why not wait and see, Keegan had been away from the game for 8 years when he returned the first time as manager, to my knowlege the game is still played with a round ball, and between two teams of elevenish players. Keegan will return toplaying the game on the ground (unlike BSA) and Mr Ashley, he owns our club, no debt, no foreign investors, just him, now which clubs would like to be able to say that ? just wait and see mate, and oh yes..the game is still won by scoring more golas than the oposition

Why are so many people on website blogs anti-Newcastle??? hes managed ONE game, that it, and already idiots are writing him off, like the idiots who ring up to 606, why do no intelligent people ever get on that show??? I reckon you are one of those arent you!?!?

You make an interesting and well considered point. This is definitely one possible future, but I have to agree with Paul's (Butt Out) comments. You pre-suppose a failure from KK, with no more valid basis than that which drives so much optimism amongst the newcastle fans. Newcastle fans desire attacking football with the ball to feet. Why should this tactic not be successful. It has served as the basis of the majority of success for the best teams in this country? It also require leadership and I defy anyone to doubt that KK is a powerful leader who can and does bring out the best of his players. He will undoubtedly reinstate the belief and pride of the club within the team. So that leaves the players. I don't believe that either Owen or Martins were happy playing long ball tactics and not only are they eminently capable of playing KK style, but desire that approach. Milner, Duff, Emre - they are also more capable and desirous of this style of play. No-one thinks this will be easy or quick to fix, but I

Its amazing how many rubbish articles have been written about Newcastle during the last few weeks (both for and against KK). This one probably sits some place in the middle. I dont blame the fans for being optimistic after watching some of the most boring football ever under BSA. Give Keegan a chance!

It remains incredible to me that people who don't watch Newcastle United week in week out think they know better than the fans who do. Yet more ill-informed rubbish written by morons.

I am tired - of what you may ask? Of the doom mongers that have surrounded Newcastle Utd for the last 50 years or so. We cannot do right for doing wrong as far as these pretentious pundits are concerned. They just want to see us fail, so what that KK has been away from the game for 3 yrs, he is still KK. I am not expecting any miracles and I doubt if any of the geordie faithful expect miracles either, it is the media and the jealous from other clubs who are saying we do. On the 'Sunday Supplement' on Sky yesterday their wasn't one positive comment, all waiting for KK to fail. They claim we expected to beat Bolton 7-0 on Saturday - who did? All we want is to see entertaining football and win or lose we can go back to work with our heads held high saying at least we gave it our best shot, something we have been unable to do since Bobby had control. So go away and stop the sniping let KK get on and do the job he wants to do. It cannot be worse than watching the football BSA served up. I drive, 2.5 hrs to see my

I am amazed at the amount of interest that the appointment of Kevin Keegan has generated by people who do not care a jot about Newcastle United. The opinions vary from mocking and assertion that the club and the appointment of Keegan will “fail” to the vitreous hatred of Newcastle and supporters of the club. I can not understand why those who find Newcastle such a joke or who hate them so much would take the time to record and publish their thoughts. The fact is that Newcastle is a club with a big attendance and supporter base, many of the supporters of the club are fanatical (although not all) and these supporters would like to see a particular type of football and put up a reasonable show in the league/cup competitions. The club has a huge support and a large income and is owned by a billionaire. I can not see any reason why it is unrealistic for the owner and the fans to hope for “better” than the football that was served up under previous managers. The answer to my initial question is that I car

Ok Saturday was a dissappointment - It was allways going to be after all of the hysteria whipped up by, Sky Sports(mainly)and the rest of the national media But let me tell you that every right thinking Geordie knows the task ahead and equally have faith in Kevin Keegan to reproduce level of success(whatever that may be) Now that it's dropped of the media radar and all of the southern journos have crawled back under their slimey stones, the club as a whole can now get on with the real job of putting us back where we feel we belong - competing with the elite of English football I was astounded by the hysteria last week and embarassed by the usual gang of 'slackjaws' that gather outside the ground on occasions such as this, not to mention the drunks in Shearers' bar. The media can now re- focus on the so called 'top four' until the day we rise up and bite them on their collective a***s

"A belief that only a Geordie can give Newcastle the success and the style of football they feel they deserve led to Sam Allardyce’s doom and Keegan’s appointment" Keegan's not a geordie mate.. His dad is however, dig deeper and you might find a real story!

Along with several million true geordies I cant beleive the amount of dribble spewed forth by so called sports commentators. The fact that, as you rightly say, a self-made multi-billionaire has made the best appointment for NUFC has met with dissaproval form so many "southern" corners tells me one thing. You're all running scared!. Let the man get his cooat off before you dare to critisce his management skill. Let him bring his own players in before you dare challenge his effect. Let him show us his tactics before you call him a failure. TYhe man is right for the job and you cant say a good word about him. Get a life, you must be a secret mackem!!!

Thanks for the comments - all very interesting. For your information I am not actually a fan of any team in the Premiership (certainly not Sunderland) so have no particular axe to grind with Newcastle. I was happy to hear that Keegan was back as he will no doubt be highly entertaining. What I was illustrating was that to me the decision to appoint is not what it seems and that certain sections of support should be a little bit more alive to this possibility.
