Arsene Wenger is a manager who likes to keep his transfer business close to his chest. And it would seem that the current transfer window is no different.
There's very little evidence coming from the Emirates indicating that new recruits will be heading Arsenal's way, bar a few murmurings and the inevitable wild rumours. However, we know this may be a smokescreen.
In the past Wenger has often stated that he will not be looking for players, and then a few days later, some seldom heard of player walks into Asburton Grove and seemingly fits into the Gunners' slick brand of football. It is clear that Wenger does not buy players simply to fill a gap or to cover injuries, unlike their big spending west London rivals.
He will not, for instance, buy Olof Mellberg from Aston Villa, which has been a constant item on the rumour mill. More likely, he will persuade the ambitious Lassana Diarra to stay and transform him into the world-beater he has the potential to be.
He could certainly use the versatile Frenchman as a right back and move Bacary Sagna to the centre, whilst Kolo Toure is away. This seems to be a popular choice amongst Arsenal fans that I've spoken to, who see Phillipe Senderos and Gilberto as unreliable central defensive options.
If there is a position Wenger will strengthen it is most likely to be the left or right wing. Alexandr Hleb was terrific before his injury in December, but has not quite hit that form since, and the enigma that is Tomas Rosicky continues to frusstrate and amaze many fans at the Emirates.
Rosicky simply has not produced his international form consistently for his club and has been very injury prone. With this in mind, and the added problem of Emmanuel Eboue's absence, Wenger may well bring in a wide man.
Dimitrov, who impressed on trial before Christmas, looks the most likely arrival, but judging by Wenger's past dealings, who would put it past him to uncover another gem from obscurity.

This is the opportunity for one of the younger player's (i.e.,Randall and Traore, as alternatives for Walcott, if no transfer activity occurs) to shine. I think Sagna/Hoyte in central defence is good, a player with pace is required. Diarra if he stays in the right defence, if not then Hoyte. Most important Arsenal does need a proper mid-field winger (eventually Vela, if no transfer activity occurs), that can play on both sides and can score goals.

Arsenal has so much money ad i don't get why Mr.Wenger buys a player or two coz more experienced players will be needed later as da league progresses.

Poor old deluded arsenal supporters. An English club from SOUTH London plying its trade in NORTH London, the capital of ENGLAND, playing 90% of its games without an ENGLISH player!!!!!

eggs like paul and bob (see their comments) are the main reason why english football will forever be stranded up alex fergusons backside and doomed to constant failure. if we don't stop worshipping money and the people who spend it then we'll never get past our dreadful lack of ambition. learn from wenger and arsenal - the greatest defence against the vile hoardes...
