when we've been up there 3 seasons on the trot will i declare that we've broken into the premiership elite. not before then. too many false dawns at city and other. look at spurs this year!
by Tord's Greeeeep on January 10, 2008
The thing is, Sven is a 4-4-2 man. The 4-5-1 (4-4-1-1) he's been using is a response to the Bojinov injury, and our terrible strikers. Bojinov should be back for the derby. Castillo's just started, and Sven's looking to bring in at least one more striker. We'll all be happy with a UEFA cup spot. Tough game against Everton.
by 8utd on January 10, 2008
It will stay the "TOP FOUR". Its just that City will be in there instead of Liverpool.
by Matt on January 10, 2008
I'm a Toffees fan, so obviously a bit biased, but on the whole (except this weekend) I've been cheering City on and would love to see them beak the hierarchy, if we're not able to do so ourselves. However, while Sven is undeniably a good club manager and they have plenty of moolah to splurge, I can't see it happening this season. As far as I can tell, they've been very lucky with injuries so far this season while the likes of Everton and Spurs have suffered some big losses. A couple of injuries to key players (especially at the back) and they may well struggle. Hope City fans don't take this the wrong way but they remind me of the verton side that broke into CL places couple of years ago - resilient but unspectacular (with exceptions of Petrov and Elano). WE discovered that it wasn't sustainable to carry on like that (esp in Europe) and now play a better, more attacking standard of football. For that reason, I think Everton or Spurs stand more chance of breaking the hold of the Top 4 on a regular basis

1st, City have been excellent this year no doubt but come on its January (half way through the season) lets wait to see where they finish in May. 2nd, One season hardly means 'Top 4' does it now!
by fernando on January 10, 2008

by Blend on January 10, 2008
3/4 season inside the top 6, then we can start suggesting that. We are realistic, top 6 this year will be great! anything more is a bonus.

I would also like to ask, 'where are all thee vast sums of money that city are supposed to have spent? We've spent less money than Sunderland for gods sake!

