You are absolutely right dude! I think below 20. 15-16 is acceptable for a defender or a holding midfielder also. As well as 14-18 for midfielders, 19-20 for strikers. But Anelka's 39 and Tevez's 32 is unacceptable I think.... I fancy when would a GK pick the no. 9 or 10 numbers.

you really answered your own question there. Ronaldo is number 99 because the number 9 is already taken at milan by Inzaghi and ronaldo prefers the number 9 shirt but since it is unavailable, he took the 99 shirt.

Currently at Anfield we dont even have a player occupying the no's 1 or 2. And what better recipients than Pepe Reina and Steve Finnan?
by James on January 16, 2008
If it helps the players attitude then give them the number, I'd have 69!! or even 68 and I'd give 1 back later!!! hahaha

Defoes hair does my nut in! Tevez and that pink dummy, first time okay its for his kid but to do it a week later, where s the sense! my third and final 'pet hate in football' has to be gingers, Scholesy etc, they let the sport down with their piss stench and bright hair that hurts my eyes, they should be banned!

My pet peeve, that there isn't a TOTAL BAN on players surrounding and menacing referees over every minor or major decision. It's bullying and it's aided by hissing crowds wanting a decision changed. This doesn't happen to referees in Rugby, where more manly players bite the bullet, and get things right BY POWERFUL EFFORT TO OVERCOME POOR REFEREEING DECISIONS. I think bullying of refs should be outlawed in football and cards all round for those who do it.

Players who carry or kick the ball away after the ref has indicated a free kick or a throw only to bring it back after he has moved a distance with it i know it tactical but wront it is time asting and demoralises in why not punish them it is common in almost all clubs and

tevez is still technically on loan so thats why he has no 32
by wazza on January 16, 2008
anyone who dives should be punished after the match if it is missed by the ref. give them a ban and it will soon stop

I can tolerate refs making honest mistakes, but too many of them are dishonest, both in the descisions they make on the pitch and in refusing to admit afterwards that they got it wrong. Refereeing in the Everton v Liverpool match earlier in the season was a disgrace and the mark Clattenberg can't claim his string of bizare descions were honest mistakes - he had obviously taken a back-hander. On many other ocassions refs have not been prepared to admint a mistake after the match when replays show they were wrong. We should accept they will get descisions wrong based on one "live" viewing, but if they give a red card that is clearly wrong, why can't they be big enough to ask the FA to recind the player's ban? No wonder so many players and fans react to their dodgy descisions!

Everton.
No i don't have a pet hat.

Phil Dowd. I agree with Al on this one (a gooner!? surely not!) Being a referee myself, I can nearly always sympathise with hard reffing decisions. But quite how this inept waste of space manages to make the wrong decision over and over again really does escape me. For example, when he gave Keane a straight red for...(what was it exactly? Slightly touching some Brummie's knee with his toe?) And when Spurs tried to appeal, he just refused to concede, in the face of OVERWHELMING evidence, that he was wrong. His head should be rolling round Soho.

I cant back this up with evidence or anything as 'inconvienient' like that, but perhaps in the same way that Sol Cambell at Arsenal, and Becks at Real(?) and LA Galaxy have taken the number 23 shirt due to its links with Michael Jordan and his greatness blah blah blah. perhaps the number 99 is linked with Wayne Gretisky and Ice Hockey as he was a great goal scorer in that sport. Apart from the way that racism is still tolerated on this board (I'm not ginger but gingerism IS racism), my pet hate in football is that the public spend far more time complaining about divers than they do about brutal tackles and that refs let players get away with it.
by Tom on January 16, 2008
Being ginger is not a race...it is a hair colour =S blonde's get stick all the time...so should everyone (including gingers) get a grip.

Chelsea and Man U players constantly surrounding refs even when he has awarded a blatent foul. Mikel's recent bad tackle anyone?? John Terry appears to be the worst culprit and i don't like it when my man Bellamy does it either. Has anyone seen a ref change his mind?? Secondly - Gutless England managers who swear that Fat Frank and Stevie G can both play in midfield in a 442, no effing way!! Just pick one (preferably SG) as a playmaker/goal scorer and pick a holding medfielder. IS IT THAT EFFING HARD!?!?!
People putting stupid posts on sites. R U DUM?? I think you'll find this piece was put together reasonably well until you infected it with your filthy ASBO mouth. Get some english lessons.
