Next to liverpooh fans, the looney toons have to be the prem's most deluded set of supporters. I mean, you haven't won anything for 40 years and yet you want instant success!!! Forget keegan, forget shearer, forget sparky what you need is a fat rafa/houllier combo. Tweo for the price of one and they'll guarantee you a CL cup!!!!!

Can any of you tossers come up with something original about NUFC. Time and time again it's the same old story. Newcastle supporters demand this and that. They never give the manager enough time blah blah. Play a different tune ffs! It's amazing how many fans keep saying we are not a big club. So how come everyone has got an opinion on us. You don't try to knock small clubs down do you? Allardyce was not in Ashley's plans from the start. He was given a chance and blew it. He never put a team out that even looked like they wanted to win. He either went for damage limitation or contain the oposition. Even against teams at the bottom of the division he saw them as a big threat that he played negative. Well I'm sorry for being demanding, but if I don't have a right to watch my local team compete with other teams then I won't put anymore money into the club. You's lot worry about your own team and we'll worry about our's.

Well said Chris. I'm also sick of all this "You're not a big club crap". Other than the so called big 4 we are the only club to have been in the Champions League more than once.

Unfortunately, I think we may have no choice but to go for people who are not in a post (Keegan and Shearer) at the moment. Seriously, would anyone decent move from their existing job to us Mags? They see it as a kiss off deatrh for their careers. I do not think we have any credibility anymore.

Newcastle are a big club – of that there is no doubt. They are not a successful club – of that there is no doubt. Kevin Keegan and Bobby Robson both brought an element of stability and “moderate success” to the club. The thing that Newcastle fans find so frustrating is the fact that with 52,000 attending St James Park for every home game (and the associated income from merchandise etc) we are a big club in size, but we are not performing in an appropriate manner for a club of this size. What can we do? I think we should treat Mike Ashley as a clean sheet and the sacking of Big Sam as the final part of this clean sheet. I fully understand the frustration of fans, and I can not see a way forward, but we need to trust in our cuddly billionaire and give him a chance. I will eat my own boxer shorts if Ashley does not do a better job than Freddy S. So come on Ashley, give us a manager/team we can get behind and come on Toon Army give the man a chance and get behind the team!

One bit of this article that annoys me intensely and appears just about everywhere in the media is this unfounded statement that "the Toon Army would give their last Guinness" for Shearer. Since when? Yes, we all see the fairytale side to such an appointment, but survey after survey has put Big Al towards the bottom of the fan's preference list. It pains me to point it out, but Jose is the number 1 choice according to most polls. Selling papers again, all of it.

It's rubbish to say Shearer isn't the first choice because everyone knows he is,it's just the fear that the poison chalice theory may destroy him too. There has to be only one choice and that is the Keegan/Shearer combo.....
