offer for Dimitar Berbatov (The Sun). The Bulgarian seems destined to leave White Hart Lane, his agent wants it to happen, and his departure may herald funds for a top-class replacement at White Hart Lane. Even so, I am sure Tottenham fans will be sad to see the striker leave, and they will be even angrier if he ups sticks and joins fierce rivals Chelsea!

God only knows what kind of reception Berbatov would receive should he opt for a move to Stamford Bridge, a switch that would be second only to a move to Arsenal, which in itself wouldn’t be an impossibility. It will be interesting to see how Juande Ramos plays the situation. He may feel that dropping Berbs might be in order should it become abundantly clear he wants to go - but how do you drop a player who just scored four goals in one game?

Arsenal
are toying with the idea of bidding £30m for Real Madrid’s in-form attacker Robinho (various). This one has been doing the rounds for months, but seems even less likely now that 23-year-old Brazilian has hit good form and Bernd Schuster’s side continue to run away with La Liga.

Now we all know that Arsene Wenger doesn’t exactly splash the cash at the best of times, and when his side are top of the pile a move of such grandeur looks fairly pointless. Still, stranger things have happened - Francis Jeffers for instance! However, Robinho would suit the Gunners well and he is clearly an ‘Arsenal’ type of player.