As an evertonian,i would like any team other than the media's 'big 4' to finish up there, and for a few liverpool fans stating its only jan, they wont be there at the end of the season,im sure there were a lot of liverpool saying that when efc were battling with the top 3.Not saying its gonna happen, but theres nothing worse for liverpool fans to do than eatbthere own words, which, they have had to do numerous times since the prem started.Good luck to all competing for the illustrious cl spots.
by Stuart Mitchell on January 10, 2008
Everton are the team most likely to break into the Top 4, they did it a few seasons ago and are building a great team. Man City have done well, but I feel their form will dip.
by blue boy on January 10, 2008
I hope everton or city more everton because iam a bluenose.I feel sorry for city like us you have jumped up fans in your city talking crap when they win .They are nowhere to be seen when they loose .So now its time for both teams to break in there and kick some arse go on both blues
by truth on January 10, 2008
simple truth is this, over the last 8 yrs or so only once has the so called big 4 been broken into by everton the same season liverpool won the champions league. the only teams challenging for the league are the big 3 with l;iverpool fending of challenges from the rest of the priemiership, not city not everton but who ever has a good season, this is true, its been the pattern for many years, only way youll break into top 4 is if the bigger clubs have a very piss poor campaign, liverpool have having a shocker biut can go 4th with game in hand, kinda tells a story as to just how far liverpool are behind big 3 and how further the rest are behind liverpool and 4th, sorry but this is the truth, its upsetting i know cos youyr having good seasons, but next year youll be mid table year after chasing 4th again, its the pattern. history proves it, ie everton, ipswich, wigan reading spurs newcastle, list goes on and on, just enjoy this season thats all ill say
by PaulB on January 10, 2008
All City fans, yeah right you'll break into the top four!!! I'm an Arsenal fan and I think suggestions of City breaking into the top four are a pipe dream, you'll break into the top four and replace who?
by Thomas on January 10, 2008
Just because they are 4th now does not mean they are good God Everton are European places 3 years now and not once to we get talked about in the same mannor Man City will finish 9th they are a rubbish team Everton will finish 4/5th the longer this dirvle goes on the more City think they are big how can a 'top team' defend the way they did against Liverpool at home!?!?!?! Saturdays match will be Everton winning.
by Ryan on January 10, 2008
I'm an Arsenal fan but I've really loved City this year. I don't think anyone should expect to come 4th ahead of Liverpool, but by all means believe you have a chance and go for it. Liverpool have been somewhat shocking this season and with City taking points so often and sometimes playing great football it would be lovely to see you guys finish 4th. Don't get me wrong, maybe Liverpool would return next year and you'd finish 12th or something, but there's no use thinking like that. Stay positive, get behind the team and keep believing whilst it's still possible. Liverpool are going to drop a lot more points yet this season (they still have to come to the Emirates and get raped by our boys) so you really do have a chance (if not a massive one).
You are a tool. To say City are rubbish and will finish 9th just validate the argument that you are an idiot. I'm a city fan, I don't think we will finish 4th and I like Everton. Parts of my family are toffees. I think we have a good chance to finish 5th or 6th as do Everton. WE are not saying we are a top 4 team, a Derby fan (tha auther) was forming a debate. Like I said in previous posts, we need a few seasons of sustained 4th/5th fniishes before you can form a so called 'big 5'. Personally I think we are very comparible to Everton, except we have players like Elano and Petrov who have the ability to pull a bit of genius out of the bag (Atrteta noted) I also thnik we have a better defense. Either way, hopefully we can both push on and make the league more competative!
by Saxon Paige Vickers-Buckley on January 10, 2008
Still spouting your bile Thomas? You've been predicting City's demise since the West Ham game in August. Your're at best only half a season off. Who here said City are "big" Thomas? You can read? As to setting up against Liverpool, is there a problem? There is if you haven't clue about Sven has to manage up front and the desire NOT to lose that game at all costs...try to think why. Tell me, how did Rafa set up against us in that game? How did he set up against Wigan?
It's really pathetic: yesterday City were accused of plans to buy the title. Today it's that we've spent less than Sunderland...and the point to that is? That Sven can do more with less money and less time than...how many managers? Didn't mean it as a compliment did you? I don't know why so many of you project your own feelings onto us, or why you suffer from displacement, but I think treatment is in order.
by Ric Wallace on January 10, 2008
I am an Evertonian and I think it is well within either Everton's or Man City's reach to finish in the top 4. All that counts is form at the end of the day. If you win enough matches you're there. However there is a psychological effect teams seem to fail to overcome (like Spurs) to finish in the Top 4 simply because the fans of the so called "big" clubs put so much pressure on them and they can't cope. If either team keeps a level head and a steady stream of results they will finish above Liverpool, who let's face, have whipped up a storm in a teacup and now it has got out of hand. Also Thomas on your point above, I don't think necessarily you have a better defence, but currently its your style of football (which is getting you results mind!) is allowing you to concede nothing therefore needing only a very small amount of goals to win a match. I agree with your point on your midfield..but wait till Manny arrives for us- Fernandes and Arteta hopefully outclassing you on the park on Saturday -aft

NO NO NO A MILLION TIMES NO. IHAVE NOT EVEN BOTHERED TO READ THE ARTICLE AS THE HEADLINE CONTAINED ENOUGH NONSENSE FOR ME.
by laz on January 10, 2008
the top 4 will not change this year .. although i think it would be good to see another team in the top 4 but if its gonna be anyone i think evertons gotta have the best chance .. moyes has got an awsome balance going there...remember folks spurs are the only club to make the prem a top 5 by finishing there twice in succesive seasons.. next year the top four will change for sure with everton , villa , spurs , man city , and poosibly portsmouth if harry stays there all have top quality managers that are only going to get better...
by thomas the c-unit on January 10, 2008
to say city are sh**e proves how much of a mug you are...why not leave the football talk to the grown ups. now go and play in your sandpit...
by Paul Wansell on January 10, 2008
There are not many City fans who think we will finish 4th, in fact many I know are still aiming for top half of the table..that is progress after last season. If and I mean if we get a European Spot (Uefa or CL) then the onus will be on Frank and Sven to bring the right men in to make a go of it. But lets wait come May and see. CTID
by Cahillisagod on January 10, 2008
If we beat city on saturday then I think we can overtake the red and get 4th place!!!!!!
by Staffan on January 10, 2008
I´m not so sure if City have been so lucky with injuries this season. Bojinov perhaps the best goalscorer has been injured. Other players that have missed a lot of games are: Bianci, Elano, Johnson. Sven is smart taking Elano of the field when he risks beeing injured.
by yes_yes on January 10, 2008
City most likely will be 4th this season. But If they buy mitfielder(Luka Modric or Quaresma) and 2 fowards(Berbatov, Huntelar or David Villa) they can win premier league this season! their defence is great, Corluka and Richards are top classes! But mitfield and strikers must be better... GO CITY!
by Citizen Babbage on January 10, 2008
There's a big three consisting of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manure. Liverpool have never been one of the big four in my opinion. They're just the best of the rest and a great cup team, but not really capable of cracking the big three in a meaningful way. Everton are extremely well managed and on a steady upward curve. I'd expect them to overtake their red neighbours prem-wise over the next few seasons as the reds can't keep up their level of spending without premiership success. man City... well here's hoping. But a lot of our success depends upon whether Thaksin has his billions unfrozen. If he doesn't we might find ourselves with a bill we can't pay.
by Blend on January 11, 2008
I'm a city fan and I was making a point that we haven't spent as much as people might think, which does prove what a great manager he is. So you anger is poorly directed my friend
by Jordan on January 11, 2008
We now have a great manager. We have some fantastic players such as Corluka, Elano, Richards, Petrov, Dunne, Johnston who would fet in most starting 11's in the world at the moment. We have millions to spend, great fans, a great stadium and we play great football. We are a better team than Liverpool, that game on the 30th Deecember was so poor from City's point of view because our players were tired. Most of them are new to the busy schedual in English football. This season could get in the top 4 with good signings in January, next season who knows. CITY TIL I DIE!
by Rafa's Goatee on January 11, 2008
This is a poorly researched piece of writing. To play Vassell as a lonbe striker at home- albeit against one of the top 4 - shows a real lack of ambition. It is this that means they are UEFA cup candidates for 08/09 at best
by liverpoolfc on January 11, 2008
to say city are a better team than liverpool is the funniest thing i heard in years. when was last time you challenged fo anything oh yes championship title, glory glory man city. you will always live in the shadow of you red neighbours both manchester and liverpool
by Shane Robinson on January 11, 2008
Ha ha ha, what do you mean 'still stationed in the Champions Leage places'? They weren't there up until just ovr a week ago. Love these clubs that win nothing, deluded fans losing oxygen to their brains and getting carried away. 8utd, I'm looking at you. Man City are doing well and Sven has done a great job but a lot has gone your way also. You were battered at home by us and the difference in quality was alarming. Don't fool yourselves into thinking a good half season and clinging on in some games against the bigger teams makes you top 4! United battered you too but fair play, you took all 3 points. Top 54 sides do not get continuosly outclassed. Well done against Chelsea by the way, 6-0 is a top 4 sides result alright.

Was commending you on that comment, clearly my comment did not get printed! Anyway, well done for an unbiased and well thought out bit
by Frank on January 11, 2008
These Liverpool fans such as liverpool fc are so biased. You got battered by redding, deserved to get beat of derby, drew against wigan. These are all relegatin candidates. Liverpool are poor at best. 6th is my prediction for Liverpool this season. Very boring team to watch.
by Ashley on January 12, 2008
Ofcourse city will finish in the top 4, what do u expect, we will beat the **** out of liverpool to get that top 4 finish.
by Andy on January 13, 2008
It's just obvious that this year it won't contain LFC, unless they appeal to EUFA.
